NFL '13 SEASON THREAD

It hurts my soul to read idiotic comments on twitter about how Rodgers and McCarthy are running the Packers into the ground. Who are these horrible creatures?

If anyone's running the Packers into the ground, it's Dom Capers. That was a total repeat of last year's playoff matchup with Kaepernick running all over them in similar fashion, like they learned nothing and didn't watch any tape.

I thought the Packers had the same fiber-reinforced turf that Denver has. Then there's Soldier Field, which is just a bunch of random patches of sod that never quite set.

♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

Don't you mean "competitive advantage?" .........

The Chargers ride ends next Sunday.

Who won the last meeting in Denver? That's right.

I look forward to another post-season Payton Manning choke job against San Diego B)

Who won the last meeting between San Diego & Cincinnati... oh yea, that's right, it means so much... wait, no, it doesn't.

Then you will most definitely be disappointed.

San Diego doesn't have the advantage of getting Denver on only four days rest this time around.

The same four days rest the Chargers had?

Four days rest doesn't affect anybody on the Chargers like it does Manning, though. They have to give the guy days off to rest his arm when he has a normal week between games.

Think he'll be reliving that for a little while?

He was called offside though. 49ers declined.

Source: I was there. <<<<<<<<<

^ That would make you a frozen Bagel then? :D

I thought he looked offsides but don't recall the refs announcing it on the broadcast. I was only kind of half-watching though so I may have missed it.

I bumped into my ex-girlfriend on the concourse of Paul Brown Stadium. I hadn't seen her in two years and didn't know she was going to the game. After we broke up she began dating a Steelers fan and became a Steelers fan herself (unforgivable). After that relationship ended she started dating another Bengals fan and went back to being a Bengals fan (somehow more unforgivable). During the time we were dating we went to three Bengals games all against teams they were favored against. They lost all three and they lost yesterday. I blame her.

Collectively my teams have lost 11 consecutive playoff matchups. ELEVEN. It's almost comical. Cincinnati as a city needed that win yesterday because now the Bengals and Reds have a tall task ahead of them with convincing people next season that going to regular season games is a worthwhile investment when these constant playoff flameouts in the first round EVERY MOTHERF****** TIME make the regular season feel hollow and pointless. I know I'm going to take a break from sports for a little while. It's so not rewarding.

I can't remember ever seeing Bob McNair before.

He just looks like Wilhelm to me.

Noooooooooooooooo its John from the Visitors he is a Reptile coming to harvest and enslave the human race and steal all our water.

Good Lord, Cincinnati might as well just cut Dalton after this game. What a horrid performance.

I did not know about Andy Dalton before the game, but now I do and he sucks. Also its time to can Marvin Lewis 0-5 in the playoffs is grounds for dismissal especially at home against the Chargers in the rain and cold.

Can we all agree that the worst field in the NFL is in Landover?

That's gotta be stupidly infuriating. I know there's worse situations in the NFL (Jags, Raiders, Browns come to mind), but when you're always-the-bridesmaid-never-the-bride in the NFL, you get stuck with middling draft picks and a clusterf___ of off-season stupidity. Some fans LIKE being mediocre, like it's "just a matter of time" until that magical something gets them to the next level. The Bengals have a few solid pieces on their roster, and Marvin Lewis isn't the guy to bring them above that plateau. I personally think Lewis is a great coach but not at the professional level. He's like Lovie Smith and other coaches who love to build this family-like atmosphere in the locker room and ride the slow train to Patience Town with their talent.

Andy Dalton's good, but he's not THAT good. AJ Green is awesome, but he's quickly becoming Andre Johnson lite, and will be too injured/old when they finally DO get a quarterback, if ever. There's talent at a lot of positions, but how good of a coach are you when all you get is a worthless division title and a "You Tried" sticker?

Bengals need an enema. They need the balls to fire their coach and the courage to gamble these years of physical prime from their investments.

Well, with no Packers left, I'd like to see this Super Bowl matchup since neither has any hardware:

It knows it must outrun the slowest gazelle or it will starve. It doesn't matter whether you're a lion or a gazelle. When the sun comes up, you'd better be running." - Unknown | 🌐 Check out my articles on jerseys at Bacon Sports 🔗

It was just, at the time, the odds of another Candlestick game were so thin that there was no point in really discussing it.

Now? Yes, it's actually possible, and a rematch of their epic 2011 playoff game with the Saints would be one hell of a Candlestick send-off.

Oh no it was certainly discussed. It's one of the biggest reasons SFPD were flat out arresting people for trying to walk out of there with "souvenirs" after the game. They had big signs everywhere that read "Respect The Stick" and they kept emphasizing that even though this is the final regular season game at Candlestick, they still may have playoff games there.

I do have to say though, and this may be a bit selfish on my part, but the only thing that would make me hate this years Saints team even more is seeing them force another game at Candlestick.

The Saints have absolutely no business even being in the playoffs this season IMO, and seeing them take the final game at the Stick from me would be pretty annoying :P

As long as there's a different outcome of course. :D

In fact, the game being at Candlestick and the Saints winning would be the perfect culmination of a friendly rivalry between me and a friend that started in 1989. Just one example of the back-and-forth: 4 of us airline employees flew from San Jose to New Orleans to see the Saints and Niners open the '90 season on MNF. The Saints led the whole way but SF kicked a FG on the last play and won 13-12. This guy sat behind me all the way back to San Jose and about every 90 seconds he'd lean forward and whisper: "Loser!" :cursing:

We're still in touch and I would love the Saints to close the 'Stick by sending the Niners home.

Just curious...why does an 11-5 team have no business being in the playoffs?

Because they should be 9-7. Those ticky tack unnecessary roughness calls at the end of the first Bucs game and the end of the 49ers game are two of the absolute worst calls I've ever seen. Both were clean hits, both caused fumbles that would've effectively ended the game. There is nothing you could say that is going to change my mind about that.

I actually like Drew Brees, but he's turning into the NFC's version of Tom Brady he's so coddled.

@ Bucsfan, I respect your point of view. But every team, every season, wins some they should have lost and loses some they should have won. I would counter your Bucs & Niners games with the Pats and Panthers, two games the Saints could easily have won except for a turn here or there like the non-call for holding on Brady's game-winning pass. For the most part it all comes out in the wash and that's why I seldom complain about officiating unless the game literally turns on it. For example, had Philly beaten the Saints I wouldn't have bitched about DeSean Jackson stepping out of bounds on his 40-yard catch that led to a TD. Sure looked like he did but they didn't see it. The Saints had some calls go their way too.

For what it's worth I think the call on Clayborn in the Bucs game was a far worse call than the one on Brooks. Clayborn's looked like a clean, hard hit to me. He shouldn't have been penalized much less fined. The Brooks call may be frustrating for those who think QBs get too much protection - and that includes me - but hating the rule doesn't make the play legal. I thought it was borderline but the consensus in the mainstream sports media was that it was a penalty.

Meant to ask whether any of the Philly fans here are old enough to know why it creeped me out a little when the Saints took a 20-7 lead in the 3rd quarter.
