Huh. I didn't realize Sosa has three 60-homer seasons. Is that guy in the hall of fame?

They let Big PEDy David Ortiz thru the doors. Sosa should be there too.

This is pretty much where I lost interest in baseball. And I just knew they were going to do that, as well. This sport has become such an absolute farce.

David Ortiz tests positive in the 2003 anonymous PED screening.

David Ortiz doesn't test positive before or after that '03 test.

David Ortiz gets the red carpet treatment at Cooperstown.

Sammy Sosa tests positive in the 2003 anonymous PED screening.

Sammy Sosa never tests positive before or after that '03 test.

Sammy Sosa is blackballed form MLB and never sniffs Cooperstown.

Genuine question that I'm curious about and haven't seen a clear answer for elsewhere: was Mark McGwire ever caught or did he ever admit to taking anything except the androstenedione, which wasn't banned by MLB (though it was by the ADA, NFL and IOC) and classified as a steroid by the US government until after he retired, that he was reported as using in 1998? I know he's since admitted to taking "steroids" but that on its own is a bit vague, IMO.

Sammy Sosa isn't even in the Cubs' Hall of Fame!  Clearly, there's more to it than just stats with Sosa.

Maybe he wasn't a good teammate?

And if you think about it MLB was harsher with Sosa for having a corked bat than a positive steroid test.

There’s been an evolution in ways players tried to get ahead and picking one arbitrary goal post is just disingenuous. Imagine what Cobb’s stats would have been if he didn’t intentionally try to wound infielders with sharpened spikes

The Reds will also have the lowest attendance ever in Great American Ball Parks history. Coming into the final three game series with the Cubs, only 1,358,304 fans have come through the gates this year, down nearly 1 million fans in the parks first year in 1993, and the lowest attended Reds season since 1984 when only 1,275,887  fans came to Riverfront Stadium to see a 92 loss team. Fans have definitely made their actions clear.  "Where you gonna go?", clearly to Bengals, Bearcats, FCC, and even the MLB partner league Florence Y'alls. The Y'alls attendance was up this year compared to last. 107,877 fans showed up to a shorter season minor league team in a smaller park outside of Cincinnati. An average of 2, 158 per game, up last year from 1,555 (ballpark seats 4,500)

Yeah that's what I was getting at. I was not one of those 1,358,304 fans this season and I won't add my 1 for the game this afternoon. First season I haven't been to a single Cincinnati Reds game since I think 1992. Ten years ago I went to over 30. I did go to 4 FCC games and I've already been to 1 of the Bengals games. It's important to me that Phil knows he f***ed up and to do my part to make sure he never tries anything like that again. I don't suffer that sh** he said on opening day. You don't destroy a playoff team and then tell me to be grateful we have a team at all, then declare me a bad fan for not coming to the ballpark.

I kind of can't believe even that many went to games this season. They out-drew Cleveland, even. I expect a lot of season tickets won't be renewed and next year will be worse attendance if the team isn't markedly better on the field. I feel bad for guys like Hunter Greene and Nick Lodolo who won't know Cincinnati as anything other than quarter full and apathetic unless they're part of the team to things turn around, which feels less likely than the likelihood of them getting traded off for prospects in 2025.

At least they avoided tying the franchise loss mark last night? They can still clinch their second ever 100 loss season with an L this evening and I haven't decided if I'm rooting for that or not. 100 losses has a weight of stink to it that 99 just doesn't.

Im surprised Greene and Lodolo are still with the team.  They'll probably be gone next year. They are starting to get good and when that happens the Reds can "no longer afford them" so we trade them for some unknown guy stuck in the system to build up until its time to trade them too.

Sammy's corked bat was really bad optics at the time, but it's been proven and is now very well known corked bats have zero effect on how far a baseball travels.

Why he's not honored by the Cubs, doesn't have his jersey retired? If i had to speculate, it's because Sammy lied the ownership about his HGH exploits and hard/awkward feelings have just carried over to present-day.

The effort to cheat is damning, even if he cheated poorly.

Sammy was all about Sammy, thus the destruction of his boombox when he walked out on the team prior to game 162. It was his music, no questions asked, and it pissed off seemingly the rest of the team in that little clubhouse.

It's where I sit.

I think it's largely that. Compare with David Ortiz being a beloved teammate, generally on good terms with his FO, his public leadership after the Marathon bombing...

I'm not saying it's fair or reasonable, but the HOF people love a bit of tone-policing and kissing of the ring and patting themselves on the back.

Yeah, it's why Curt Schilling isn't in the Hall of Fame.

He has the numbers for it. but no one wants to vote for him because he's a POS.

Maybe it's just time to do away with HOFs.  Not the museum aspect of it, but the notion of enshrining individual players.  Have Bonds' bat from 73, Babe's uniform, hell - even a needle if you want.  You can tell the story of the game without having a bunch of plaques of old players.

And honestly - how many HOFers wouldn't have anything worth displaying?  Does Harold Baines have anything in the HOF other than his bust?  If not, maybe that's an indicator that he shouldn't have been let in.
