Well, the Red Wings blew out the Coyotes 6-1. There go all the Gary-Bettman's-trying-to-give-the-Coyotes-the-Stanley-Cup conspiracy theories, and the Coyotes, when known as the Coyotes, still can't get past the first round.

I can not rightfully participate in even the unbiased stance of "watching hockey for the sake of hockey" in this Sharks - Red Wings series. I just don't think I could handle watching these two collective groups of jackholes go at it for 5-6-7 games. I usually do just enjoy watching a hockey game and especially a playoff series, even if I don't have a team in the fight or a team to root against. Sharks/Wings I have a problem with. Unless by accident or out of pure boredom until I get angry and every shot/save/penalty/powerplay/goal/nongoal that goes on for either team and switch the channel, I just cannot watch that series. Not one bit.

Western predictions:

Chicago vs Vancouver - Vancouver in 6

San Jose vs Detroit - Pray for Armageddon to strike... or I guess Wings in 6. The Sharks aren't going to stand a chance. Wings are heating up.

And God help us if we have to go through another Red Wings/Penguins Stanley Cup. I pray to all that is holy, please please please oh please do not let this happen

I couldn't agree more - another Red Wings/Penguins final, and i'd probably suffer a cerebral hemmorage. Actually, come to think of it, just another Red Wings appearance at all would do it. Sheer boredom sets in for me every time they're in the finals, and it would be another final not watched by me. Here's to hoping miracles exist and that someone, anyone, beats them along the way.

Um, it took Detroit a full seven games against a mediocre team that relied on Adrian Aucoin shootout goals and now we're waving them through to the Finals like that?

no team that has eliminated the sharks has won the stanley cup. so if the wings do eliminate the sharks, history says they will not win the cup.

No, not really (at least in my case I'm not waving them in, I refuse to lol ), but remember this is Detroit. I've never seen a team pull more luck out thier you-know-what's than Detroit. I personally don't think they'll make it this year, I'm just saying that if they do, I'm going to go legitimately mad.

Clearly I am pulling for the Sharks in round two. However, I am a bit nervous that the Sharks will be the Sharks once again.

However, there are some encouraging stats.

The Sharks only lost 2 games in round 1. They lost Game 1: 2-1. The other loss was in overtime 1-0 on an own goal.

I am hoping they may have worked out the kinks and what ever is bothering Heatley is fixed by tomorrow night.

Also, the Wings have been a real Jeckyl & Hyde team this playoffs. They have not been consistant from night to night.

I am still not impressed with Jimmy Howard. The Coyotes with Doan out, a less than stellar offense and a so-so defense took them to seven games. The Sharks are better in every position than the Coyotes except for goaltending.

I don't know about The Stanley Cup but is this the year the Sharks finally don't embarass themselves?

Speaking of San Jose, I hope the Sharks sweep the Dead Things out of the playoffs. Last thing the NHL needs is another Detroit-Pittsburgh Stanley Cup Final. Get some new blood... I want a San Jose-Washington final.
