People in your area that follow teams

Nobody's touched Central Ohio so I'll give it a go

1. Ohio State Buckeyes

First thing I saw after crossing the border to Ohio last week: A car with a huge "Buckeyes" script wordmark decal on its trunk lid.

The Buckeyes are the one team that 80% of Ohioans agree on. From what I hear, Cincinnati isn't real big on Ohio State but that's about the only area of Ohio that isn't.

*Toledo has a LOT of Michigan fans. Ann Arbor is pretty close to Toledo. Toledo is split between Cleveland Pro teams and Detroit Pro teams. HUGE Red Wings following.

*Cleveland has a lot of MAC College fans. Many people attended: Toledo, Bowling Green, Akron, Kent, Ohio U & Miami-Ohio!!

*Even though Columbus has an NHL team, Cleveland appears to be Red Wings and Penguins supporters.

*Honestly... when the Browns moved many, many people and I mean TOO MANY people jumped ship to the Steelers side.

As I said, 80% of Ohioans are Buckeyes fans. The other 20% cover what you just said. Being from Toledo, I understand there are a LOT of Michigan fans there but I'd still say the vast majority of Toledoans are Bucks fans.

For example, one of my best friends and my younger brother are both OU alums. Their favorite College Football team? Ohio State.

80% is awfully high though, even state wide. Along with the Michigan fans there's tons of ND fans as well, some MSU fans, some PSU fans, and scatterings of everyone else. I seriously doubt that 20% covers all of them.

My parents went to Ohio State and I've spent a majority of my life in Columbus, I'm an Ohio State fan. However, when college came around I didn't want to go that close to home so I moved down to Athens. I'm now a junior at OU and on Saturdays in the fall the streets are littered with people in buckeye jerseys and that includes myself. Ohio University is such a non-factor in sports that most people don't even think twice about rooting for both schools. I will say this, when OSU and OU played last September I sat in the horseshoe and wore green. I pay too much money to that place to root for the other school when they're heads-up.

Santa Fe, NM

Soccer-my friend at work just moved from Juarez and said that his friend's father owns the Juarez Indios, Mexican Premier League. Other than that, no pro soccer in Santa Fe, just a lot of rec leagues.

Football-University of New Mexico, based in Albuquerque. One hour south of Santa Fe with nothing but a casino in between the two cities.

Hockey-there's always a rec league game at the community center. The Santa Fe Roadrunners of the NAHL, a junior league, moved to Topeka after my freshman year. At the mall, I asked the sporting apparel store-owner about hockey and he said it doesn't make money. An hour away in Rio Rancho is the New Mexico Scorpions, the closest professional team to Santa Fe.

Baseball-College of Santa Fe Prairie Dogs, a team that I helped to create. Have recently quit playing (I was an OF and 2B) to focus on school, which is going under by the way. The state legislature has until noon tomorrow to decide the fate of my college. Albuquerque Isotopes, a great stadium-recently became the AAA affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Basketball-1. UNM Ladies, 2. Albuquerque Thunderbirds, NBDL, 3. UNM Men, recently beaten by the Fighting Irish in the NIT.

Sports:

1. Basketball (8/10) - UNM Ladies, everyone plays basketball. HUGE.

2. Football (6/10) - UNM, high school is very popular.

3. Soccer (5/10) - the closest team to SFe is the Juarez Indios. everyone plays for a team at some time in their life

4. Hockey (3/10) - New Mexico Scorpions. Closest NHL team, Colorado Avalanche.

5. Baseball (2/10) - Albuquerque Isotopes. Much less interest than most places in America. I might put volleyball above baseball based on the fan attendance at my baseball games.

Sound right?

In Fargo, N.D. (which also includes Moorhead, Minn.)

MLB: The team -- Minnesota Twins. Worth mentioning -- New York Yankees, Chicago Cubs, Boston Red Sox, St. Louis Cardinals (just because there are fans of them everywhere).

NFL: The team -- Minnesota Vikings. Worth mentioning -- Green Bay Packers. Maybe a couple of Chicago Bears and Denver Broncos fans.

NBA: The team -- Minnesota Timberwolves, but not strongly. Worth mentioning -- Los Angeles Lakers (there are still Lakers fans from when they played in Minneapolis), Boston Celtics.

NHL: The team -- Minnesota Wild. Worth mentioning -- None, really, because it's pretty scattered.

College -- North Dakota State, bigtime. Worth mentioning -- North Dakota (especially in hockey), Minnesota, Concordia-Moorhead, Minnesota State Moorhead (better known here as Moorhead State).

Soccer -- Huh?

I'll give it a go based on my observations.

MLB: Cardinals. Everyone here loves the Cards. Of course there are a few Cubbie fans out here. Whenever the Cardinals/Cubs play the stadium is probably 80/20. There

NHL: Blues. I've been to a Blues/Red Wings game and there are a lot of Detroit fans that show up, a few of my friends are Red Wing fans I know. Followed closely behind Detroit would be Chicago, because well, it's Chicago. A lot of Chicagoans or Chicago fans reside in St. Louis.

