Can you handle this version? Can everyone untwist their knickers and get on with their lives? I won't wait. I think people would get used to it and admire the players' creativity even once the novelty wears off. Yes. Yes it would be different. Hockey is focused mostly on the center of the ice and out. Goalies wear custom masks, but the way we watch hockey makes it so it’s not a constant distraction because it’s such a background item. With baseball, all of our attention is focused on the pitcher, hitter, and catcher. It would change from being a background item to be a central focus, and I think there would be several problems with that from the league’s standpoint. I get the spirit of your idea, and I actually like it a lot. But good luck ever getting MLB to approve it full time. Teams have been known to kick opposing fans out of behind the plate seats because it’s always in focus, and they figure is a bad look. 1 Quote On 11/19/2012 at 7:23 PM, oldschoolvikings said: She’s still half convinced “Chris Creamer” is a porn site.) This is all correct, but when I’m the commissioner, in addition to exploding balls and other shenanigans, superstar players can have their own “signature” bats that make them more like superheroes. You want a war hammer? Cool. A light saber? Knock yourself out. Tattoo-style airbrushed skulls and/or topless women? If it’s a streaming game and not on a network, fine with me! It’s all part of their branding, like Acuña’s yellow things, Harper’s ever-changing cleats, etc. But only the stars. So maybe you have to have an MVP to earn this right. Not every ham-and-egger should get to come to the plate with some custom stick as if he’s anybody. *as a traditionalist, I’m against any of this stuff and wish the game went back to looking more uniform, but as a pragmatist, those days are long gone and now it’s a matter of containing rather than preventing. Marlins93
The Marlins had one of the very best City Connect designs, but I'm so turned off and jaded by the City Connect concept and pretty much everything Nike is doing as a company, that I don't even care anymore. It's a simply "whatever" decision for me to retire them. Call me old and anti-fun, but there's just something gross about these jerseys existing pretty much for the sole purpose of generating revenue. Mothballing and rotating them gives fans "fresh designs," sure, but it's fundamentally all about Nike's cash flow. And tempting fans to hand over more and more money for whatever is "new" even if the design is lacking. I could stomach it a little more if 80% of the designs weren't either total garbage or just lazy & boring. Money has always been a big factor in logo and uniform design, but for the longest time it was more about establishing a franchise brand identity. That's why you'd see relative consistency in uniform designs for stretches of years. Now it's all about bombarding us with gimmicks and limited edition design concepts to entice fan into handing over excessive amounts of money for poorly-made products manufactured at a fraction of the price. I could not be more checked out from City Connect. Really apathetic to whatever designs come and go, entirely for the purpose of appeasing Nike's shareholders.

WBeltz
I read on the mothership that they're on both sides. Is that based on the batter? So if a RH is up its on the left side of his helmet, and vice versa for a LH?

There's so many ads on sports broadcasts now that it's getting too noisy to watch. The NBA Finals, there were so many YouTubeTV ads (I already effing have it! Can I opt out of the overlays?!) that it was claustrophobic trying to follow the action. Gotta love end-stage capitalism! 2 1

I strongly disagree with the first highlighted section. I think the Orioles look much better with orange script, The black just looks too dark in my opinion. I'm torn on the second part. The double outlined version from the mid-90s always looked too busy to me. A single white outline is better, but I don't think it is absolutely necessary. Overall on this topic, I would be surprised if the Orioles made substantial changes to their uniforms. David Rubenstein appears more determined to embrace Orioles history and tradition than to make changes just for the sake of making his mark. 6 Quote Most Liked Content of the Day -- February 15, 2017, August 21, 2017, August 22, 2017 ///// Proud Winner of the CCSLC Post of the Day Award -- April 8, 2008 Originator of the Upside Down Sarcasm Smilie -- November 1, 2005

I never liked it and that is exactly why. The classic swinging bird in the roundel is all they need . . . maybe with a cleanup to match the cap logo, but I don't think that is necessary. 3 1 Quote Most Liked Content of the Day -- February 15, 2017, August 21, 2017, August 22, 2017 ///// Proud Winner of the CCSLC Post of the Day Award -- April 8, 2008 Originator of the Upside Down Sarcasm Smilie -- November 1, 2005

Like Colorado, Anaheim debuted their City Connect in 2022, so they would be eligible for a new design. It's a shame because I really like the Angels' set, but I can see them wanting to go in a very different direction this time around now that the Dodgers have their own cream-colored look.

David Rubenstein appears more determined to embrace Orioles history and tradition than to make changes just for the sake of making his mark. When referencing the 1999 script, I was talking about the version with what I call the "low" first "i" in Orioles, not advocating for a return to black over orange lettering on the home jersey. Here's a version from a minor league pullover BP jersey. (It's not perfect--the middle "o" is a bit larger than it should be) but IMO works better than the current, "high i" script. As to the black jerseys, replacing the black outline with white would be a step in the right direction, but I still love the O/B/W script. Honestly, I'm sorry I dropped my original post on a "slow news day". People took it out of context and then ran off a cliff with it. The reactions were amusing for about 20 seconds, but quickly became completely irritating. Oh, well...
