And Buster got what he absolutely deserved. Heyward, Strasberg, Garcia, and Sanchez are all going to be great ball players, and I'd be stoked to have any of them on my team. But truth is, nobody was even close to doing what Buster did this year. I've said it since the day the Giants drafted him, this kid is going to be a superstar.

BTW, with the Cy Young win, Halladay also gets the "honor' of being on the cover of MLB 2k11. Thank Goodness too, now I don't have to stare at his ugly mug every time I play MLB 11 The Show :P

Are the Baseball Writers of America blind? Or Just plain dumb?! How did Price not get the AL Cy Young Award?! And how did someone with 13 wins get it?! If Price can't win it with the type of season he had and facts his stats for the season produced, then I'm afraid the Cy Young, for at least this year, was little more than a popularity contest. David was wrong in his interview, the best pitcher did not win. I hope he was only make good public statements, shame on you BWAA, shame on you! If I'm in the minority in this I don't care, Price should have won, or at least CC Sabathia, 13 wins on a Cy Young when he's a starter is inexcusable.

Felix shouldn't be punished for the team he plays on.

You put Felix and his stats on the Rays or Yankees, he probably wins 25 or 26 games. And vice versa for Price and Sabathia (put them on the Mariners, 13ish wins.)

The Cy Young is for the best pitcher that season in that league. Felix had far and away the best performance by a pitcher for the full season. The team didn't have a great performance, because they suck. But they don't suck because of Felix, they suck in spite of Felix.

Plus, Felix Hernandez had 19 wins last year. This year, he only had 13 but not only was he better than any other AL pitcher in 2010, he put 2009 19-Win Felix Hernandez to shame. He had 2 CGs last year, this year he had 6. At one point, he had 3 CONSECUTIVE COMPLETE GAMES, but one went into extra innings & he didn't factor into the decision because, surprise surprise, the Mariners offense gave him little-to-no run support at times. (That game right there should be evidence as to why the W-L stat for pitchers is stupid.)

Still MIGHTY hit the nail on the head: You give Felix the Rays or Yankees' offense, he would've been raking in wins. You give CC & Price the Mariners offense, 13-12. I mean, look at the stats. Felix was putting up video game numbers. It's amazing, the only argument that people have against Felix is his W-L numbers, and that's a dumb argument to begin with!!! It's astounding. The Cy Young is not a team award, it goes to the best INDIVIDUAL PITCHER, and Felix was the best.

Wins are the dumbest :censored:ing stat to go by, especially for an AMERICAN LEAGUE PITCHER, and you're dumb for even starting to suggest it. Like... dumber than usual, even for you, which is setting the bar extremely high.

If they were going for popularity, don't you think CC would have won in a landslide? The Mariners aren't exactly the MLB's most popular team, after all.

Also, wins are meaningless. The Mariners had the worst offense we've seen in recent memory. It's a minor miracle that Felix was credited with 13 wins in spite of the rotting albatross around his neck known as the 2010 Mariners' offense.

SabermEtrics is not the reason that W/L as a pitcher's stat are stupid. I'm not a strict follower of sabermetrics and I think W/L is a stupid stat for pitchers. It's about understanding what goes into a pitcher winning a baseball game. Really, a pitcher only has control of half the game, if that. If his team blows offensively then he could conceivably give up 1 run every game and never get a W. That pitcher would get a cy young vote from me despite going winless.

Valuing wins is stupid. We're never going to get this through Tank's head because it's thick as a brick, but wins mean absolutely nothing. Most of the time a pitcher with Felix Hernandez's stats would win well over 20 games and then everyone would be okay with him winning the award because he has an acceptable number in an archaic stat (which was developed back when pitchers actually pitched whole games and batted. Also, it was used as one measure of a pitcher's effectiveness, not THE measure for effectiveness), but for some reason he has to be on a team with a healthy offense to be a good pitcher. That makes sense to people? This year his team was so putrid offensively that he managed to squeak out 13 (which is pretty impressive that he got that many). How that's his fault, I don't know. Thank goodness the baseball writers aren't as dumb as the rest of you.

It would be the equivalent of a good NHL goalie on a team with a crappy offense. The goalie could have the one of the best GAA's in the league and the team could miss the playoffs. Is that crazy to believe that he's still a very good goaltender? No and it's the same thing here.

Add "anti-sabermatrics" to tank's list of greatest hits.

Arguing for wins is like arguing against gay marriage. There exists not a single conceivable fact-based argument, so it devolves into witless, bigoted declarations of what is right and wrong. Just replace the Bible with Sabermetrics.

I get the Felix Hernandez arguments. But don't you also have to look at the fact that he plays half his games in the second best pitchers park in baseball while a guy like CC plays in the second best hitters park in baseball and that CC and Price pitched in big games down the stretch? I definitely consider those things. I'm a big sabermetrics guy, and the gap between the two is quite a bit smaller when you look at it in the light of the more advanced stats. I could care less about wins and losses, as I think I've made known in the past, but I also think there's far better stats than the traditional ones. Between CC and King Felix, I give the nod to CC.

And this isn't some bias... I'm a Sox fan. I hate the Yankees and Rays.

Yes, the bandbox that is New Yankee Stadium does screw over CC at home. However, the fact that the Yankees' offense this year was far from the worst offense in recent memory made it easier for him to get wins and hold leads. Felix, however, won in spite of the Mariners' albatross of an offense and made it damn near impossible to do either of those things. So the voters were still right in giving it to Felix in a landslide.
