MLB 2009 Predictions

AL East

1. New York Yankees

2. Tampa Bay Rays

3. Boston Red Sox

4. Toronto Blue Jays

5. Baltimore Orioles

-As much as i hated to do this, i had to put the Yankees on top in this division, with the addition of Texiera, Sabathia, and Burnett (which has been somewhat overlooked a little bit) I honestly don't see any team being able to beat them in this division--I pray I'm wrong. I deliberated a bit with the Red Sox and Rays, i think this will flip-flop a lot through the season, but i had to give it to last years division champs, especially with the addition of Burrell, but the Red Sox could take the second spot just as easily as the Rays could.

AL Central

1. Cleveland Indians

2. Minnesota Twins

3. Chicago White Sox

4. Detroit Tigers

5. Kansas City Royals

-This for me is the one division that is a little questionable, the White Sox and the Twins tied for first place last year, I put Cleveland in first because they have been poised to breakthrough for years and i finally think this is the year they will do just that. The Tigers are too talented to stay at the bottom, they got off to a horrendous start last year but started playing better baseball towards the end of the year. I think the Twins are the biggest question mark in this division, they have talent, a good manager, and a deep team, so we'll see if that all equates to a successful season. I could honestly see the game differential between the first place and fourth place team be 5 games or less in this division.

AL West

1. Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim

2. Oakland A's

3. Texas Rangers

4. Seattle Mariners

-This was the easiest division for me to pick, i believe the Angels will run away with this division again. Even with the loss of Texiera and Rodriquez, i just dont see any teams that can keep pace with them. The A's are young and talented but still very raw, they surprised a lot of people last year with how competitive they were until they had a fire sale midseason and traded there older players for a bag of potatoes and a sheet of ShamWOWs. The Rangers and Mariners are a mess, i just dont see them being competitive for at least a few more years down the road.

NL East

1. New York Mets

2. Philadelphia Phillies

3. Atlanta Braves

4. Florida Marlins

5. Washington Nationals

-I know i'm gonna catch a lot of flak for this for putting the Mets; the proverbial choke artists, at the top, but i believe there bullpen got immensely better than last year and considering they were only 3 games out of first place, i know the bullpen blew more than 3 wins for them. The Phillies also lost Burell, dont worry, i still think the Mets will choke in the playoffs, but at least this year they'll get a chance to get there :P, I think the braves are about a year or two from being competitive again. I like the Marlins, they just arent very good and its gonna take a few years of rebuilding to get them back to competitiveness, and the Nationals...well...they're the Nationals...

NL Central

1. Chicago Cubs

2. St Louis Cardinals

3. Houston Astros

4. Milwaukee Brewers

5. Cincinnati Reds

6. Pittsburgh Pirates

-I believe the Cubs will take this division again...and do nothing with the playoff birth :P, with the Cardinals and Astros on their tail for most of the year. I was one of those people rooting for the Brewers last year, but lets be honest, the biggest reason they made the playoffs was Sabathia, and with rumblings they might even trade Fielder, i dont see them repeating the feel good story this year. The Reds and Pirates just arent very good baseball teams. Both teams have some talented players, but both teams are in shambles and are gonna need a miracle to make them relevant in there division again.

NL West

1. LA Dodgers

2. Arizona D-Backs

3. San Francisco Giants

4. Colorado Rockies

5. San Diego Padres

-This was by far the most up in the air division for me. I think if the Dodgers end up with Manny then they will win the division hands down with maybe a little competition from Arizona. The Giants are rebuilding and with one of the best up and coming pitchers in the game, i think they'll be competitive in about another year or two. The Rockies are young and have another shot of a dream season like a couple years back, but i honestly dont see it happening..but hey, its the NL West, anything is possible. The Padres dont really look like they want to be competitive this season, they were trying to get rid of Peavy; which they still might do, and they lost Hell's Bells, and they're in the middle of a sell, like i said with the Rockies, they could be a darkhorse candidate, i just dont really see it happening.

Well, those are my predictions for the divisions, the playoffs will come a lil later, feel free to comment, make your own, agree or disagree, this is just how i feel the season will play out.

Pat Burrell was incredibly overrated. The acquisition of Ibanez more than makes up for Burrell's departure, even if it means an overflow of left handers in the lineup. I'm not saying that the Phillies will finish first or anything like that (I don't make predictions), just that the loss of Burrell is insignificant at worst.

Dodgers, Cubs, Phillies win their divisions, with St. Louis somehow figuring out how to make the playoffs. In the AL, Angels, Red Sox, Twins and Rays winning the wild card. Who will win it all? Not the Cubs.

OK, the Mets improved their pen, but they still have no middle relief and nobody to consistently get to the 7th or 8th inning that isn't called "Johan"...and they need a bat. And yes, I still heart Adam Dunn yet nobody in all of baseball is touching him with a 40 foot pole...

So yes, as of 1/11/09, it's the Phils to win the east yet again...

And BTW, watch out for the Cincinnati Reds. If they can get an OF bat, all the better...

Cubs win World Series against Rays, 4 games to 3, on an 11th-inning bomb in game 7.

The ball exits the stadium and kills a goat in its return to Earth.

The world ends five minutes later.

I'll wait until Spring Training is almost over and rosters are set before I make my predictions. I will say one thing, though: There's no way in hell the Tigers finish in 4th or 5th place this year. I expect this year's team to be motivated by last year's embarrassing failure.

Yeah, they will be scary this year, as I thought they would be much better last year. I really have no idea what is gonna happen in this division. The Twins did much better last year than I thought, is it gonna be the same this year? Do the White Sox do as well as they get older? The Indians have the talent to make a run, and the Royals are considerably better than what they have been.

I think it'll be a battle between the Tigers and Indians this year. But with the Twins and the White Sox you never know, it could be a 4 way battle for first or it could be 2 teams battling for first while the rest of the team are terrible, but I agree with Joel, the Tigers are not going to finish 4th or 5th. The team is too good not to be 4th or 5th. Plus the fact they have secured their bullpen for this year and their offensive lineup is scary at best.

Same as I always make it. Giants vs A's in the World Series. The series goes seven games, then a HUGE earthquake hits, but fortunately it doesn't kill anyone, MLB gets worried and calls it a tie. Both teams are awarded championships ^_^

Nothing like making baseball predictions. I can't wait for the season to start. Nothing like making nonsense and homer picks :D
