It's wild how much this simple change to the pants improves the uniform:

(I think orange over white like this is another good combo for them).

Do this pants alteration except don’t curve the bottom, continue it straight down the leg. Then wear the orange and black striped pant with the black and orange jerseys and leave the white and black striped pants only for the white jersey.

Personally, I think the Bengals should only wear the following combinations as they are all dynamite:

I know people have this weird thing agains “monochrome”, but the Bengals in black jerseys and pants with the striped helmets and orange socks is one of the best looking football uniforms I’ve ever seen. That has to be included because it

looks fantastic.

My GOODNESS does that look good.

And things like this are why i personally take socks into consideration for monochrome.

This looks good, and the orange breaks up the "mono". But all black? no thank you.

That really is one of the sharpest sets in all of football.

Man did the Bengals nail it 90% of the way with this update...the only part I don't care for are the Nemo pants. (Or the unnecessarily angled cuts in some of the numbers--but that's somewhat of a smaller offense to my typographically critical eyes.) But that to the side, they really don't have a bad combination...so long as they keep to contrasting socks. That said, I don't think they've done white top/white pant/orange socks yet; I'm curious how that would look to bookend the orange helmet.

But yes, overall I'd rank Cincinnati's identity among the top tier of NFL looks...probably right up there with the Chargers in terms of certifiable uniqueness and distinctiveness (?).

I mean, he’s not entirely wrong. What happened to Tua should be the center of a very long discussion. A discussion that should’ve already happened well before Thursday night.

As far as the uniform violations, there’s a reason for rules set in place regarding uniformity among players. Ramsey just decided to be “that guy” and is paying for it. Literally.

thought i did add my other comments here, but ooops i didnt.

Yes, safety NEEDS to be 100% the first issue. But, you're also part of a TEAM and need to dress as a TEAM. you have a uniform, wear it correctly. They should stop fining them and not let them play unless they're dressed properly.

Shield: We will fine you $10000 if you wear the wrong socks.

Ramsey: Okay.

Ramsey: *wears the wrong socks*
Shield: We are fining you $10000.

Ramsey: Wtf this league is evil??

The league is allowed to have standards for a professional image, and the fines for breaking that are exorbitantly high because they’re not supposed to be paid. They know that players will just pay the toll weekly to go crazy if the fine was too low, so they make it so that all you gotta do is wear the same socks as the rest of your team, then you don’t have to pay $10000. It’s so easy. Yet Ramsey consciously chooses to pay it week after week and not only trashes the league for it, but brings the pressing leaguewide safety concern into the conversation.

These two things were never meant to be thought about in the same sentence. Yes, the league cares too much about ratings to look out for the safety of its players, and also Jalen Ramsey cares way too much about how the space between his knees and ankles looks to not allow ten stacks to drain from his bank account on a weekly basis. There’s literally zero correlation. That he would use everybody’s worrying over the health and well-being of Tua Tagovailoa to draw attention to his little hosiery crusade is asinine and utterly tasteless, yet everybody’s gonna read into it like “eww the NFL really cares more about the players SOCKS than their SAFETY.”

This will have to reach a breaking point eventually. Either the league is going to have to just undeclare socks as part of the uniform and let the players go free-for-all with their individuality concerns, or they will have to crack down and bring back uniformity. If the classic hose setup truly isn’t comfortable enough for the players to perform their best, then the league seriously must come up with a surrogate performance wear that mimics the aesthetic that they are fining players left and right for not adhering to. What an avoidable mess from all angles.

Has he been concussed a few times?

1. The fact that they have a person who's job it is to enforce the uniform code and fine players has less than no impact at all on the league's ability to focus on player safety.  Ramsey apparently doesn't understand that big companies can work on multiple things at once, and if player safety isn't being focused on enough, it has nothing at all to do with him being fined for his socks.

2. He really comes off as unintelligent.  OF COURSE they're monetizing your "swag" and making money off of what you wear.  That's literally their job - to make money - and then use that money to pay you.   He's a dummy and just wants attention.  I have no problem with someone wanting attention, but this is kind of a dumb way to go about it.

Reminds me of all the people online who love saying "You spent time on this new uniform, how about you spend time WINNING GAMES???" as though Sean McVay is the one that designs them.

People who want to be haters will gladly come across as idiots if it means being a hater.

All these weird uniform permutations have their roots in Color Rush, a marketing program the NFL didn't need, which it rolled out for Thursday Night Football, a television property the NFL didn't need. The league's aesthetic problems and safety problems thus go hand in hand. The NFL should be idiotproofing its uniforms against Jalen Ramsey and also shouldn't be letting Tua get two concussions in five days.

I’m still of the opinion that the Bengals should’ve only changed jerseys. Their pants stripes from from last set were perfect as-is(was?).

Except they had these weird little segments at the top that were colored differently from the rest of the stripes

I know it was meant for being an extension of the side panels, but it still fits the overall design of the new jerseys

As kitschy as the old wordmark may have been, I don't think the modified Trade Gothic Italic or whatever they replaced it with has been an improvement. If they've more or less left the uniforms alone, they may as well have hung onto that, too. Were the new stencils lost in the flood, is this supposed to cheer people up, what's the deal?

I think this looks better.

I know everyone here in Charlotte loves the throwback word mark, but I appreciate the cleaner more modern look.

This is coming from someone who normally hates when teams simplify their word marks ie the Timberwolves.
