CUP- Montreal over St. Louis

Boy I can just envision the riots now. I still remember how bad the 1993 riots were, and they even had mini-riots when the Habs went to the Conference finals 3 years ago.

Anyway its going to be a Minnesota North Stars-Hartford Whalers Stanley Cup Final and the Quebec Nordiques will win the Cup.

Okay mr McFly, you're two years too early. We don't quite have flying cars just yet.

Yea, and 93 was only 7 years since the last cup. Those fans are hungry.

I'm not predicting anything until Bryzgalov lands.

Why? Because the team that picks him up won't make the playoffs? Also, I have a theory of why Bryzgalov wasn't invited to the Russian olympic orientation camp. Because the are Humongous bears in Sochi.

The magical confluence of a sloppy defenseman being easily nicknamed Patrice Breeze-By was like a once-in-a-generation thing, I guess. The next best thing we can ask for is a bad season from Kari Lettin'-in.

The Columbus Blue Jackets will win their first-ever playoff game.

The Winnipeg Jets will not.

The Phoenix Coyotes will report losses of at least $15 million.

I'd love to say the Hawks will repeat, but it's so hard to do, especially when your core guys are banged up beyond banged up with a super-short summer and you're easing like three rookie forwards into the lineup (unless Q is able to lobby for using the last of the cap space on, like, Brad Boyes).

Another thing to remember with the Hawks' amazing run is that the absence of training camp and presence of terrific roster stability played right into the organization's hands. To think, we were gnashing teeth because all Bowman did was add Rozsival and Brookbank, but really, the fact that everyone pretty much knew everyone meant they didn't have to jell like other teams did. Look at the way the "system teams" all failed: the Rangers did too little, the Coyotes were too late, the Panthers and Predators might as well have not played the season at all. Given that the Hawks' system is simply "every second you have the puck is a second they don't," all that's asked of you--haha, "all"--is that you be an elite hockey player. Without roles to learn, the Hawks had a huge jump on the teams that have to play Lowest Common Denominator hockey to keep up with the contenders. With a full camp and ample practice time, you can't expect Phoenix and Nashville not to get back to their death-slog ways. The Hawks should still be able to slice and dice their division, but it's highly likely that they'll run into quicksand again in the playoffs.

Would you say the Blues are a system team a la the other ones you mentioned? Their goaltending killed them early on before they picked it up and finished hot before running into LA again. They did have some issues putting the puck in the net during the year.

They don't trap and shell as much as the true system teams, but you can solve their forecheck pretty easily if you have the speed to beat them to the dump-ins, as with Los Angeles. The new version of Hitchpuck is basically just a dump-and-chase from hell, which is great until you keep willfully ceding possession.
