MLB Regular Season 22: The Thread

Giants finished at 81-81, which is the first .500 finish in their 104 year history. They also finished 26(!) games worse than last season.

I realize that last year they played WAY above their heads basically all year, and that they had some losses in the off season, but that’s really not a good sign for Farhan. If they don’t go out and spend some money this off season instead of just trying to build up a team on the waiver wire scrap heap, it’s probably going to be time to move on from him.

It sounds like they’re going to be very much in the hunt for Aaron Judge, but I can’t honestly see any way that happens. Even if he did grow up in Linden (east of Stockton, CA. Near Sacramento), the Giants have been real cheap asses, and I can’t see them pulling out a bigger deal than the Yankees will offer for him. And even if they do, I could see the Dodgers go out and overpay significantly just to troll the Giants, in a sense.

I don't think the Dodgers will be in on Judge. Trea Turner will be their top priority and, along with Betts's contract, are gonna be close to maxed out when you figure they're gonna have to pay some of these younger players eventually.

So what type of baseball games do you guys prefer? A pitchers duel?  A blowout?  A low scoring close game (like the final is 2-1 or 3-2) or a high scoring close game? (the final is like 11-10 or 9-7).

My main preference is a high scoring close game, but if there's someone on the verge of a no hitter or perfect game and the game is either a blow out, a low scoring close game or even a pitchers duel, I am interested.

How many teams can afford Judge?

Two.

Do the Dodgers really need Judge?

Nah.

My take on the whole Aaron Judge thing was that his home run chase didn't interest me.  Now then if he had been hovering around 70 heading into the final week of the season, I would have had interest.  Other than high scoring close games and no hitters/perfect games, another thing that attracts me to baseball would be the chase for a single season MLB record.

When I was a kid, Cecil Fielder was the first player I ever "saw" hit 50 HR.  Previous to him, it was George Foster, which was before my time.  I remember at 13 thinking how incredible 50 was, and how unbelievable 60/61 was, and that I'd never in my lifetime see it.  Then smaller parks and expansion lead to higher numbers among the clean guys, and obviously the steroids lead to absurd numbers by those guys.  And they just ruined it.  I feel very confident that unless there's another wave of new parks that are even more hitter friendly, or they expand to the point where there's even more lousy pitchers, or they move the mound back, we'll never see a "clean-ish" player hit 70.  Judge just had one of the best seasons ever and just barely got to 62.  I simply can't fathom anyone even sniffing 73.

I remember I couldn't wait to get the next year's baseball cards just so I could see the "51" on Fielder's, because that's what made it "real" to me.  If it wasn't on a baseball card, it didn't happen lol.
