Thrift Store Gems 2015

In what had to have been my 20th different Ross/TJ Maxx/Marshalls store visit around town, finally got some success in finding the current white US Men's soccer jersey. It really does make a fine polo/golf shirt that can be worn to work. Got it for $24.99. And it's an authentic!

Saw plenty of Brazil jerseys around town, a few Greece, and a couple other countries.

When did TJ Maxx/Marshalls/Ross become thrift stores? $20-40 for jerseys that couldn't sell at the mall aren't "thrift store gems," think Mitchell & Ness throwbacks at Salvation Army for $3

Having a "TJMaxx/Marshalls/Ross Gems 2015" thread would be redundant and unnecessary.

Made my weekly Ross run today and found:

1 purple, 1 white Jimmer Fredette Kings replica (both XL), 1 white Tyreke Evans Kings swingman (2XL) @ $12.99

1 black (XL), 1 yellow (L) Brazil @ $29.99

1 white Greece (XL) $17.99

1 blue/white striped Alianza Lima (Peru) XL, $29.99

Would really like to find the Greece shirt in a L, and was surprised by the Alianza shirt, but everything was too big!

The Ross in my town had an authentic white Greece jersey in L today.

I'd offer to PayPal you the cost and a couple bucks for shipping/your trouble, but I know if I did that, I'd find a L my next trip.

You're starting to get it ;) These aren't "finds" so much as overproduced, out-of-season items with demand so low that malls dump their excess inventory on discount stores.

To each his own. I, for one, am rather happy with my $30 current USMNT away shirt, and am appreciative of this thread as I'd never found it otherwise.

Ross is the only store these jerseys are sold in the city I live in, except maybe for World Cup years, so this thread is valuable to me. It lets me know when I should check what they have in stock.

I meant to post this the other day - but if we needed any more confirmation that TJMaxx et al. get shipments directly from Lids...

The red $15 stickers are Lids clearance stickers, if anyone is unfamiliar. The fact they didn't take them off is slightly amusing. At least they got the "compare to ____" tag right!

When I worked for Lids, we shipped these hats from the store back to the warehouse in April. No idea if ~3 months is normal turnaround time, or if TJ is putting NFL stuff out because the season is approaching. Who knows?

It's Genesco's bulk shipping methods that cause things like this. Most employees don't realize this, but Genesco now controls the source for the majority of sports apparel sales in the USA. I worked for awhile for the district manager in AZ and Seattle consulting with their warehouses and I was totally surprised to find that they are now (and have been for quite awhile) the suppliers for major department stores such as Macys and JC Penny's.

You won't find too many sports stores out there now that Genesco doesn't have some part in. Even stores like Fanzz and Pro Image (if that one even still exists), who are supposed to be their competition, get the majority of their gear from Genesco run warehouses.

It's one of the reasons why so many things Lids/Locker Room does are so downright :censored:ed up. They have ZERO real competition, and therefore, have absolutely no incentive to fix the MANY problems they have.

This thread gave me the information that helped me finally find the white Greece authentic last night at my local Ross. I found an M but wanted an L but as it turned out the M fit just fine. They also had the Brazil black 3d but in XL which I'd need to drink several cases of beer to be able to fit into. Also found a Toluca (Mexico) jersey in a local TJ Maxx Saturday which was interesting since the only time I've seen Mexican jerseys were in the stores in Tijuana.
