These things are too hard to do because there's a lot of teams with a lot of history and the answer might be different based on what generation you're asking.

For example, Sixers.

I think that unquestionably it is Dr. J. He has elite status among the all timers. However, there are some that would say Wilt Chamberlain, even though he's more known for the Phila Warriors than Sixers. There are also some who might say Charles Barkley, because the microscope focused on him once Doc retired.

Dr. J for me too. Without knowing how many years he spent with any one particular team, I picture Barkley as much as a Sun as I do a 76er. Younger people might even say Iverson.

As far as Charlotte goes, I say Muggsy. I don't think it could be Chris Paul since he's actively spending a chunk of his prime as a Clipper.

That's interesting. My first thoughts when I read the topic title were Doc, Stilt, and Charles. I didn't even think of Iverson until reading the last few posts, and I experienced his whole career. Maybe because he's such a sad story and wasn't a good representative of the team when he was around, I don't know. Regardless that shot of him stepping over Tyron Lue is probably the iconic image of his time in philly.

As for Barkley being a Sun, I think he's unquestionably a Sixer - that's where he became famous, was featured in controversial commercials, was on SI (which mattered back then) became marketable, and spat on a fan. It's where he made his name, even if he didn't experience the same success as in phoenix, but he didn't exactly win there either.

I wasn't a huge NBA fan growing up. For some reason I just picture him in that purple Suns uniform. I think that's just because they lost in the Finals that one year to the Bulls.

A lot of good/interesting choices for the Kings. C Webb, Bibby, Richmond, Jason Williams(?), and my first instinct is to pick Webber. None of the others are really even that close. Richmond is a nice choice, but the teams he was on really can't hold a candle to some of the Kings teams C Webb was a part of. But there's another interesting candidate out there who never even payed for the Kings. Kevin Johnson. He's from Sacramento, is the current mayor, and was crucial in saving the Kings from relocation to Anaheim and Seattle. If you walk into any sports shop in the city one of the first jerseys you'll see for sale is a Johnson Suns jersey. He may not be the perfect fit for face of the Sacramento Kings, but for the city of Sacramento, he's definitely #1, and he has had a big impact on that franchise.

Now for my nightly run. Might as well after all that stretching.

I don't think you're alone there. That's where he became "lovable Charles", and put the suns on the map, so it's a reasonable opinion even if I disagree.

* I know LeBron James is the most famous player to ever play for the Cavs but I don't think he can be the "All-Time Face" of the franchise after he left Cleveland the way he did. Therefore I will Dan Gilbert's whiny ass on there instead since his comic sans letter is the first thing I think about.

** I'm drawing blanks for Denver. I think of some of their cool jerseys more than actual players when I think about this team.

Boston Celtics: Bill Simmons :P

I'm sure he, Bob Ryan and Dan Shaughneesy will collaborate very soon on the 927th article on the Boston Globe as to why Boston sports fans are the most "tortured" in America.

Can't stand that smug and pretentiousness.

Alonzo Mourning is not the face of Charlotte. He is not liked around here at all. It's either Larry Johnson or Muggsy Bogues.

Larry Johnson is the first person that comes to mind when I think of Hornets 1.0, however he's a d1ck and Muggsy was just so little and lovable so let's go with him.

I think for non Nugget fans, the face of the Nuggets is Melo, but for Nugget fans, it has to be Alex English. I think Melo is hated to much to be the face of the Nuggets, similar to Lebron and Cleveland.

That's probably accurate. As a Nuggets fan, the idea of Melo as the face of the franchise makes me a bit queasy. I understand the way he left Denver was loads better than how Lebron left Cleveland or Dwight left Orlando (told us definitively a year in advance he wanted to leave, gave us time to make a trade, then the Knicks stepped in and gave us a great deal for him), but we still don't like him anymore. As for Alex English, he last played for the Nuggets the year I was born, but that said, he's automatically my answer for this. I don't know very much about him, but I can picture him in the rainbow skyline jerseys.

Overall nationally it's probably LJ. He was a stud player and looked like a surefire superstar until his back injury. Was also very popular from his Grandmama stuff and other advertisements. And those #2 jerseys everybody wore.

Locally, it's Muggsy. He is easily the most beloved locally. Doesn't hurt that he still lives in Charlotte.

Alonzo was another all star but he abandoned the team and then talked crap about Charlotte. He's always associated himself with Miami. Mourning-Charlotte is like McCants-UNC. Yeah, he was a great player & helped win some big games, but he isn't exactly liked or welcome around town.

But overall it's different for Charlotte. It's a small market team with a short history & minimal success in court. There's really no one player that stands out. For me, when I think of the old Hornets I think of two things.

1) Zo-LJ-Muggsy

2) Baron Davis
