The shocking news coming out of the players selected: this is the first ever Olympic team for Steph Curry.  So he was considered for the 2016 team but withdrew due to injuries.

LA is toast against Denver, so I'll take my wins where I can get them: Lakers win and Warriors lose. Not bad.

Shame the Thunder ended up with the 1 seed instead of the Nuggets. Denver stacks up best against the Lakers than any other team in the west. LA would have been perfect against OKC.

Four titles in 6 years is about as good as it gets.

And knowing the Warriors, they'll somehow land Giannis or Donovan Mitchell or both and start it all over again.

Giannis or Luka will be a Laker once LeBron calls it a career.

It was a good run and I'm legally not allowed to complain about the Warriors for at least a decade. But still, it's clear that the rebuilding has to begin.

I doubt it, but Steph and a new partner could maybe make it work. Big maybe. It's clear that Draymond is still a liability and Klay should probably have not bet on himself, while Bob Myers leaving probably sealed the fate of this era of the team. Let the rebuild begin.

The hope is that Luka ends up like Dirk Nowitzki and play his entire career with Dallas.  I think that he and Kyrie will play together for the entire duration of Kyrie's contract with the Mavericks (which I think is three years).

As for the Warriors?  They have 2019 New England Patriots vibes right now.

Man, every league just abandoning a centuries worth of moral ideology to link up with the gaming industry sure is going great, isn’t it?

Adam Silver banning Donald Sterling made franchise values quadruple. How will terrible people benefit from this one?

No miracle run from the Heat this year.

What a weird year.  After striking out on Dame in the offseason we mostly stood pat and didn't get a whole lot worse, then Jaquez/Jovic turned out to be studs and we flipped Lowry for Terry Rozier, So on paper this was an upgraded roster from a team that made the Finals.

During the season, some rotation guy was always hurt, but we weren't exactly lighting the world on fire when healthy. We found ourselves in the play-in in the crowded lower half of the East, same spot we started the run last year and it just dies as soon as it begins.

Would we have made another Play-In to Finals run fully healthy? Regular season performance says no, but that's what I thought last year.

Very unsure what to make of this ending.  No clue if we were health away from making another run, or if this is just a plain mediocre 7th seed.

i have unquantifiable corpses on my conscience

That's a bummer. It also comes down to who's healthiest and every season, one key guy just misses the playoffs or is out of the Finals altogether.

Zion and Jimmy both sustaining significant injuries in the "play-in tournament" really rubs me the wrong way. The suits will cry, why can't we get our star players playing more often? Well, stop setting up traps that get them hurt in fake-important games to miss the games people actually care about.

When the play-in was first announced, I think it would only include the 8 and 9 seeds, and the winner would advance.

Including the 7 seed seems unfair. Going from the 7 to potentially out of the playoffs altogether is a huge, huge disadvantage. Especially if, like the Pelicans, they finished 2-3 games ahead of the other seeds.

Similarly, the In Season Tournament needs to mean more. The Lakers and Pacers played an extra game with stats that didn't count, and a trophy that kind of doesn't mean anything. I don't think you should guarantee a seed to the IST, but that was an actual game that actually happened. Maybe it's a tiebreaker? A win that cancels out a loss?

I’m not sure if there’s any way to incentivize the IST, but what baffles me is that I just learned that the play-in games aren’t considered post-season, so those stats truly go nowhere. If you score 101 points in the game, do you now hold the NBA record? They’re basically considered exhibitions from a statistical perspective.

All IST games except the finals count as part of the regular season, at least according to the IST site.

that’s relevant if I was talking about the IST.

But I guess maybe the finals would also apply to my point.

Rough week for Nuggets star Michael Porter Jr., his brother Jontay gets banned from the NBA for life while his other brother Coban gets a six year prison  sentence for a drunken driving accident that killed a woman.
