He could come up here to Canada.

Why not? That's what Warren Moon had to do until Murica could finally accept seeing someone darker than a paper bag behind center.

F~~k this country.

I don't think anyone bats an eyelash about black quarterbacks anymore. Honestly does anyone even notice the QB's skin color in 2014? It didn't even dawn on me until this very second that Nick Foles is the Eagles first "regular" white QB since Ty Detmer (or Bobby Hoying - I'm not counting Doug Pederson since he was signed specifically to be a transitional QB) in 97 or 98, and that with the exception of a couple of seasons in the late '90s, the Eagles have had a black QB since 1987.

Of course there's still racism in the country, but I think that people who "can't accept" a black qb just hate black people in general - the position is irrelevant.

Was Jeff Garcia the Eagles back-up? I honestly can't remember...

Yeah he was never the real starter. Kevin Kolb was named starter, but only actually started one game and was demoted after getting hurt in that game. The Eagles QBs since Ron Jawarski (who himself split time with Cunningham towards the end) have been Randall Cunningham, Rodney Peete, Ty Detmer, then a mess for a couple of years that involved Bobby Hoying and maybe even Koy Detmer, then McNabb, Vick, and Foles. Again I'm not counting Doug Pederson who started around 10 games in 1999 because he even admitted he was only a temp. Also not counting guys like Jim McMahon who were just backups who ended up playing a lot due to injury.

The Vikings have also been a black quarterback team for a long time: Warren Moon, Cunningham, Culpepper, T-JAXX, McNabb, and now Bridgewater I guess. That's most of the last twenty years.

Looks like his NFL chances are done. It's too bad. I viewed the St. Louis cut as legit, but given the preseason he had I'm not totally comfortable with him not even making anyone's practice squad.

I'd say the NFL is not ready. It's gonna have to wait several more years (barring a superstar coming out).

This all works out well for the NFL. I don't think a marginal talent would be wise to come out now.

This is what I was saying. He played pretty well and was just drafted by a team loaded at his position, but to not land anywhere else? Like I said if not for the Rams he wouldn't have been drafted, and this is before we saw he COULD hang in the NFL.

So what is the excuse now? I'm pretty sure my Cowboys could use a pass rusher, or anyone that plays defense for that matter. How he didn't make a single team, let alone a practice squad is just baffling.

Ok, Sam got 3 sacks against maybe 2nd-string offensive linemen at best. How did he fare against the run or on plays where he didn't sack the QB? How did he do on special teams?

If you're going to be a pass-rush specialist, you better be really, really good at it. If you aren't, you better be able to perform well at various tasks, such as run-stopping, special teams, etc. If you're going to be on the back-half of the roster (which Sam would have been had he made the team) on defense, you better be as much of a Swiss Army knife as possible. I've no idea how Sam performed whenever he was on the field.

704 players just got released in this final round of cuts. Only 320 will get to be signed to the practice squads around the league. There's going to be nearly 400 players that just missed being on NFL rosters that won't even be on the practice squad.

I agree with what some are saying the press is now hurting Michael Sam and could be scaring away teams that may pick him up.

For coaches that work around the clock for game planning having the extra press cover practice and answering questions about Sam is counterproductive. We know Sam's story by now if he gets on a practice squad or a team he has to be allowed to be just another football player now. Its unfair to Michael Sam personally and the team to make it a big story if he is picked up. That shower story by ESPN was just disgraceful and only hurts everyone involved.

Sam won't be on any team's practice squad, mainly because no team wants to be barraged with questions about a practice squad player. No coach is going to answer misinformed and misleading questions like "How's Michael Sam doing? Any chance you'll activate him? Why haven't you put him on the active roster yet? Is it because he's gay? Are you afraid of gay players?" for 20 weeks. The media's fascination with his sexuality has cost him a legitimate shot at a NFL job.

And let's face it - the guy is not the next coming of LT. During the offseason, he beat offensive linemen who also got cut.

Smart is believing half of what you hear. Genius is knowing which half.

I get that. I just hate that any player has to pay for that. I don't like Tebow as a player, but I think he didn't get another shot because of the media circus more so than his play. That just doesn't seem right to me.

Right... not anymore. But it wasn't until 1998 that more than a handful of teams had black starting QBs at the same time; even though the league itself had been predominantly black for quite some time at that point. A lot of black QBs played in Canada for that reason, and Warren Moon is probably the most famous example.

I imagine we're going to be seeing a lot of gay players going to the CFL for awhile, for similar reasons.
