2013 MLB Logo and Uniform Changes

Take a look at the Dodgers' website.

And then look at this snapshot from the Wayback Machine:

I'm not too sure if I like this new branding.

It's okay, but not as good as the snapshot you posted. Look at all that Futura and the pastels from the stadium seats. Perfect!

Me too. The best part is that it's just "Baseball." Not Emm-ell-bee. The batter logo is fine, but too similar to the NBA logo, and as someone who grew up with the NBA first and foremost, it always felt like a ripoff, even if it wasn't.

Yea I was lookin on the mothership and it seems MLB had their logo first in 1969 for their 100th anniversary while NBA introduced theirs in 1970 for their 25th anniversary.

And looking online at articles, it does seem MLB started the design for theirs in 1968 while the nba did in 1969 as it appears on a sticker sheet here http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-WN61GeLhdpY/TiZYmx7kobI/AAAAAAAAAwo/KQAte5BuxJI/s1600/nba.jpg.

The man who designed the NBA's logo, Alan Siegel, had previously overseen the developent of MLB's logo. He was later asked to use that as a base for the NBA's logo.

It's no accident, Siegel notes, that the logos are similar.

He says that J. Walter Kennedy, the NBA's commissioner from 1963 to 1975, told him that "he basically wanted to have a family relationship with baseball and to use red, white and blue to position basketball as an All-American game."

Siegel says he came up with 40 or 50 designs, none of which featured any players other than West, but Kennedy gravitated toward the derivative of the baseball logo.

"And in those days," the designer says, "it was top down. He made the decision. There was no research. There was no discussion. He said, 'We're doing this.' "

Here's an oddity for another thread altogether possibly...

The Houston Rockets didn't start play until 1971 and started with this logo...

However that sticker sheet says 1969, and it has the San Diego Rockets logo except it says Houston on it. What's going on here?

I got mine from Hat Club.

When I called the Brewers team store, they said they'd only be available at their store, so that's false information they gave me. That led to my assumption that it would only be sold there at limited quantities

That's what I thought as well. I was pretty shocked to see it there and only picked it up because I figured it'd be the only chance I'd have to get it. I didnt think I was going to have the time, but now that I do, I'm going to try to go to the Spring Training game where they wear them.
