SEAHAWKS GOING GREEN TOMORROW

...you know, if Seattle were to rebrand and have the uniforms be lime and one of the two blues, I'd be all for it. I actually kind of dig this jersey. However, they'd have to eliminate either navy or slate because as it is, they simply cause the look to be muddled.

I think a white helmet, green jerseys, white pants look would be pretty nice actually.

The green of the jerseys doesn't look too bad really. But the helmet no longer fits the set with the lime green jersey.

That's what I was thinking...the bright green and navy wasn't all that bad, but when combined with the washed out green/blue toothpaste colored helmet, it didn't look right. Too many shades of blue & green.

Well, one thing is certain: they ended up playing the way they looked. Like absolute :censored:.

And that's coming from a die-hard Seahawks fan.

Amen. Make the numerals blue with white trim and MAYBE you'll have something. Thank God they didn't break out lime green pants. I hope they never wear those things again.

No contest as to what Seattle should be wearing.

The green jerseys are AWESOME, but they either need to change the helmet to navy or add more green to the logo. I think a green face mask on either the current helmet or a navy helmet would look amazing.

I, for one, actually like them. The only lime green alternate in the NFL! I believe, however, that these would look better with white pants. The Seahawks need to do two things to improve their uniforms: drop those fugly blue pants, and go with just one blue. That way, the helmet blue is consistent with the uniform, and we don't have to be treated to the dark monochrome look again. That look in football, wether it be high school, college, semi-pro, or pro, is overrated. The only reasonable monochrome look in the NFL is white-on-white (light blue-on-light blue and red-on-red are somewhat reasonable, but just don't work), and has been for decades.

Some steps the 'Hawks can make to looking better, like listed above:

1. Burn the dark pants.

2. Ditch one of the blues (preferrably the darker, almost-black navy), doing this and making the home sleeves white instead of the almost-black navy is a step in the right direction.

The reactions of some posters in this thread almost makes me wish the Hawks had went full-out with the green:

SEAseahawkslime-1.jpg

It appears to me that these are just too different for some, too "out-of-place" in the overly conservative-looking NFL. It's out-of-the-box, for sure (which is why I love it). This much I'll go out on a limb and predict, however: what you saw yesterday may very well jump off a mini-trend of sorts of "brighter" colors being rolled out somewhere down the line during the next round of team rebrandings. (In my own person opinion, in the world of sports and graphic design, everything is circular. In this case, it may circle back around to the era of the '70s and early '80s, the last era of truly expressive color, especially in Major League Baseball.)

And I'm quite certain that the sun made those jerseys appear much brighter than they really were. Check the photos of Housh somewhere earlier in this thread. Besides, it ain't like these are the only "bright" colored alternate jerseys in the NFL--or have the collective masses forgotten about a certain other electric-colored alternate belonging to a team back on the other side of the contiguous 48?

(popped out of my Monochrome Madness thread, of course. ^_^ )

One other thing: I'd like to take this time to point out that this thread has grown by about five pages in a matter of just over 24 hours. What does that mean? People are talking about these jerseys--in here, on sports talk shows, in watercooler discussions, wherever. Love it or hate it, by virtue of that fact alone, I'd say the Seahawks have achieved their objective. And should these jerseys go back on sale (and I'm willing to bet that this particular version WILL go back on sale), the dollars is gon' churn up. Just y'all watch. :D

I say, if they want to keep their lime green hard-on (which i kinda like) they should just keep it to accents. Gloves, cleats, maybe socks, maybe facemasks even. Subtle stripes, number outlines. But jerseys? come on, its a bit over the top

I don't like that shade of green at all. But "that color doesn't look pretty to me" isn't a particularly useful criticism -- in fact, it's not really a valid criticism at all, from a design perspective. Aside from the fact that all colors look pretty to some people but not others (I'm a big fan of cerise, for example, which most people seem to regard as a shade of pink, even though it's actually nothing like pink B) ), there's nothing wrong with any color as such. The problem with Seattle's uniforms, as has been pointed out by others, is that the neon green is not integrated into the uniform. The neon jerseys are an example of mere juxtaposition. There's no design here.

The green pants would actually help, since it would tie the entire below-the-helmet uniform together. But still, a color this vibrant has got to be the basis of your identity if you use it at all. It can't be a third color that you tack on and then paint all over your uniform. So start with the neon green and build from there. A slightly dark blue would be my first choice, but a copper red or even a deep orange could also work. As could a very dark, cool gray. In fact, maybe the NFL could fix two teams by taking the pewter off the Buccaneers and sending it to the Seahawks. The Seahawks can match pewter helmets with neon green and blue, while the Buccaneers can use their non-pewter colors as a modernization of their classic creamsicle look. But I digress. The point is that the problem here isn't the color, ugly as I think that color is. The problem is that the Seahawks used the color in exactly the wrong way, confusing and undermining their brand identity rather than building it.

Sorry, man. That's pink. It's a nice pink, though.

I can't picture copper, orange, and pewter on the Seahawks. I think what made their redesign so well-done is that they didn't really stray from their original blue-green scheme and logo, they just made the colors look cooler and the logo look newer. There's enough neon green in the uniforms to justify it, but not enough for my tastes (I think it should be in the numbers, Buccaneers-style). If they were to depart from their colors, something I think teams should avoid at all costs, it would really dilute the brand.

Before they break out the green jerseys again, I think the Seahawks should consider using a slightly darker shade of lime green for the jerseys, much like how the Miami Heat use a darker shade of red for their alts. The bright green they currently looks good on thin piping, but is overwhelming when used for an entire jersey. The darker green in Bucco's photochop is still distinctive, but looks much better than what they actually wore.

And could someone (ColorWerx?) show a side-by-side comparison of the Seahawks' and Sounders' colors?

Whipped this up with Photoshop. Eliminated the navy, used white pants. Didn't make the sleeves white for the alt., but I'll get that done with the home uni soon. Kind of what this alt. would look like if I had my way (as is my wish for the Seahawks in general):

Please excuse the "chippiness" of the pic, as well as the darker white. ;)

EDIT: Here's what I think the homes should look like:

There. Much more consistency in the 'Hawks uniform colors.

Just because something is outrageous doesn't mean it's good.

Supporting a bad uniform simply for it's "shock" value kind of rings hollow.

The Panthers electric blue uniforms look nice, and i think actually look better than their black sets.

The Seahawks green set isn't better than anything, and should be confined to the depths of NFL obscurity...
