Red Sox To Wear Green On Friday

This couldn't work in a lot of places, but it is perfect for Boston. I can't say anything about most cities, but I know NYC would never see this happen (city has a very divided fan base, plus the Mets are always honoring the Knicks :D ) and in smaller cities like Denver (for example) I don't thnik the fan base is as frantic about supporting their teams. You probably have to be from New England to know where I am coming from, but trust me, this makes sense and probably wouldn't in most cities.

In Minneapolis-St.Paul, there's a lot of overlap between Wild and Twins fans, so if either of those teams won a championship, we might see something like this.

NEVER would you see a Wild/Timberwolves overlap, thing. Not much love between the fanbases.

I think it's a cool idea. One day we might find out if the Cavaliers/Browns/Tribe would do this. I say "Yes".

Now... I know "How" they get the shamrock (or sox logo for that matter) in the grass. It's pushing the grass in a direction. I just don't get why or how it's so clean? Why are there no tire tracks or even foot prints? Up close is it more "blotchy"?

They didn't even wear the "special" gold-trimmed 2004 World Series championship jerseys for anything other than the 2005 home opener pregame, did they? And those were for a title they actually won.

Haven't all the teams that won since then done the same thing? I know the Cardinals did...did the White Sox do it or the Red Sox again? I can't remember.

I think that the White Sox wore a World Series Champs patch on their hat and/or jerseys. But did the Cardinals wear the gold-trimmed uniforms in their home opener? I think the point that was being made was that the Red Sox didn't even wear the uniforms to commemorate their own championship in an actual game, but they are wearing green for another team's championship in a game.

Hmmm...maybe not. I know you could buy authentics and I guess I just assumed they were worn.

They were. In fact they wore them for the entire series.

It's nice to see the Red Sox go all-out and pay tribute to the Celtics with those cheap looking BPs.

Hell, did the Sox even bother to put names on the back of them?

EDIT: Nevermind, they were playing at Fenway.

None of the current batting jerseys have names on them. These were made for St. Patrick's Day, but for some reason not worn.

The green jerseys were made (and sold for) for several teams, problem was, the supplier didn't get the materials to Majestic in time for them to manufacture and deliver them to the teams in time for St. pattys day.

Ya, Clevelanders are such rabid fans of all three of there teams that if one of them one a championship (someday?) that the other teams would do something to honor them. It even extends a little further; back in 2003 the Indians honored the Buckeyes for their NCAA championship. I don't think/know if they wore anything special for them but fan support spills over to all the other teams in Ohio.

The uniforms looked silly. The letters and numbers outlined in navy, the red pant stripe on the leg.

I went to the game with some Sox fans and even they thought the whole thing was a bit kitschy. A good friend (Who I share my Sox, Celtics and Pats tickets with) described the owners of the Boston sports teams elitist frat boys in a city suffering from an identity crisis.

Boston's lost a bit of its identity lately as many of our major corporations have been bought out (Reebok, Gillette, Hancock, Putnam) by larger entities not located in Boston, and the .com bubble has had a negative impact on the city. Combine that with the real estate slump, the interneciene racial, ethnic and other struggles this city faces on a daily basis, the city needs something to rally around. The success of Boston's sports teams has given people a reason to be proud of the city.
