Not exactly NFL news, but still pretty cool. It's probably a long shot to actually happen, but it's fun to think about.

Noooooooo no no no no no no. We shouldn't even be playing football here. Don't make the rest of the world start destroying its brains.

It may actually be a good thing in a macabre way. If the Olympics presumably models their international football (heh) after USA rules/equipment, there will be alarming data harvested from one summer's worth of games that was only played once in 4 years. It would certainly make the NFL look like liars, but then again, that's not terribly difficult as it is now.

Is the CFL considered "American football"? Just curious what rule set the rest of the world uses since there's two distinct sets in effect on American football's home continent.

Same question but in regards to Australia.

Also does anyone remember NFL Europe rules? Or was it basically the leprous puppet of the NFL only in Europe?

I'd say no, it's its own thing. Bigger field, no fourth down, one point for touchbacks, I think there might even be a twelfth man on the field. I don't even know how Australian football works. I think it's basically waterpolo on grass.

Is CFL the one where one player gets to ride a horse?

I don't think so, but I believe you are allowed to use a sled dog team after Labour Day. Maybe I'm thinking of something else.

The CFL is definitely its own thing. There's American football and Canadian football.

Field is 110 yards by 65 yards.

12 men per side.

3 downs.

One point if a missed field goal, punt or kickoff (but only if the ball is touched by someone on the return team for kickoff) isn't returned out of the endzone or goes through the endzone. Called a "Rouge".

No fair catch but kicking team has to give a 5-yard bubble around returner before he touches the ball.

Goal posts are at the goal line.

Defence has to line up a yard off the ball.

Offence can have all their eligible players (that are on the field for a play) moving around behind the line of scrimmage any which way they please before the snap.

You can punt whenever you want during a play and any eligible player behind the person who's kicking can go get the ball.

And us Canadians have bigger balls.

The article said that if american football did become an Olympic sport, it would probably be 7-on-7, so it would likely be some unrecognizable thing that Americans and Canadians alike rejected and Malaysia would be a powerhouse.

No horse?

The Stampeders have a lady who rides a horse up and down the sidelines after touchdowns.

But no horses on field ever since the unfortunate incident at the 1952 Grey Cup where Flin Flon Flyers quarterback Red "Lefty" Howard was never able to play again.

There's some game in Central Asia that involves riding horses and trying to catch a severed goat head, or to throw a severed goat head, or to actually sever a goat's head. I don't know. All I know is it involves Afghans, horses, and goats. Make that an Olympic sport.
