I for one do not hate the Canucks and Im a big Wild fan, crazy right? After the Olympics I was tired of hearing about the city of Vancouver though.

Crazy indeed. How can you not loathe the success of a division rival?

Lord knows my Avalanche fan of a wife does. She HATES Vancouver and it drives her crazy that I dont share that hate with her.

On the side, Joel Ward is your John Druce of these playoffs. Damn what a postseason hes having.

Nashville wins Game 5, and it's going back to Country Music Land.

Story B: Red Wings go undefeated and score 100 goals in every game. They also beat a team comprised of Godzilla, the ghost of Abraham Lincoln, 2 Power Rangers and Betty White. Oh, and they played in the middle of Iraq on a military base. In the sand. With no ice. Santa gave them special sand-skates that allowed them to play in shorts and t-shirts in 115 degree weather. Jesus, Zeus and Buddha watched from the sidelines and ate cotton candy.

I find that a team being in the same division as your favorite team or even being a historical rival is a piss-poor reason to just flat out HATE a team. Unless the team or its fans has done something to personally offend or piss me off, then I have no reason to hate them. (Though in most cases where fans wind up hating division or historical rivals, this is usually the very reason why.) While the Ducks are my favorite team, I'd honestly almost consider the Sharks my second or third favorite team.

I'm very much the same way. My friend and I are Ducks fans and while he loathes the Sharks, I don't. I ask him why and he says to me, "Because their fans are :censored:s." I'm just like, huh? Not really, dude, I think you're just taking the whole division thing too seriously. Quite frankly, I don't think anyone in the Pacific really has a distinct "rivalry". Except maybe Anaheim and L.A. or Anaheim/San Jose and Dallas. I just don't see it.

If they keep getting severe brain cramps on the powerplay, I might start hating the Canucks. The amount of short handed goals they've been letting in in the playoffs is inexcusable.

Edit: About Luongo, thespian of the ice, he has been far less dramatic this year. He's grown up a bit in that regard. He used to be really bad about it, it was kind of embarrassing.

As a Sharks fan I can say that the Ducks are a team I actually kinda like. With their start as the Disney team that just about took out the Devils, to their Stanley Cup win a few seasons ago they've always been a team that I'd root for if the Sharks are out of it. The Kings on the other hand I really dislike. But those two are nothing compared to my hatred for Detroit and Dallas. I hate them both so much I'm not even quite sure just who I dislike more. My favorite part of hockey season (considering that the Sharks haven't won a title as of yet) is seeing those two eliminated.

I dont use divisions as excuses for rivalries. I really dont even hate Tampa, not even after this year. I dont look at them as really rivals. The Caps rivals as far as i'm concerned are the Pens, Flyers, and to a lesser extent the Rangers.

I don't have any issues with the Canucks and as soon as the Sharks eliminate Detroit then I won't have any problems with any of the remaining teams winning the cup.

Of my team's division rivals, I really can only say that I hate the Detroit Red Wings. I'm annoyed by the Predators because they're a relatively successful expansion franchise and the Jackets have lost 16 straight games in Nashville. I really don't like the Blues because of TJ Oshie and their style of play, but I don't hate them. I have no issues with the Blackhawks and prior to the existence of the Blue Jackets they were one of the handful of teams that I half-heartedly cheered for along with the Avalanche, Flyers, and believe it or not, Penguins.

List of teams that I do hate: First and foremost, the Detroit Red Wings, Penguins, Devils, and Coyotes.

Outside of Detroit and Vanny, i don't hate any team left in the playoffs. I am firmly on the Bruins bandwagon, however...

As far as team hate...

