Trust me even people named Marx in Idaho are Conservative, and Sarah Palin was a Vanadal.

What's a Vanadal?

according to wiki

Idaho?s athletic teams go by a name earned nearly a century ago by a basketball team coached by Hec Edmundson, whose teams played defense with such intensity and ferocity that sports writers said they ?vandalized? their opponents. The mark made by that 1917 team went far deeper than wins and losses on the court. In 1917, Harry Lloyd "Jazz" McCarty ? a writer for the student newspaper, the Argonaut ? tagged the team with a new nickname in a pregame write-up: "The opening game with Whitman will mark a new epoch in Idaho basketball history, for the present gang of 'Vandals' have the best material that has ever carried the 'I' into action." McCarty?s indirect suggestion stuck. By 1921, McCarty and Edward Maslin Hulme, the dean of the College of Liberal Arts, succeeded in their push to have Vandals officially adopted as the nickname for Idaho teams.[5]

Don't mind me, but I went ahead and vanadalized their logo to reflect the spelling error.

Just watched the highlights from Boise St/Nevada. That kicker's gotta be the most unclutch guy on earth.

"Mr. Unclutch" just cost his school a boatload of money. Had Boise State made a BCS bowl game, that would've been several million in their back pocket. Had the Broncos made the National Championship Game, even more! (Not that the kid woud've seen a cent of it, so I guess doesn't bother him all that much.)

Awesome game tonight, it lived up to the hype and then some. This Boise State team may be a rival of one of my favorite teams, but they're so fun to watch. Plus they help to raise the other teams in their conference up to higher levels. I hope they can run the table and get a shot at the National Title, I feel that they could in the very least hang with anyone in the country. But if they do slip up, it'll be late in the season to Nevada. Come November, that's gonna be a HUGE matchup.

Ahem, what was that again, Bucfan? :P

What a ballgame. I picked up two tickets to this game back in summer and at the time I felt that I WAY overpaid for them. Not anymore. By far the biggest win in school history, and I'm proud to say I was there. I was lucky enough to be in a good open spot and stormed the field with tons of other Nevada fans. I picked Colin Kapernick out as they were lining up for the kick and as soon as the ball was snapped I made a v line for him and and leaped right into his arms. What a game. Way to go Wolf Pack!

Great the Cam Newton love fest continues, get's paid to play, has the BCS protecting him and now apparently the CBS announce team is going blow him as well.

Seriously, the kid plagarized papers (more then once) got caught, went to Blinn, sought money to play, go a full scholarship and CBS is going to praise him? He is a cheat, nothing more.

Anyone else have a feeling he is going to end up with a few "personal conduct" suspensions in his first years in the NFL?

(and no I am not a 'Bama, Oregon, TCU or Boise St. fan, just a NCAA fan that is tired of hearing of these whiny kids trying to get more and going unpunished)

These kids should get paid. They're not even kids, they are college students and it's criminal that they don't get paid something (especially considering these schools and Athletic Directors make millions on their behalf). I'm a college student myself, and I have a job, so I like to get paid, hence the reason why I'm working for it. But, these collegiate athletes don't have a time for a job, so how are they suppose to pay for food, rent, or even just spending money (i.e. video games, cars, etc...)?? Even if they have a full-scholarship, that only covers the academic part of it, and housing in dorms. But, who wants to live in a dorm for that long? I sure as hell don't.

Academic cheating is wrong, no way to put it differently. However, Cam Newton is not the first nor last high-profile collegiate athlete to be payed and to have cheated. But it is wrong to deny these kids some sort of income when the rest of their co-students have time for a job and so they'll make money. Cam Newton needs to be disciplined for cheating academically, but not for getting paid to play.

We need to stop denying these collegiate athletes money when their respective sports are their jobs. It's criminal.

The problem is the coaches and AD's make money, not the schools. Only 14 of the 120 FBS schools made money due to football, that means 88% of the programs lost money. The athletic departments are given subsides from the University, last on average of $8 million. $8 million spent on sports, in addition the to athletic departments normal budget. Notably last year TAMU recieved $18 million subside from the schools general funds to cover expenses. The average expense per athlete for an FBS school was $76K, FCS $24K, non-football DI schools $30K. While it could be argued that Title 9 plays apart in this, that would still not explain $52K difference between FBS and FCS athletes. So since the athletic departments can't foot the bill, the players don't get paid *only scholarships* who takes the check? The answer the non-athlete students, this would explain the national average tutition increase between 5-10% a year. The last FCS school to jump to FBS increased athletics fee by $900 per student per year, five years before the re-classification occurred and the fee has increased.

No, it is not criminal, these athletes chose to be NCAA student-atheletes (that word is itself a joke), if they wanted to make money with no college and NCAA rules they could have easily tried out for their local arena/semi-pro/donkey football league and made $200 a game. However they wanted to play NCAA DI football so they could one day play in the NFL. I feel no sympathy for football player living in the athletic dorms (yes, they exist and they are nicer) while they have their 4 year tryout for the NFL.

You know what this win for Nevada does (outside of the obivous, of course)?

It muddles the WAC big time! Nevada beat Boise, who beat Hawaii who beat... Nevada! So, who wins the WAC and heads to San Francisco for the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl? Hm.

Anyway, massive win for Nevada. The Wolfpack are a good team and their only loss came at Hawaii, which could be considered a snake pit since it's such a damn long road trip. As for Boise: I do feel bad for them because they've been fighting so hard to inch within the top 3 only to fall because the kicker shanked it.

Well, there's next week. Take that anger out on poor Utah State.

Through reading from page 95 I learned two things: 1- Nevada, after being down 24-7, storms back to beat Boise State and 2-you guys wasted no time at all.

I read someone say that had there been a playoff that this game wouldn't have mattered as much, so that's really why I'm responding here. To throw in my tired, over-said, argument that the games under a playoff near the end of the season matter MORE than they do under the current BCS system to more teams. What I mean is, what exactly did this game do for Nevada?

You know what? I don't care. I don't care at all.

The Miami freakin' Redhawks are going to the MAC championship game! This team won a single game last year. ONE. After being irrelevant to the MAC the past three seasons, I'm too excited about December 3rd to care about anything else right now. Screw the BCS, screw the argument for playoffs! Let's go 'Hawks!

Embarrassing! Anyone want to place bets on the next team Lights Out bandwagons?

You of all people have no room to talk.

Now taking offers on a new team to root for.

Make your case.

I don't know how I should have made it more obvious that it was a joke. Sure, I say absolutely absurd and stupid :censored: all the time but I'm not going to just stop rooting for my hometown team just because they suck.

Side note, where do you live? You seem to be a fan of an odd ass collection of teams. Just wondering is all.
