8 game lead now, the Cuban Missile, Votto, Bruce, Stubbs and all our DL guys coming back soon.

We sweep the Cards this weekend and we go to 11 up with the magic number to 17.

Damn it is good to be a Reds fan right now.

Just put my name in the playoff lottery this morning.

Crazy brawl in a crazy game going on in Nats vs. Marlins. Punches thrown, players ejected within minutes.

I'm not following the game tonight, but I bet the brawl had to do with Nyjer Morgan's actions from the night before.

Nyjer got plunked twice, prolly cause of the actions from last night, and got pissed off about it.

SB Nation coming through with the gifs.

lmao, Nyjer Morgan got his ass whupped & still played to the crowd. True heel.

Was that Sanchez's version of the Clothesline From Hell?

I don't have an issue with anything Morgan did here aside from maybe walking off of the field with his arms up.

What did the Marlins take issue with? Him stealing two bases in an 11 run game in the 4th inning after they hit him? Isn't the point of the game to score runs, which he managed to do? If you can't play to score runs in that situation, why bother even finishing the game?

The funny thing is that Morgan's in the middle of appealing his 7-game suspension for throwing a ball in the stands in Philadelphia. Since that time, he's run over a catcher that wasn't trying to block the plate, seperated another catcher's shoulder, and now incited a brawl.

Morgan's likely done for the 2010 season...whether it be the Nationals or MLB doing the deed.

No kidding. What the hell has gotten into this guy?? He's rapidly becoming the next Milton Bradley before our very eyes!

Agreed with the bolded portion. If that is the Marlins problem, then they should go :censored: themselves because you need to score as many as you can at all times; furthermore, wasn't it a week or two ago where two teams blew roughly nine run leads? The Reds came back after blowing their huge lead vs. the Giants to win, but I can't remember the other game.

Um he separated their catcher's shoulder last night and than stole two bases. If he did not separate Brett Hayes shoulder on Tuesday, perhaps they would not have taken issue with the seals. In addition he was not hit with the pitch, it was just a message pitch, Morgan should have tried to get revenge by hitting the next pitch out.

Fair enough, I didn't see the game; just saying how if what See Red said was the reason why the Marlins beaned Morgan, they'd be wrong.

And if he were white, that'd make him like the grittiest grinder ever!

The only message a "message pitch" sends is "I'm an asshat" (or "my manager's an asshat" if the pitcher plays for St. Louis), and anyone who tries that deserves a response of that sort.

So not only now is it illegal to criticize Black Presidents its illegal to criticize black players, even if they have been on a two week long Milton Bradley style meltdown.

If Nyjer Morgan slid on Tuesday he may have been safe. On Saturday he went around the plate and bumped a catcher and was out because of it, had he touched the plate he would have been safe and their was no real play on.

He threw a ball at a fan as well.

This not just one incident.

Isn't this the same guy who was responsible for allowing an inside the park homer earlier this year because he threw a fit after missing a catch instead of trying to field?

You're correct. In fact, in the span of four games (5/19 vs. the Mets; 5/22 vs. the Orioles), the end result of Morgan's gaffes were inside-the-park homeruns.

Braves and Rockies.

Morgan was right to try and score. You play to win the game; hello. Another retarded "unwritten rule" like not bunting to bust a no-hitter.

I've never heard of this particular unwritten rule. I don't think it's even an unwritten rule...it's not smart baseball, though. When you're down by 10 runs, it's not a good idea to risk running yourself into an out.

Alright, after reading many stories on this...I've determined that this really should've been over after they plunked Morgan in the 4th. That was really thin-skinned on Wes Helms part to throw at him after that. So what if he stole two bases? YOU MAD? Even up by plenty, they felt the need to throw at Morgan for stealing bases as his revenge. That's almost as ridiculous as Dallas Braden berating A-Rod for walking over the mound. Just silliness.

That being said...Morgan's still a douche. I'm still laughing at this cat celebrating after he got JBL'd out there.

Yeah, players get all upset if their team is down big and the other team is stealing bases, bunting guys ahead, taking extra bases, etc. I've heard announcers refer to the "unwritten rule" dozens of times. It's dumb though - if my team is going to stop trying to score, will your team intentionally kill your 9th inning comeback if it looks like you may actually be able to tie the game? Of course not.

Unwritten rules in sports are mostly dumb. Unless safety is the issue, just play the damn game the way it's supposed to be played. If you have to lay down a bunt, you can't change your strategy because the other pitcher has a no hitter. The no hitter would be more special if he had to field and make a great play on said bunt attempt anyway.

And was Pete Rose hated as much as some of these players are? "Charlie Hustle"? Didn't he end a guy's career or something in an all star game? He may not have been the most popular player out there, but his skin certainly played a role in his perception as a hustler vs. an idiot.

Morgan deserved to get thrown at the first time. He is an ass and he pulled a ridiculous stunt and hurt the Marlins catcher. Yes he stole those bases out of spite. As mentioned earlier he is an ass and the Marlins should have expected as much. I know that pissed them off but they shouldn't have thrown at him again. Although I'm glad they did because seeing Gaby Sanchez kick his ass was priceless. It's obvious that Morgan has behavior problems. He should get counseling and should not be allowed to return to the team until he completes it. There is no excuse for him acting the way he does. I'm just talking about in general here. It's pretty well known that he is not a professional.

Please let's not turn this into a race thing. It makes no sense to even bring it up in that way. Nyjer Morgan is an immature idiot. That's pretty clear.

Ken Caminiti broke the leg of Greg Olsen in 1992 by doing the same thing Morgan did the other night. He was a jerk for doing it just like Morgan was a jerk for what he did. It has nothing to do with "hustling" and everything to do with being a d**k. These are two teams that are going nowhere. No need to try to hurt people.

I was never aware of this unwritten rule either. In fact, I've often thought that if I were every beaned by the other team, I'd steal at every opportunity I got. How can you be mad at a guy for trying to jump start his team from a big deficit?

I love baseball, but I really hate the unwritten rules and beanball wars. If you have a probably with a guy, be a man and confront him face to face. Don't be a wuss and throw at him. I can't stand that.

WIth all this said, Morgan is an idiot. I thought it was hilarious when he threw a fit to give Adam Jones an inside the park homerun. Now, he's acting like a WWE wrestler after a brawl. The guy really needs to calm down and stop making himself look stupid.
