I also explained in the listing the different jersey grades so the purchaser was aware of what they were getting.No big deal right? To my surprise, I get an e-mail this morning stating that EBay has removed my listing and that I have violated their terms of service. I called Customer Service to find out what the problem was, and they explained to me that because I listed it as "Replithentic" I am being written up as a seller of counterfeit jerseys.I told them there are a number of jerseys on EBay that are 100% counterfeit, and I can assure you that a Jersey given to me as a Hanukkah gift from Dick's Sporting Goods is not counterfeit. They then asked me to explain the term "Replithentic" because to them that means a "not real jersey."I said you do realize that people are using "Authentic" and "Game Worn" on EBay listings of counterfeit jerseys, correct? The customer service representative seemed dumbfounded that someone would lie about an authentic jersey. He then said to me that the NFL line of "Limited" jerseys is considered authentic by EBay because it has sewn numbers. I had to explain to him that not every jersey with sewn numbers is authentic. I actually had to give him the link to the article I wrote for BaconSports (http://www.baconsports.com/comprehensive-guide-to-buying-jerseys/) and it finally made sense to him.So, now I have to go through an appeals process with EBay so they don't close my account. That being said, it's no surprise there are so many counterfeit jerseys up on that site. There are threads dedicated to counterfeits. I just wanted to inform everyone that EBay clearly has no clue what the difference between a counterfiet and a real jersey is. For all the people on here who complain about knockoffs being sold, you can't really fault them for at least trying to stop the sale of them. Sounds to me like you should've properly listed it instead of using a term like replithentic, which isn't even a real word. I've heard "replithentic" before (I think it's the NFL's equivalent of the "swingman style" jerseys). Not quite "authentic", but better than screened replica.That being said, nobody outside of people like us knows what that means, and it should absolutely draw questions, as it's a very confusing term for any average person browsing eBay. Should it have been pulled? Eh, probably not, but as someone else mentioned, people here get all pissed about ebay scammers mis-labeling "authentic" jerseys or selling counterfeits, so there's no reason to get upset about eBay taking action here to help consumers, even if they're not really addressing the real problem. It at least shows that they are doing something.Besides, there's a million better ways to advertise the jersey without using made up words. "Authentic replica", or "licensed replica", or "authentically-licensed replica", or... you get the point. It might be a cute slang term to use on a site like this but to the real world and the online market, it's not a real word and they took action because of the confusion you caused by trying to look like a jersey expert to laymen.If you want to sell something, list it accurately. Say it's a Nike Elite jersey and leave it at that. When you start making up words, not only are you less likely to get buyers, but you'll attract attention from E-Bay too.You may not be selling a counterfeit jersey but you're using counterfeit words.Clear and concise.
