The_Admiral
Charles Bronson Guy is probably my favorite tertiary Simpsons character, if he can be called a single character at all: it's more that Charles Bronson Guy is a spirit that inhabits various unrelated people. She has occasionally tossed him info before it breaks and has always been pretty reliable/accurate. She told him last night that her "sources" say the Jags plan to move to London within the next 2-3 years. I don't think anyone had any misguided notions that the team was going to stay in Jacksonville once Wayne Weaver sold them. St. Louis was the projected landing point when the Rams left, now it's London based on what Shalid Khan has been up to. But I don't think that team moving anywhere would be all that big a surprise. Khan just had to give it enough time to say, "Hey, I tried to make things work in Jacksonville, but this team can't be economically competitive with the other 31 here," without looking like, well, a Stan Kronke (sp?) The_Admiral
If they move, they need to leave their snappy American name back home (y'know, for the future Jacksonville Jaguars franchise that will never come) and take on a new name like Scruffingford Lane AFC or Turdlington Rovers. ♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

Whether they could make money is another story; that depends on matters that we don't have access to. But they could fill any stadium in any city in North America, including cities that already have NFL teams.

BBTV
1PM east coast games start at 7PM London time, so while not ideal, that's workable. They could even start one game a week at noon or something if it helps. What do you do when the Raiders FC United is on the west coast? An 11 AM start would be 8PM London time - don't think you can start any later than that. Can you start a game at 10 AM local time? Looks like there's only a small window where daylight savings doesn't overlap, so that's probably not much of an issue. Wings
That's one hell of a division: Houston, Indianapolis, Tennessee and London. Or you can realign them to the AFC East and we get the match up the world has been waiting for: New England Patriots vs. London Silly Nannies. FiddySicks
I’ve always thought the Patriots should move to London and just drop the “New” from their name. Lil Duval and one of the kids who survived Colombine are the only two Jags fans in existence that I am aware of. Never in my life have I met a Jags fan nor can I recall ever running into anyone on the streets rocking some Jags gear. If and when Khan moves the team (more when at this point) I sadly don’t foresee much of an uproar. Even with all of Jacksonville’s growth it’s still only the 40th largest metro area in the country with a ton of transplants, and in that region, you’re going head to head with college football for entertainment dollars. I’m not usually an advocate of teams moving, but if I was in Kahn’s shoes I’d probably be looking to pull the plug to.
SFGiants58
In all honesty, blowing an expansion slot on Jacksonville was a terrible idea. Trying to replicate Green Bay’s success as a small market without understanding the Packers’ specific circumstances (drawing on Milwaukee and the whole of Wisconsin as the state’s only team) led to a mess. If the NFL had given the expansion team to St. Louis, Baltimore, or Memphis/Nashville, a lot of later troubles could have been avoided. Wings
The NFL nowadays does absolutely nothing right so it's an idiotic inevitability that the Jags will end up in London or even worse, the 4/4 split (4 games in Jax. 4 games in London). Wings
Giving St. Louis another shot with the Jags in a new stadium could work, I think. Geographically Houston, Indianapolis, St. Louis & Tennessee would be a nice little division.

Jacksonville was a misunderstanding, but I don't think it was in quite that way. I know what you're talking about, that boosters were referring to it as being "the Green Bay of the South" in terms of being too small for the league but making up for it in passion, but I think the feeling was that Jacksonville would eventually be the next Sun Belt boomtown -- quick look at the census figures shows their population grew by about 18% over the 1980s -- like Charlotte, Raleigh, and Nashville were. Obviously, that didn't work out, but it was probably more about getting in on the ground floor of something big than immediately resigning themselves to smallest-of-small-market status. The expansion slot absolutely should have gone to one of the aforementioned, preferably Baltimore. ♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

Jacksonville had arguably the best ownership group at the time of the bids and they were one of the few cities that could guarantee a state of the art NFL ready stadium by ‘95. It can’t be understated how big having that stadium was for their bid. Without that stadium, I doubt they would have even been allowed to submit a bid. That said, even at the time Jacksonville was considered an odd choice. The small market size was downplayed because Jacsonville was and still is a growing city. I also think a lot of people in the NFL took it for granted that they would be able to convert college football fans to NFL fans, because football is football. If you like them in college, why wouldn’t you want to see them in the pros? But when the team was good in the late 90’s-early 2000’s and still couldn’t get much National support, red flags should have been going up then.