In the division, I hate the Kings vis a vis their fans. And in the scheme of it all, Kings fans hate the Ducks more than Ducks fans hate the Kings. They were around for 40 years when the Ducks won the Cup in their 14th year. The Ducks were the little upstart compared to the Kings when they came in. I just hate Kings fans because of that whole attitude towards the Ducks, and that they haven't made a new joke in 18 years. (Really the Gordon Bombay/Emilio/Charlie Conway jokes can only last so long.) The only team I've developed some on-ice hate for is the Sharks. We've been competitive around the same time, there have been some important hard fought games, there is the playoff series we had, and the whole NorCal/SoCal thing. The first player I remember hating was Jonathon Cheechoo, because it seemed like he scored a hat trick on the Ducks every damn game. And even with the Sharks, like Bucfan said before about the Ducks, they are almost a team I could have rooted for. I like Sharks as a team name, I always liked the old logo, I've loved their jerseys, and when the Ducks traded Teemu Selanne up to SJ, I did have a small soft spot then. I don't really hate Dallas/Phoenix more of I just hate Steve Ott/Shane Doan. And with living out here, the Yotes are almost my second team with the amount of games I went to, and that I still love Bryzgalov.

In the playoffs, I hate the Sharks for the aforementioned reasons, but I also want the Sharks to lose so the Ducks can still hold the title of California's only Stanley Cup. I hate the Red Wings, because really, who doesn't? And because the Ducks have played the Wings so many times in the playoffs, and that built up grit/grind has crossed into some regular season games on the ice and with the fans. The last series alone has made me hate the Nashville Predators out of sheer annoyance. That has been documented in this thread. In the east, I guess I only have a slight disdain for the Bruins just based on my hate of the Celtics (vs Lakers), Patriots (vs Colts), and Red Sox (vs Angels). I don't have anything against the Bruins themselves, and I actually like a few of their players, and I always like seeing a team end a Cup drought (for the most part). But I hate their fans purely based on the fact they are probably fans of the other teams I hate the most.

I'd be really happy with a Vancouver/Tampa Cup Final and probably a Tampa victory. I really have nothing against the Canucks other than the history of Luongo and that's just more funny to me, and I only dislike the Sedins because they're so good. I thought I'd start to hate them if a "Bring the Cup to Canada" movement started again (All of that from the Canadian media in 2007 with Ottawa was annoying as hell), but that hasn't really started. I'd be happy with either team winning, but I'd rather have Tampa.

As a Bruins fan, there are clearly some in the division that I have no tolerance for but really most of the intense feelings go towards Montreal. Toronto has been a great trade partner the past few years and they need to get better before I consider them a rival worth getting angry over. Ottawa is barely on the radar as far as negative emotion. Buffalo can be a real gnat sometimes but it's only when they beat the Bruins in the playoffs that I start to get riled up about them. Otherwise, they are probably the most tolerable team in the division.

Outside the division, you'll never, ever, see me cheering for the Wings, Flyers, Rangers, or Penguins.

The only thing I could see people getting angry about with the Canucks is Luongos hype machine. Everyone wondered and talked about how great he would be once he got away from Florida and he's really not that great. Same thing with Olli Jokinen and Jay Bouwmeester.

I'll be honest...

To me, the Red Wings are the most evil team to ever exist (in my own little crazed and delusional mind). I am all in favor of the Sharks just curbstomping their asses tonight so they can go back to that little dump of a city and stay there for the remaining of the playoffs.

*whew*

Other then that, I don't really have a favorite team left here. Although, it would be nice to see Vancouver win it all so the few Canuck fans that remember the 1994 Stanley Cup Finals can finally erase those memories for good.

2 Vezina nominations and a William Jennings Trophy. Oh, and a Hart nomination to go with a team Canada selection and a few all-star appearances.

And THAT right there is why you're getting the posts you're currently reading.

Every year you were guaranteed to have the first two rounds feature division opponents. That fed the fire that potential rivalries would've emerged out of. Now you get your Tampa-Pittsburgh, Phoenix-Detroit, etc. series where it's just "I want my team to win" and not "I not only want my team to win I want them to stomp on their opponents collective throats and then destroy every last one of them".

For the record, I "hate" all the other teams in the Atlantic - PIT, PHI, NJ, NYI and I don't know why that is. For instance, I'm a Jets fan and I hate Miami (Marino) and eventually came to hate New England (Brady). I couldn't give two craps about what the Bills did/do (or the Colts for a while). Same with the Mets. I always hated Atlanta and more recently the Phillies, but the Marlins and Expos/Nats? Not even on my radar.

Other teams winning certainly has a bearing on that, but outside of hockey, I'd say there's more teams OUT of my teams' divisions that I loathe.
