WNBA Fight night in Detroit

How sad is that the only reason they will be talking about the WNBA at any length tonight is a cat fight. I was watching with my daughter as LA and Detroit finished up their game when Candace Parker went thugette on one of Bill Laimbeer's players. Both of them excalated the issue but the most classless thing was that after Parker chucked the non household name girl down, she landed a couple blows after scoring another takedown at mid court. No triangle choke or submission so we won't have a winner for this round. So how many games do you suspend a women's player for? Especiallyy the go.den child who really had the biggest part in the whole ting. Rick Mahorn got tossed after he accidently knocked over Lisa Leslie (who missed connecting with his chin) while clearing the pile then had like three chicks running up his six. Poor guy. LOL. My daughter was kinda like, what's going on here? She was more worried about Cheryl Ford who is probavbly done for the year with a knee injury. She had to get wheeled off after playing peacemaker and the previously injured knee buckled on her.

From that video, Parker needs to be suspended for the rest of the year. There is no excuse for what she did and I'm tired of self-centered athletes doing something that is 100% completely wrong and then saying the obligitory "sorry" having someone write them a statement that they read to the press and then only get a slap on the wrist. If it was up to me Parker should be banned and everyone else involved in that fight should be suspended for the rest of the year. I don't care if teams have to forfeit the rest of the season. These leagues need to punish childish behavior with stern punishment and when I say suspend, I mean they aren't allowed to play in any other league period.

Would have meant a lot more had Joey Styles been posting that and not you.

Well, now we know why the Red Wings suck at fighting.

They haven't learned yet how to play the Palace (not like they could, I don't think there's a rink there...)

Detroit Vipers.

Also, smarmy comment about women's basketball and fighting like girls.

Two things that are incredibly wrong with that statement. First off, I can't necessarily say that Candice Parker is 100% to blame on this one. From the look of the video she definitely took it too far, but truth of the matter is that both women were to blame. And secondly, BANNING Parker, or even suspending her for the rest of the season would be akin to the NBA banning Michael Jordan in his rookie season. Candice Parker may still be a rookie, but she's the face of the WNBA. No, I take that back, she IS the WNBA. She is arguably the best female basketball player to EVER play in the college ranks or the WNBA, hands down. She is going to be a big factor in the WNBA's potential future success. Banning her, or even suspending her the remainder of the season would be suicide for that league.

Uhh...I was with you until that part. Cheryl Miller, Lisa Leslie, Jakie Stiles, Sheryl Swoopes and Chamique Holdsclaw would all like to have words with you.

Fighting in hockey is not only okay, but celebrated. Hell, there are guys who earn roster spots exclusively to be the team's designated knock-a-mother-:censored:er-out-er. While fighting in baseball meets with minor suspensions, it is still accepted as part of the game. Yet if you play basketball, you'd better not fight...eventhough your game is every bit as physical as hockey.

Why is it that people only bring up "the kids" when it's basketball?

Now, with that said, none of these bitches can fight. :P

Maybe thats a bit over the top, but thats why I tossed in the ever popular "arguably" out clause :P (Though I should've said POTENTIALLY for her WNBA situation, my bad) But her leading Tennessee to back to back titles the way she did, and considering all the hype she gets, she's set up to be the biggest thing the WNBA has ever seen. Now of course who knows, potential can't cash checks and injuries could happen, but point is she's currently set up to be not only the next big thing, but the biggest thing ever. When it's all said and done Miller, Swoopes, Holdsquaw, Stiles, Leslie, and a ton of really talented players could be looking up at Parker.

Either way though, point still holds that it'd be the worst business move imaginable to ban Parker.

I think the player in white should take most of the blame. Excessively blocking-out (what on earth was that?), then charging towards Candace Parker? Words were probably exchanged but I have no clue why Parker should get the blame while it seems the other player started it all, and pretty much extended it. I have a strong feeling that the player in white intentionally dared Parker to retaliate and impact her reputation in the league. Everyone knows Parker is a star, I wouldn't be surprised if the gutless player in white purposely challenged the league's icon to cross the line.

All in all, a complete joke of an event for all parties involved.

I think I would have been upset with the toss. The first was kind of a flop/ toss but when she closed the distance at mid court, Parjer had options. Neither is off teh hook IMO. I think the most we'll see is 5 games because I think they only play like 32-34 regular season games and they have been playing Parker up in the media. They crack me up because they haffve so much hype when players go to the draft that they have to keep working it in the media. Kinda how now they are covering the summer league when all it is are scrimmages. The league kinda has to be happy because they may get a few curious onlookers trying to tune in to see what will happen next but they have to start promoting the product better. Right now I think they are even with the Arena Football League.

Basketball is certainly extremely physical, but you don't get the blind-side checks into the boards face first (among other things) so I'd give the physical edge to hockey (though they do get actual protective equipment, so maybe it is closer than I thought) but either way, your point is valid, and one that I've attempted to make before. Just because it's always been that way (in hockey) doesn't make it right.
