Cavs get:

C Ben Wallace

F Wally Szczerbiak

F Joe Smith

G Delonte West

2nd Round Pick in '09 from Bulls

Bulls get:

G Larry Hughes

F Drew Gooden

F Cedric Simmons

G Shannon Brown

Sonics get:

G Adrian Griffin

F Ira Newble

F Donyell Marshall

It looks like the Cavs may have the pieces they needed to take a run at the NBA title. But from what Wallace did with the Bulls, I don't think he will be enough to put the Cavs over the top. His defensive presence has been declining, and he can't be counted on for any offense.

The Bulls will be picking up some nice players, and might be able to sneak into the Eastern Conference playoffs. That shows how weak the conference is, they are 11 games under .500 but only 2 games out of the final spot. It is also nice to see Shannon Brown return home, he went to basketball powerhouse Proviso East in Maywood, IL.

What were the Sonics thinking?

Clay Bennett is trying to nuke a city that has given great support to its team for 40 years. And for some reason, David Stern is letting it happen, if not encouraging it it. What the NBA gets out of killing Seattle as a market is beyond me. Not only is Seattle in top 25 of cities by population, Washington State is actually enjoying a growing economy, and Seattle attracts mostly young, mostly educated young professionals without kids who have lots of disposable income. Yep, no reason to cultivate that market...

So far this year, Wallace is averaging 8 rebounds, 1.5 blocks, and 5 points. Not exactly stats that add up to $60 million dollars if you ask me. In fact, Ilgauskus has better numbers in those three categories this year.

Gooden also adds to the Bulls former Final Four players, they could start an entire lineup of leaders from Final Four teams now.

And this shows that the Sonics are closing down in Seattle. This was a bad trade for them.

Competing in the West would be a useless venture for the Sonics at this point. They did however dump more salary and that's going to help the rebuilding process. Between this and the Spurs trade they have 13 picks in the next three drafts as well as three expiring contracts. They weren't competitive this year anyway, I think it was a decent move for the future.

And it seems, more and more, that Drew Gooden is turning into the present-day Nick Anderson. Productive guy...just kept getting traded every freakin' where.

Much like Joe Smith.

AND Wally Szczerbiak.

(Concern about Szczerbiak: not that I follow the NBA all that close these days, but wasn't one of the knocks on Wally, at least in Minnesota, is that he could be something of a ballhog? Just wondering, if that still holds true, if he'll have enough sense to defer to Bron-Bron, since, you know, Cleveland IS HIS team and all...)

And...it looks like Benny will have no issues about wearing whatever headband he chooses while inside Cavalier threads.

And oh by the way...R.I.P. NBA basketball in Seattle. (Just sending out my condolences in advance...it really is sad to see what's going on up there in the Pacific Northwest.)

*Disclaimer: I am not an authoritative expert on stuff...I just do a lot of reading and research and keep in close connect with a bunch of people who are authoritative experts on stuff. 😁

Damn, I was a huge Ben Wallace fan and I think that was a huge mistake giving up on him already. I know he's not young, but one bad season doesn't mean he's done for.

I don't get it, why are the Bulls always looking to trade their team away? Ben Wallace is now gone, and Ben Gordon was in rumors as well as Luol Deng.

Why get rid of young good players and one veteran center? I honestly don't like it or agree with it.

Watch for Gooden to make something happen.

He's very underrated, IMO.

He's good at offensive rebounding, something that every team needs.

And lets just hope Larry Hughes is a little better there than he was here.

Larry has had the occasional breakout game (i.e: 40 points last week) but he's just so inconsistent that nobody can call him an over-average player anymore.

Well, Wallace has gotta be happy with this "Homecoming" to the Cavs. He played his first two years of college ball at Cuyahoga Community College, which I believe is in Cleveland.

I don't see why everyone is so giddy over this trade... all that happened was a bunch of second-rate players getting exchanged ofr eachother or dumped alltogether. In my opinion, this leaves the Cavs no better than 48 hours ago...

+

Getting Rasberry Face to fill in while D-Gib is out.

A decent bench player in Smith.

_

Adding Ben Wallace, in addition to Sanjaya... errr.... Varejo, the only worse offensive front court was Wallace/Noah

They give up Larry Hughes, a functional baller, for a shell in Wally. Sure he can still shoot, but what else can he do besides that... at least Hughes could make his own shot every once in a while...

Plus, they give up Gooden...

Just a reshuffling of the cards....

According to the Cavs roster page, Ben Wallace will wear #4, Szczerbiak #10, West #13, and Smith #32.

Will they be eligible for tonight's game?

From what I'm hearing on ESPN, no.

Yea on Cavs.com it kinda explains the situation. They signed a couple NBADL guys (ten day contract probably) so that they'd be eligible for tonights game.

So they're prettyy much gonna have a mediocre makeshift starting lineup tonight.

Now there's something I never knew.

Good ol' Tri-C.

And yes that is in the Cleveland area.

My mom actually went there a few years.
