2013 NCAA FOOTBALL THREAD

Missouri, if they beat Auburn, will jump ahead of Alabama. The margin's pretty close in the polls as it is and finally having a "marquee win" would put them first in line if either Ohio State or Florida State falters.

For the record, I think one of the two does just because that's how things tend to work. But if not, FSU/OSU's the clear matchup as it should be. They're the only two teams for who someone can't say they've been the best team against everyone they've played.

NCAA football really does bring to light, more-so than any other sport on this site, just how much of a civil war we have between the North and the South fans here. It's pretty unreal.

Not really. It's more a matter of people from all areas outside the southeast getting a little tired of hearing about the mighty SEC. Change SEC to the Pac-12 and everyone would be ganging up on the west. Sure, we have a few people here who clearly don't like the south but overall, there is no "civil war." The SEC is just the college football version of the Yankees, Red Sox, and Patriots.

So tell me how wrong I am.

Impossible. You could not have hit the nail more squarely on the head.

Mighty Ducks of Anaheim (CHL - 2018 Orr Cup Champions) Chicago Rivermen (UBA/WBL - 2014, 2015, 2017 Intercontinental Cup Champions)

King's Own Hexham FC (BIP - 2022 Saint's Cup Champions) Portland Explorers (EFL - Elite Bowl XIX Champions) Real San Diego (UPL) Red Bull Seattle (ULL - 2018, 2019, 2020 Gait Cup Champions) Vancouver Huskies (CL)

USC just hired Washington head coach Steve Sarkisian to be head coach. I still think Orgeron earned the head coaching spot, but the Sarkisian hire doesn't surprise me at all. He was an assistant coach at USC before going to Washington, and he's a pretty good coach. Hopefully Orgeron gets a few big offers, because he deserves it for that huge turnaround.

He still didn't a good job at Ole Miss, and had nothing to lose coaching the Trojans after the ASU disaster. I'm still skeptical of him being successful long term at a good program.

Lane Kiffin, 28-15, 17-12 in the Pac12.

Steve Sarkisian, 34-29, 24-21. He is 31-29 if you take away his three FCS wins.

Ogereon's issue is that when he took the Mississippi job, at the first team meeting he asked the team who still had loyalty to Cutcliffe and then ripped off his shirt and challenged those guys to a fight. Plus, there are not going to be many major jobs which will be open this year. His best major program option would be UCLA only if Jim Mora moves to his alma mater, Washington.

Look, you won't get much petty "offended" crap from me, because I established a long time ago that I'm a Northerner trapped in the South, as far as personality goes. You also won't get me being a blind SEC homer, because I subscribe to the complete opposite idea of most SEC fans in that I want my rivals to lose at all times. If you think I was posting that from a "butthurt SEC fan" POV, then you're barking up the wrong tree.

Also, to blindly imply that the Pac-12 would be subjected to the same thing is nothing more than an unproveable strawman. You could very easily be right. But we have no way of proving that. Also, just from a general point of view, there's nowhere near the kind of division we see from, say, the East and the West that we see when it comes to the North and the South. Trust me, that's pretty much entirely the South's fault for that, but that's the South's fault for crap that happened 150 years ago by a bunch of now-dead people. But if you're asking, no, pretty much telling me things would be the same if some other conference were dominating, and I have a hard time buying that as a hard-and-fast fact.

But believe what you want to believe, because you are certainly entitled to your own opinion as much as I'm entitled to mine. There's a reason why most of my opinions are met with disagreement, hell, you should know this just as well as damn near anybody on this entire website.

Unless we're talking about sports media bias.

My reply had nothing to do with your personal feelings on the mater. All I was saying is that you're seeing something that I don't believe is there. Outside the tired SEC squabbling, how much tension, or whatever you want to call it, is there between northerners and southerners around here? I would say very little. My point was simply that there is no "civil war" going on here.

With regard to my "unproveable strawman" - like your civil war observation is indisputable fact? This place has a history of turning against teams, or in this case, conferences, that have long runs of success - see: Red Sox, Boston, Patriots, New England, State, Boise, et al. So yeah, based on what I've seen in my 8 years around here, if the Pac-12 gets on a run similar to the current SEC run, you can bet your ass that we'll be seeing the same type of reaction that we've seen with the SEC.

Yeah, I wouldn't want him anywhere near my team and we're averaging .5 conference wins a season under our coach (who is confirmed to be back next year). He took over Ole Miss while they were doing pretty good and drove them into the ground. USC had a roster stacked of 5-star talent that was held back by Lane Kiffin. He'll probably get a head coaching job this off-season, but I wouldn't take that chance.

Orgeron's a significant reason why USC had a roster stacked of 5-star talent despite being under major sanctions.

Orgeron is a fantastic recruiter and the type of guy you want to let loose after Kiffin's life-sucking stranglehold. But he's not the guy you want to coach your team in any long term capacity. He was able to ride his wave of fun once Kiffin was gone, but that didn't help any against UCLA and I don't think that could have been sustained into next year.

Going with Sarkisian is the right call for USC.
