Buster Olney is reporting that the Mets may call off their pursuit of Jason Bay in favor of a few less expensive options. Orlando Hudson and Randy Winn were mentioned.

He also says the Cardinals may do the same with the Holliday situation. They have an offer on the table that is widely speculated to be the best one out there for him. But the Holliday camp is not budging. Maybe one day Scott Boras will learn that just because he compares a player to Mark Teixeira doesn't mean everyone else does.

Then Olney mentioned something that really got my attention. He says he doesn't expect the Braves to spend any more money after signing Glaus. THEY BETTER!

The Mets off-season plan put your fingers in your ears, close your eyes and sing the la la song.

So their off-season plan is basically the same approach you take with politics.

Word on the street is that the Braves are going to go after Dan Uggla and possibly give up newly acquired Cabrera to get him. Apparently, the Marlins will have to be blown away by any offers coming from Atlanta. But if the Bravos can land Uggla, I say go for it.

I think the Marlins would be eager to trade Uggla since they're trying to stay under $40 million in payroll and a bunch of their players got raises in arbitration.

I've also seen that the Cubs are interested in Melky Cabrera.

Anything that can get Melky out of town would be fine by me. Like the good man @ Talking Chop so succinctly put it, he's basically the Yankees' version of Jeff Francoeur. A three-way deal between the Cubs, Marlins, & Braves in which which the Braves get Uggla, the Cubs get Melky, & the Marlins get some prospects that they won't pay when they reach their potential would be ideal, but idk if that'll happen or how. Would be nice, though.

Also, Mark DeRosa is probably gonna be a Giant.

I'm a huge fan of this move. Derosa may have some down sides, but he helps to really balance out the Giants lineup. If they can reup Uribe and possibly bring in Jermaine Dye they could really give LA and Colorado a run for their money.

Per Rotoworld.com

According to WFAN's Mike Francesca, the Mets have signed Jason Bay and completion of the deal is only pending a physical.

Sources have informed Francesca that Bay's contract will be finalized early next week. It's not yet clear what the exact financial terms are, though the Mets' latest rumored offer was worth $65 million over four years. If they stuck to their guns, it seems like a fine pickup. Bay, 31, hit .267/.384/.537 with 36 home runs, 119 RBI and 13 stolen bases in 531 at-bats this past season and will add considerable pop to the Mets' 2010 lineup.

It's $6MM more. Oh well, Urbon really misplayed the market and I'm glad nobody gave him 5 years. The most disappointing part is that he signed with the Mets. First, of course because they're the Mets, but more importantly because their first round pick is protected so no we're stuck with their second rounder. Drat.
