DaytonBlue
If Stern forces Maloofs to sell, I could see Kings to Seattle. I bet they'd play at the Key for a few years if a new building was coming.Bucks want a new building.Timberwolves want a renovation that will likely happen as part of Vikes stadium financing from Minneapolis. The Q in Cleveland opened in the mid 90s and was well-built, so it still has some life in it.I could see Seattle having a long wait if something works out for the Kings and Bucks. CS85
Worst part about all this is that Clay Bennett owns all of the Sonics history, including banners, trophies, etc. If another team gets relocated to Seattle they would likely have to file an appeal to get the rights to their own history. At the same token it seems kind of sad that in order for Seattle to have a basketball team again they'd have to rob another city of their team. CubsFanBudMan
I'm pretty sure the history is shared, which as I believe we've covered in this thread somewhere, is potentially worse than a Browns deal. Especially if an existing team moves to Seattle.

The NBA doesn't want to let the new precedent of "we'll you" that the Maloofs have now established to stand. Moving to Seattle would just play into that further hurting the NBA's ability to get public funding for arenas down the road. Plus Seattle right now has more value to the NBA playing the roll that LA plays for the NFL than it does as an actual city with a team.

And keeping Seattle in play like LA is for the NFL is key because I don't really see any other city that could take an NBA team on, besides maybe Kansas City. BBTV
It's not the same. In the NFL, with all the revenue sharing and money being made, even teams that need new stadiums aren't doing that bad. In the NBA / NHL, when you have the league having to step in and buy failing teams, they can't afford to have a great market just sit there as leverage. The_Admiral
Well, the NHL can let great markets just sit there, because with revenue linked to expenses, it's in their best interests to have a "leaky roof" of failing teams that artificially keep spending down for Boston, Toronto, et al while their own revenues are sky-high. ♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

The Maloofs came out yesterday through a third party and said they're "ready to come back to the table if approached." However since the Maloofs have already on the table and then burned it down the city has other ideas. The city turned around today and has announced that along with ThinkBIG (their stadium group) they're offering the $250 million in public funds and the would be arena site the Maloofs broke asses turned down to the A's instead. Sacramento is setting themselves up to be the first out of Bay Area option should San Jose fail and Oakland remain useless like it has been for the last 17 years. Which means the likelihood of any new arena being built in Sacramento as long as the Maloofs are involved with the Kings has dropped from unlikely to 0. If the Kings are going to stay it's going to have to be with new ownership, and even then it may be too late.

bosrs1
I'm sorry Sacramento citizens but, how do you guys even have a team. I mean do people even go to the games? They did before the Maloofs killed off 3 arena plans (the most recent being the most ridiculous and brutal), started fielding a team only a few dollars above the salary floor, and threatened to move the team to Anaheim. They sold out every game for 17 of their 26 season. The Kings "woes" are all self inflicted by the morons who own them, not the city and not the fans. If I lived in Sac I wouldn't be going to games to financially support those buffoons either. The Maloofs need to sell and the NBA needs to force them to do it, and fast. I mean seriously, what NBA owners would turn down $255 million dollars in public financing and a downtown site for an arena, particularly in California where public financing just doesn't happen? Why do you think Stern was pissed when they did? They haven't just pissed off Sacramento, they've pissed off the NBA too.
ninersdd
On top of that they sold their 2nd round pick this year, which never is supposed to happen if you are barely at the cap floor. In addition, the team hasn't made any significant moves forever now, like not signing Ryan Anderson who was from this area, and would've made a lot of sense for the team. Again, one of 2 teams who haven't made the playoffs the last 6 years, and the other one(Minnesota), appears like they should make it next year. Pretty much been their MO for the last ten years. They've run their casino in Vegas into the ground and were forced to sell all by 2% of that. They sold off their father's beer distributorship empire (despite it being the source of their wealth), and now they've run their basketball team into the ground. This is the problem with giving 3 overgrown apes millions of dollars with no training on how to use it. They blew their fathers entire fortune on strippers, cheeseburgers and botox for their sister. While doing that they've also dicked Sacramento around for the better part of a decade claiming to support the city's efforts for a new arena, most recently getting the city to commit $255 million in public funding for a new arena only to pull out their support each time causing the deal to collapse. Only bright side is they've been so blatant in doing it that even Stern has come out and not only been empathetic with Sacramento but also said if they try moving to Anaheim again he'll likely work to block it. There will not be any public money but UNLV is looking to build a new on-campus, retractable roof facility, designed like Saitama Super Arena. However at least three stadium/arena other projects have failed in the last 30 months.