NFL: Well... The Rams I guess. Everyone was a Rams fan from 1999-2004, but then everyone got on the "the Rams suck" train, but still, to true fans, the Rams are definitely the favored team. I have Rams season tickets and no team like the Steelers draw in loud, obnoxious fans. When we're playing Pittsburgh, the stadium has to be almost 50/50, I see more "Terrible Towels" when the Steelers are in town than I see Rams fans after the 3rd quarter. The Bears closely follow, when they come to town it seems like an even split as well.

NBA: ...? Players, just talk about players and stats. Not teams.

NCAA: Mizzou (by far, at least, from what I've observed), Kansas, and Illinois. That's pretty much it.

Well dude it wasn't like I was using a scientific approach or anything. My guess is you weren't either. But hey if you want to take it that seriously feel free. Let me put it this way, Ohio State is the overwhelming favorite amongst sports teams in Ohio. Does that make you feel better?

Well, 95.82% of the time statistics are made up on the spot. But what fun would the thread be without trivial debate?

In Cincinnati:

MLB: Reds, there's not another team that comes close

NFL: Bengals, but there are still Steelers fans too

NBA: Hard to tell if many people in Cincinnati actually give a crap about the NBA, although I'd say most are Cavs/Lebron fans, and will root for Kenyon Martin, David West, and Jason Maxiell

NHL: We don't really care for the NHL either, but we love our Cyclones (ECHL)

College Basketball: University of Cincinnati, then Xavier, West Virginia, Kentucky, Miami

College Football: Cincinnati, Ohio State, Miami, and, believe it or not, there are a fair share of Michigan fans.

Ottawa (I've lived here all my life)

NHL: Alot of Senators fans in the city of Ottawa. People from outside the city on the Ontario side tend to cheer for the Leafs and people from outside the city on the Quebec side tend to cheer for the Habs. I'd say the Sens are #1 but there are alot of Montreal and Toronto fans in this city. This leads to many arguments and even the odd fight. People are real passionate about hockey around here. I know whenever I see somebody wearing a Leafs or Habs jersey I either give them a dirty look or if I'm in a car or a bus I yell at them that their team sucks. (childish but extremely fun)

MLB: Mostly Blue Jays fans. I still see alot of Expos fans around here or at least people wearing Expos hats. The Red Sox & Yankees are also quite popular.

NBA: I'd say the Raptors, but people don't really seem to care about the NBA in Ottawa. The Carleton Ravens (local university team) seem to have a pretty strong following when it comes to basketball.

NFL: Every colour of the rainbow. Pretty much every team is equally popular. Maybe I'd give a slight edge to the Bills because they are so close to Ontario.

CFL: Man do I ever miss the Rough Riders.

Allow me to do the 16-20 year old age range of South Jersey:

MLB: Tailgating Phillies games but not going in, unless it's College or Dollar Dog night.

NFL: Cowboys/Eagles, also tailgating Eagles games but never actually making it in.

NHL: Flyers (April/May and God willing June)

NBA: "We have a basketball team?"

Everyone else:

MLB: Phillies

NFL: Eagles, some cockroach Cowboys fans sprinkled in for our amusement

NHL: Flyers

NBA: Sixers (Could also throw in Big 5 teams for college basketball, pretty heavy following)

Northeast Arkansas

NFL: Mainly split between the Dallas Cowboys and Tennessee Titans with the Rams thrown in there a little bit, followed by a random smattering of teams

MLB: Cardinals are easily the main team, followed by the Cubs, and probably whatever bandwagon is hot at the time like the Red Sox

NHL: Really not cared about, but the few who care usually support the Stars or Blues

NBA: Quite a few people like the Grizzlies just due to the proximity, but everybody else follows whatever bandwagon's hot like the Lakers, Celtics, and Cavaliers (though I do know a Warriors fan for some reason)

NCAA: Split between Arkansas and Arkansas State with Memphis in there as well

Central Arkansas

NFL: Cowboys by far

MLB: Cards lead big time, followed by Cubs, and then the bandwagon teams

NBA: Just whoever. Lakers, Celtics, Spurs, Cavs, etc. Basically whoever is good at the time

NHL: Very few care, but Stars are the team that those that care tend to go for

NCAA: Arkansas by far. Almost no real support for anybody else (even UALR)

My college is a hodgepodge of Uconn, Giants, Jets, Mets, Yankees, Red Sox, Knicks, Rangers, Bruins, Celtics, Phillies, Patriots, and Eagles fans (I'm basically less than a two and a half hour drive from Western NY, VT, NH, CT, Boston, and NYC).

What?

Syracuse, NY is about a 2 1/2 hour drive from WNY, depending on what you call WNY, I consider it Rochester, Buffalo and points in-between. It takes me almost 6 hours to get to my aunts house in Saratoga Springs, NY. I doubt you are 2.5 hours from WNY. Maybe 2.5 hours from CNY (Syracuse, Utica, etc) if you are lucky.

By Western New York, I meant the New York-Massachusetts border which is just about an hour away from my college without traffic.
