Rite of Spring '14: Can you fall asleep with a panic switch?

If I was a Chicago fan, I'd still be pretty arrogant about my team's chances, until a challenger finally dethrones them. They'll take it in six. Now, let's all bask in the Admiral's clever insight and dbadefense's fanboy analysis.

With Crawford's disproportionately bad road record in the playoffs, and with the offense hitting the smelling salts, I'm slightly more confident heading back home.

I still don't get the pulling of the goalie at 5-2. I'm sorry, but that is just dumb. Whether you like it or not, this Kings team refuses to die. They seem to just wear their opponents down. It's kind of like Big 10 football of the past, just run, run, run and in the end the opponent doesn't have enough strength to resist.

I'm totally convinced the Kings are at their absolute best when they appear to be dead in the water.

I've thought for a while now that they basically need to be at DEFCON 5 to play their best hockey. Not good for their fans' sanity, but it sure beats just mailing it in, right?

I'd like to personally thank the Blackhawks for their play in the third. It inspired me to know that giving up in games is still done at the professional level.

This is thanks to Hollywood and their getting it backwards. I even got it wrong, until I looked it up one day. A lot of the Kings problems come from the fact that they have a young defense with Muzzin up with Doughty and Martinez still learning. Of course you now throw in the two rookies of Pearson and Toffoli and it can be good one game, bad the next. Now you throw the fact that their defense has been in flux during the playoffs and you're getting a very unpredictable team from game to game and even period to period. They're trying to figure out how to put it all together for a full 60 minutes and it's been that way the whole year. I think about 10 games all year including the playoffs, I've seen them play a full 60 minute game.

All of that very duly noted, That '70s Line has been pretty damn incredible in these first two games for LA and Toffoli in particular, damn, don't forget about taking that Regin goal off the goal line when it was 0-0. As far as I'm concerned, Toffoli was the #1 star in that game tonight.

Also don't forget about Quick displaying his elite lateral mobility to deny Seabrook on a 2-on-1 rush (with Versteeg) when Chicago was up 2-0. I'm not going to say that it turned the game around, but it did keep LA in the game when they were still in flux. A conversion off that rush would've probably been wraps on the game in favor of the 'Hawks; hell, even when it was 2-0, given LA's struggles with Chicago in recent years and Chicago's perfect home form, it still felt like an uphill task.

Lastly, there are few, if any, players in the NHL today more underrated than Justin Williams.

Plus unlike the Sharks, the Hawks offense doesn't pull disappearing acts in the playoffs.

I'm sorry, what was that again?

Thankfully Mitchell's back, so there's some more experience at the blue line.

I've found myself rooting for the Blackhawks, which surprises me. I think it's because most Blackhawks fans I know are smart, funny people, but mostly because we haven't had a true dynasty since the Red Wings of the late 90's/early2000's and sports history is better when eras are dominated by single teams (unless that team is from Boston or Pittsburgh).

Jeff Freaking Carter, of all people, records a hat trick. God I hate him.

The lesson there for the kids is that if you whine and complain and tank a team's season and future plans you get everything you've ever wanted.

Marty didn't quite do this but he did more than enough that he's basically torpedoed my ability to root for my bandwagon team this time around. I can't root for that guy to win a Cup at all. Sniveling little :censored: .

By "better" I meant more interesting. In thirty years nobody is going to give a :censored: about the 2006 Carolina Hurricanes, but dynasties like this one Chicago is writing are more fun to read and/or talk about.

Sustained greatness is more impressive than one year of getting it right at the right time.
