Rite of Spring '15: exhume our idols! bury our friends!

That Game 1 loss stings. Blowing a 3 goal lead at home. That just can't happen. I'll admit I was pulling for the Preds this series, but no shock whatsoever the Hawks won.

The Blackhawks have not looked sharp in goal at times this series.

I know they have so much talent, but at some point Darling/Crawford are gonna spring leaks. Hell, I'd take Dubnyk over them.

And they ALMOST took them to seven games with Mr. Humongous Big.

At some point, I think the mileage is going to get to Chicago.

They've sprung four leaks between them already. Do you watch the games or just bitch about them?

Hawks are going to the Western Conference Finals again. I don't see the winner of the St-Louis/Minnesota series having a chance against the Hawks. Neither of them.

But both of them are better than the Hawks. They have six defensemen each, for instance. They also don't have Kris Versteeg.

Aside from getting to chirp the gasconading dopes of Perd Nation, I feel no joy from this series win. No joy. It's just relief that the Blackhawks didn't get bounced in the first to a much greener team. Yeah, I know this was technically an upset, but let's not kid ourselves.

Agreed, mostly. This series win was mostly to save some dignity, but for the lack of defensemen and underperforming (and aging) aspects of the roster, they probably have done all they're capable of. Then again, this is coming from me. I'll probably read this sentence in a month and feel like an idiot. That tends to happen a lot.

This is the most scrambly, discord-wracked version of the Blackhawks I've seen in a spell. There's nothing methodical to their game, at least on the whole, that I've seen. It comes in bursts, where the planets will briefly align and suddenly OH MY GOD THEY'RE MACHINE-GUNNING SHOTS AND EVERYONE IS DEAD ON THE OTHER TEAM, but once the flood of life leaves the body, they're back to chase/whack/guess/repeat. (edit: the previous sequence may simply be the game of hockey and I'm just a moron)

Plus this whole goaltending thing isn't exactly the most fun to endure. It's infinitely better than some teams, absolutely, but it doesn't make it any less stressful.

Oh yes, and screw the Nashville Predators, one last time for good measure.

No, this is pretty much it. The Hawks haven't run a true possession offense since 2013. They don't suppress shots against, they struggle to gain blue lines and red lines, and have gotten progressively worse at taking guys off the puck and setting up transitions. They're basically a dementia patient with fleeting moments of clarity before they go back to forgetting their children's names or what toilets are for.

1. That is about as depressing as analogies get

2. What is the deal with the neutral zone becoming a waking hell for the Blackhawks? How many times in that series did they constantly try to force crappy 2-line passes or get physically reduced when trying to escort the puck in neutral ice? Watching them unable to use their speed due to the routine turnovers was exhausting, and worse yet - it was boring.

Side note: This bullcrap of waiting for the playoffs because "that's when Bickell becomes good" is deranged. He's big and can hit guys and stuff, but he's not gonna explode for 6 goals a series. He's getting outplayed by Kruger and Desjardins, even Brad Richards.

Yay Calgary!

I'd like one Ferland please.

But seriously, Gaudreau - Monahan - Hudler is one of the best lines in hockey right now. Calgary should give Anaheim a big run for their money.

I hope so.

Same, man. Should hopefully be a good series.

But man thats a shame for the Canucks. How much longer can Calgary keep this train ride going? I got to think the Ducks posession numbers due the job in round two.
