The LATEST LA NFL Stadium Project

First, I apologize to ANYONE whose NFL team is having new stadium issues and might be a relocation candidate. Having seen TWO count 'em NFL teams leave The Merry Ol' Land Of La, I know too well what it's like to NOT have ones' own NFL team to love and to root for. This Ed Roski project started last October '07 but has been under cover since then. I'd feared the current loan crisis would drive the NFL stadium price up further, even beyond astronomic. But JUST a moment ago I happened on this LA Times article about Mr. Roski's NFL project formal announcement today. Check out the adjoining article, his stadium web site's apparently been launched which I MUST check out myself NOW.

Be cool, Mr. Fab . . . breathe in . . . let it out . . . this humongous minimum security insane asylum I call home is just TOO big NOT to have at least ONE NFL team. Amidst my current adrenaline rush, I seriously hope YOUR NFL team doesn't have stadium issues. Who knows, the League might not be able to pass up any potential expansion $ windfall. For now, I'm gonna wallow in that stadium project roll out website. A seat anywhere between the 20 yard lines, that's ALL I want! B)

Nothing personal, but L.A. doesn't deserve a team at this point. The NFL has tried and tried to make the rebirth of Los Angeles a reality, and has been met with apathy at every turn minus a few egomaniac billionaires who want to join the boys club. The L.A. I've seen is more interested in TMZ-style star gossip. "Sports are boring, unless we can be seen on TV. The Super Bowl is stupid but the parties are awesome..."

The NFL did not want the newest team to be the Houston Texans. Absolutely not. They wanted Los Angeles, the second most populated megalopolis in the country, and their market share to re-join the club. L.A. yawned. Houston (whom I am on record for despising) said we're still here, and the NFL bit. Houston never should have lost the Oilers. The Houston Texans in NFL is almost justice. At least this fanbase gives a :censored: about the product offered.

Not hating, just telling the truth.......

I guess perception IS reality. You'd have to live here to know how Cali & LA sports fans are. They ARE notorious "Love our team, win or tie" front runners. They DO arrive late & leave early but there ARE way too many people in one place here whose pockets the NFL could choose to pick again. It's been said they're not the type of league to leave THAT much money on the table, as it were. LA sports fans also turn out in HUGE numbers for a wide range of sports events. As well, local politics are SO self-interest f^@ked up they've managed to kill more than one decent stadium project when it was more affordable. As a "quality of life" issue, there IS something to be said for having other things to do than to be mesmerized by overpaid pampered jocks being treated like gods. Amidst all that there ARE people like myself here I'd say who really like football & consider the NFL the pinacle. Wasn't the last Super Bowl a pretty good example about what the game's all about, regardless of what particular team anyone follows? After all, you know what it's said opinions are like, and I know I'M one! ;)

Well, the Angels draw well now, College footbal draws well. Will it translate to the NFL? If it's going to be an expansion team, they are going to be bad. I don't see the fans sticking it out. The luster will wear off very quickly, once everyone sees the new toy. The NFL will get their money, why would they care right now about the potential problems in the future?

As far as the stadium goes: I can not STAND the wall (and I mean WALL) of luxery Boxes on the one sideline. It ruins the look. Yeah, it's a nice stadium and a nice complex. This is what the NFL wants to see, be it in LA or any other city.

Well luxury boxes are where the money is. Doesn't Ford Field in Detroit do something similar to this?

Being from So Cal, I remember when the Rams & Raiders made their exodus from LA. I remember when everyone was in a panic about how we don't have a team anymore. Now some 10 + years later, I think many Angelinos (and those in the surrounding areas) have basically come to terms with the fact that the NFL will more than likely never be back, and that any "talks" of a new team are just that...talks.

...and for the most part, I think they are cool with that.

After watching 2 mediocre teams hog up the local market, we were given the chance to see the best games. In the early '90s when the Niners and Cowboys were at the tops of their games, we got the Rams/Lions or Rams/Bucs or Raiders/Patriots (you get my point). Now, we usually get to see the top games in the country and I am truly happy with that (even if my Niners are only on TV once or twice).

Besides, despite all the nonsense and red tape, LA has a football team: USC.

I thought Rams / Raiders games were blacked out in LA. Wouldn't you have gotten the national games?

Sometimes. It also depended on if the Rams/Raiders were on the road that week. If so, there was a 95% chance that we got the game.

When they were "home", a good majority of Raider games would be televised (as is the case today). The Rams would get on every so often, mostly when the Niners were in town.

I'm looking at the images posted on the stadium's web site. It is pretty impressive, but like most everyone else here in the L.A. area, I'm taking the "I'll believe when it happens" approach. The potential site is about 30-35 miles east of downtown Los Angeles, and if anything, I just wish it was much closer to the city, even within the city limits. I don't know how much chance of this project being a reality.

The NFL WILL be back in LA. With the 10+ million in the area, there is no reason one team can't get 60K+ into the stands. The networks want the metropolis represented as well. It's just a matter of time. It's a ridiculous notion that LA doesn't deserve a team. After all, it's not like they've had repeated failures like DC had with baseball. If a team does fail in LA, it won't be because of fans. It will be because of a failure by the league to cater to the fanbase.

There was another article I just read in the L.A. Times today, that the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors (the equivalent of mayors, but on a county level) are trying to block a proposal to the State from the City of Industry to use tax dollars (about more $800 million) to help subsidize the stadium project, although there's the other stuff describing Roski putting up his own money.

The politicians in both the City and County of Los Angeles, and to a lesser extent, the state of California, have been the biggest roadblocks of us getting a team back, because they don't want taxpayer money being used, and also firmly because the local government wants to be the ones calling shots, and have the NFL dictate the situation.

Never said I hated LA, I just don't think the NFL is viable there right now. Take that personally if you want. It's not intended that way.

The League should lift the blackout rules for all the teams before they think about going back to LA, and let us, the fans, control the games with our remotes.

And another thing, If the Chargers move to LA, I'd still root for them, and that way, the NFL won't need another ambassador to Southern California.
