2013-14 NHL season predictions

I saw the NBA and the NFL versions go up, so I figured it was about time.

Maybe this could also delve into the Olympic roster predictions?

Anyway, here's my two cents (I'm only doing the top 10 in this post)

East:

Boston

Pittsburgh

Washington

Detroit

Ottawa

NY Rangers

*******************

Toronto

Montreal

============

NY Islanders

Columbus

West:

Chicago

Los Angeles

San Jose

St Louis

Minnesota

Anaheim

****************

Vancouver

Winnipeg

===========

Phoenix

Dallas

Notes:

Boston -Chicago going as the no 1 seeds seems a bit safe, but given the way that the NHL mostly worked last playoffs, I think it actually might happen.

I think the Blue Jackets will be better than they had been, but I'd be insane to say that they could keep up their pace in the second half of last season. They're moving into a tough division and Bobrovsky could still fall yet, he did play for the Flyers after all.

Homerism for Ottawa? Yes

That would set up an Ottawa - Detroit playoff series that I would go to absolutely every game.

Senators win the Cup. I had hoped they would do it with Alfredsson hoisting the Cup on his way out, but oh well, I guess Bobby Ryan is pretty good.

♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

What a sick, twisted turn of event that would be, if the Sens beats the Wings in the Cup finals.

But we would like to play the role of the Hawks in the quarterfinals last year. Or a sweep where every game is 7-0. Either way...

With this new playoff format, I don't know how to rank the teams.

Quite simple actually (grab a snack)

Top division seeds get th #1 and 2 seeds in the conference.

The next two Teams in each division get into the top 6 as well ( making the division seeding 3 for 2 divisions rather than 1 for 3 divisions, didn't we want to get rid of that thing?)

Then in the playoffs it's 1 vs 8 , 2 vs 7, and the 2nd a 3rd seeds in opposite divisions play each other.

It is kind of confusing now

Which means I was wrong about the DET - OTT series, it would be NYR vs DET and OTT vs WSH

- All the old southeastern division teams will miss the playoffs.

- The Blue Jackets will make the playoffs

- At least 2 of the Central division playoff teams will be terrible.

- The Blackhawks will finish first in the west (this isn't a prediction. It will happen. That division is 2010 NFC West bad)

- A good team in the East will miss the playoffs

- Somebody important will get injured during the Olympics

- The Olympics will not live up to the 2010 tournament

I realise that my playoff predictions are a bit crazy, but I don't think the regular season standings are so bad. What do you guys think?

Prediction: Outdoor games are going to get old in a hurry by the end of the season.

Story B: Red Wings go undefeated and score 100 goals in every game. They also beat a team comprised of Godzilla, the ghost of Abraham Lincoln, 2 Power Rangers and Betty White. Oh, and they played in the middle of Iraq on a military base. In the sand. With no ice. Santa gave them special sand-skates that allowed them to play in shorts and t-shirts in 115 degree weather. Jesus, Zeus and Buddha watched from the sidelines and ate cotton candy.

CUP- Montreal over St. Louis

Boy I can just envision the riots now. I still remember how bad the 1993 riots were, and they even had mini-riots when the Habs went to the Conference finals 3 years ago.

Anyway its going to be a Minnesota North Stars-Hartford Whalers Stanley Cup Final and the Quebec Nordiques will win the Cup.

The Catch of the Day!
