The Chiefs could leave Kansas City…..Missouri. They’d go to KCK over by the Speedway at worst. As far as the Royals? Maybe they do go to Nashville? Maybe these teams actually try to come up with a competent plan that doesn’t rely on recent championships or radically change the second any resistance is encountered? Or hell, maybe don’t hire people from failed Presidential campaigns to run a campaign. Crazy idea, I know. Nah, it was the  KC Tenants who hacked this totally winnable election, not big money thinking that they didn’t have to compete and that winning was their birthright.

So what exactly is going on with the Chiefs off the field?  They were ranked last in many categories by the NFLPA Report card and now stadium renovations are voted down.  At least the on the field stuff is first class

Right? Imagine the campaign the Royals ran and then having to blame KC Tenants for the loss? How pathetic would you have to be to do that. A poor plan is a poor plan, its just more egregious when it costs 2 billion dollars.

Everything I’ve seen from the Chiefs, Royals and KC Tenants makes me feel like Beavis and Butthead beat billionaires even dumber than them.

Here's the NFLPA survey on the Chiefs:

The Royals situation is not dire.  Kauffman is a great stadium.  They are not going to relocate anywhere.

All that will happen is they come back again with a different proposal.

The catch-22 I see is that people who will say that the Royals don't deserve this because they aren't competitive, yet in my opinion they need a stadium that draws more revenue to become more competitive.

They’d get more support if they made a good faith effort to compete every year, not just when they need a new stadium. Or if they just didn’t say “concrete cancer”.

As a fan of KC sports teams, I've been really impressed with the Royals' downtown stadiums plans.  I think it would be a good thing for the team and would help them be more successful as a small-market team.  Like it or not the suburban stadium they play in is just not very compatible with modern economics.

Is this like how the Bears' extremely downtown stadium isn't compatible with modern economics and need a suburban stadium to be successful?

I’ve never been to the Atlanta airport, but that’s mostly because the furthest south I’ve been is St. Louis and I never fly Delta.

Pn the CCSLC airport rankings, how does Atlanta fare compared to Denver, O’Hare, and Sky Harbor (to name a few I’ve been to on layovers)?

Of the airports you mentioned, the only one I've been to is St. Louis and it was fine. No issues. I've been through Atlanta more times than I can remember and I've never had a problem. Hartfield-Jackson is big and it's busy, but it's very easy to navigate. If you have at least an hour between flights and you shouldn't have a problem. If you have more than an hour there is enough stuff to keep you from getting too bored.

I've connected in Atlanta a few times, never departed. It feels like a sprawlier O'Hare such that you pretty much need to take the people mover anywhere. I had to jog a bit to make a plane home once. O'Hare, for being one of the busiest airports in the world, always seems to get me through check-in and security very quickly. Sometimes you hit a vein of absolute solitude and you're through in almost an instant.

Isn't ATL the busiest airport in the US due to how it's a hub for multiple airlines?  I'm not sure how it's possible to not have connected there at least once, unless you're just not a frequent traveler (and even then, unless you live near another major hub where there's direct flights to everywhere, it's tough.)

It's been 18 years since I was last there (and I'm a pretty-frequent traveler, albeit internationally) and it was among the worst experiences I've ever had, just due to the sheer size of it and overall disorganization.  Connecting from point a to b took seemingly an hour (it was probably less, but it felt like an hour) over the tram (which was not where the signs pointed to) and then multiple walkways, and staff that was clearly overworked, likely underpaid, and not helpful.

Of course, everyone has different experiences and different opinions about everything.  I happen to really like EWR, not just because there's more direct flights than many other airports, but it's among the most convenient airports to get to via multiple train lines and reasonable shuttles (and has cheap parking if you buy ahead), and even through some extreme renovations, I've never had an issue knowing where I need to go and avoiding large queues.  That's probably a minority opinion.  I think PHL has improved 100% in the past 10 years and I really like flying from there too, but if there's a choice between a direct from EWR or a connecting flight from PHL (which may even be EWR), I'll pay the same - maybe even slightly more - and take the train up to EWR.

But to the point about "knowing about Atlanta if not for sports", I think there's enough famous businesses based there, and celebs that have come from there, to make it known to the average person (even if not front-of-mind like it is to sports fans.)

According to Google, ATL is the busiest airport in the world.

Side note: Minneapolis Airport has a Prince store.

Not to get too off topic here, but ATL doesn't "feel" like a big airport, let alone the world's busiest. It just feels like a bunch of small/midsized airports mashed together and connected by PlaneTrain.

It has nowhere near the gravitas of a place like Hong Kong, Dubai, Heathrow, etc.

I look forward to seeing if the River Cats can outdraw the A's over those 3-4 years. I suspect year 1, with the novelty of (what is technically) an MLB team, will draw some crowds at first.

According to Front Office Sports:

Quote

The MLBPA didn’t immediately release a comment on the future setup after the A’s announcement. A union spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

For a union as powerful as the MLBPA, they have been very silent on the whole A's relocation.
