NBA offseason 09/10 thread

Anderson Varejao just re-signed with the Cavaliers. It's a 6 year deal that could be worth up to $50 Million dollars. Yes, the guy that averaged 8 points, 8 rebounds, and 22 flops a game over this past season may end up making $50 Mil by the time his contract is up. Varejao is now, w/o question, THE most overpaid player in the NBA.

I know this isn't a trade...but this gets filed under "All-Time Worst Fleece Jobs".

(Or best, if you're a fan of Anderson Varejao.)

Well don't forget that the Bulls still have Luol Deng, who in my opinion is one of their best players.

wrong

Chicago has a solid roster right now

wrong

they have the potential to be a 5 seed in the East

wrong

Boston's poor performance has really deluded a lot of folks, even some Bulls fans, into thinking the Bulls are more than what they are. From the way some of these people are getting excited about Joakim Noah, Tyrus Thomas, John Salmons out of position, and Brad Miller, it's as if we've never experienced greatness before. You know what a solid Chicago roster is? This is. This is a terribly coached Frankenstein's monster of spare parts and journeymen bidiing time till Derrick Rose is developed enough and well-surrounded enough to dominate.

As someone who's had to suffer through many a Kings game, I can tell you that anyone who thinks Brad Miller is a solid option should probably stick to watching golf.

For once, I agree admiral.. the Celtics minus KG did not play well as a unit in the series, Gordon played out of his skin. Now you minus Gordon from that equation and, well, they just aren't very good. Miller absolutely sucks. I just don't see the Bulls coming anywhere close to how they played in the playoffs this season. Rose is a stud, but he's not completely there yet. Noah is a complete nutcase who talked a big game but couldn't finish when it counted. They're certainly a playoff team but the 5 seed? No.

Add all that together with the big 3 (Boston, Cleveland and Orlando) getting better while Chicago got arguably worse this off-season, and you have another early exit for the Bulls in 2010.

Now that he has all this money, what are the chances of him spending some of it on a real haircut?

None. If he didn't look like Sideshow Bob, no one would have the slightest idea who the dude is.

What, asking who that dude is on the floor 15 times a game isn't enough to identify him? Fair enough.

Wouldn't that be LeBron? :P

Good Lord. I semi-expected this fool to be out of the NBA entirely after how bad he was PWN3D in the playoffs. Maybe Lebron should leave Cleveland. What a dumb move.

The Raptors signed Pacers RFA (and former teammate of Bosh at Georgia Tech) G Jarrett Jack to a 4-year $20-million offer sheet. ESPN says it's unlikely that the Pacers will match the offer.

Toronto's reportedly close to brining back C Rasho Nesterovic too.

Looks like Colangelo's making a statement to Bosh to try to get him to stay after next season.

C - Bargnani, Nesterovic, O'Bryant

PF - Bosh, Evans

SF - Turkoglu, Wright, George

SG - DeRozan, Delfino, Douby

PG - Calderon, Jack, Ukic, Banks

I'm liking that lineup (I do hope they finalize things with Delfino). I'll miss AP though. If Colangelo manages to dump Marcus Banks' contract anywhere, that would be a definite win.

Well...we all already know Blake Griffin is going to be the Clips' showcase player next year (and for a s long as he stays a Clip).

But guess who else the Clips are now trying to recruit?

If you guessed Allen Iverson, you'd be right.

True, AI may not exactly be what he once used to be, but still, the prospect of seeing AI and Griffin playing together on the same squad should be at least a little intriguing.

You know your career has flamed out when the only teams who want you are the Clippers and Grizzlies.

The Magic are reportedly offering free agent SF Matt Barnes a contract, althought he might demand more than the Magic have to offer. He would be a nice addition to an already well balanced team. They are also rumored to be looking at Marquis Daniels, Theo Ratliff, Anthony Carter, and Jason Collins as role/bench players.

C- DH12, Gortat (Theo Ratliff? or Jason Collins?)

PF- Bass, Anderson

SF- Lewis, Pietrus, (Matt Barnes?)

SG- VC, Redick, Richardson (Marquis Daniels?)

PG- Jameer, A. Johnson, (Anthony Carter?)

Is Lamar Odom totally against the idea of signing with another team?

I know he wants to stay in L.A. I mean I don't blame him.

But has he totally written off talking to other teams?

I mean he may not even be starting in L.A. next season.

I'd still love to see the Cavs pick him up. Atleast he'd start there.

Although now that we've resigned Varejao, maybe there not even gonna look at any forwards that are actually good.

I can't believe he got that much money and for that long.

I want this guy to go somewhere.

He better start doing something right.

What about David Lee. Any news on him?

Portland, in looking for free agents, got Sean May to work out for them. Apparently they were intrigued by the prospect of signing a big man with a history of knee problems.

I think its amazing that they actually got Sean May to workout, thats like asking an elephant to do a back flip. Bad idea for Portland, they already have one injury prone big man in Oden.

Carlos Boozer has stated that he will not return to Utah next season and that the Jazz are actively looking to trade him. On top of that, he said that Chicago is still a strong possibility.

I'm pretty sure that ship has sailed. If ANYBODY gives 6 years and possibly $50M to ANYONE, that's the FO basically saying "We've got our guy." :P

I'm trying to avoid thinking that.

But it's not easy. :P

Apparently the Heat are trying to land both Lamar Odom and Carlos Boozer.

Major props if they can do that; they may be the beasts of the east.

http://blogs.suntimes.com/bulls/2009/07/re..._on_boozer.html

I can't get over the fact that Varejao will most likely be our guy at PF.

And after thinking about it, the Cavs were really pursuing Channing Frye, but did the Varejao signing take place after Frye expressed his interest in Phoenix? If so, I guess that shows that they're done looking at PFs. But if Varejao was signed beforehand, then would that mean they're still looking at PFs? I sure would like to see Odom in a Cavs uniform.

It most likely will not happen, but don't burst my bubble. :P

Sign and trade involving Varejao please! [that'll never happen.]

EDIT: I'm also hearing rumors that the Cavs may try to move LeBron to PF full-time.

I hear they are zeroing in on Matt Barnes, who could potentially start at SF if that were to happen; [or even Anthony Parker at SF].

I think this could realistically happen, but LeBron would be in the post the majority of the time, which he may not want to do. But if he expresses interest in this idea, then this could work.

Thoughts? Or am I crazy?
