2013 NFL Off-Season Thread

It's essentially a 1yr 7M contract with 3.5M in unreachable incentives (if he starts and wins the SB, he gets 1M, if he plays 90% of offensive snaps, he gets 500K, etc.)

Only 3.5M is guaranteed, so he's not a stone-cold lock to be on the roster, plus he's easy to trade (contract wise at least.)

My assumption is that Kelly just doesn't think Nick Foles is athletic enough, and isn't sure that even if he gets Dixon, he's even a borderline NFL-caliber player. So yeah - Vick is a 1-year punching bag while they install whatever system he's using and then try to draft someone in '14.

The Eagles hired Tom Gamble away from the Niners for a second stint in Philly. He'll go from Director of Player Personnel to VP of Player Personnel but will still report to the GM Howie Roseman. Amazing get

The Bears terminated Johnny Knox's contract and a day later he leaves the game. No surprise at all considering the gruesomeness of the injury that nearly paralyzed him, but he'll still get his full pension/benefits courtesy of the Bears keeping him on for another season, very similar to Jahvid Best's situation with the Lions.

Knox retiring doesn't bother me much. He was pretty eh in his career. But hearing that Jahvid Best is probably done really bums me out. I saw him play live vs Miami in the Emerald Bowl a few seasons ago and he was the most impressive running back I've ever seen in person. He had so much potential, and it's a shame that his small size and concussion problems ended his career.

We know about the time he got helicoptered against Oregon State in 2009, but I can't remember how he got his 2nd concussion that has made him miss so much time. I know he got hurt against the 49ers in the handshake game, but it definitely wasn't as insane as the 09 play.

The whole 'reporting to Howie' part kinda renders this move irrelevant IMO, since I don't see Howie as the type that would listen to anyone and give them any credit.

Knox should have gotten his full benefits any way. He was lucky just to be able to walk after that injury.

Packers release Charles Woodson.

Saw this coming, just too bad it actually happened.

Say's he'll only go to a team with a legit Super Bowl chance. New England is a team that would love Charles I figure.

10 days later, Titus Young is released from the Rams.

Should've just shut your mouth, buddy.

And don't take Janoris Jenkins clubbing.

Sucks, but the Packers have a very talented crop of young DB's who only need the playing time and experience. Would've been great to keep him one more year, but it wouldn't have made sense to pay $10 million for a dime back when the team needs all the help it can get on the D-Line... specifically, a Cullen Jenkens-like DT who can blow up the middle.

Agreed with the DLine. I honestly didn't think losing Jenkins would hurt this bad, especially since BJ Raji has taken two steps back.

Hadn't heard this one before, though:

When he went to Athletes Performance in Carson, Calif. before his 2011 draft to train, he lasted one day at the facility. Young was booted off the campus after threatening to beat up an intern when he was told that he ran a 4.6 40-yard dash when he expected to run a 4.3, according to football performance trainer Travelle Gaines, who worked at AP at the time.

Wow. Starting to wonder why we even wasted the pick on him...

This guy is a class act. Wouldn't surprise me if he ends up with the Bengals (I hope not). Marvin always likes to take on these lost causes and Dalton could use more weapons in the passing game.

I think Cincy's his last hope. Schwartz and Fisher are two of the more lenient when it comes to character issues in the NFL, with Lewis being another. Can't think of many more teams that would take that risk, regardless of how bad they are. Not worth bringing a cancer into a locker room based solely on potential.

I guess it's not all potential, though, since he's better than Calvin already. Just without the whole speed/height/route running/catching/attitude thing.

We (the bengals) have bigger problems than this idiot if & when he ends up on the team. The problems begin in the owners box as long as the brown family owns this team and won't spend any money we are doomed to be just a good team. And I am really hoping that we don't waste our first round pick this year on Eddy Lacy I mean the guy is good but def. not what we need. I would like to see them pick up Reggie Bush or steal Mendenhall from the steelers for that purpose but like I said its the brown family and they won't spend a dime more than they have to on this team. Man I feel better after letting that out.

Yeah, I mean... wow. The reddest of red flags. I really hope that the GM that drafted him didn't know about that at the time.
