So Lions OC Ben Johnson informed both the Commanders and Seahawks that he intends to stay in Detroit.

The part that has DC Sports Media in a frenzy is that he supposedly informed the Commanders right before they were set to be in-route for a final interview with him.

Apparently this is seen as a “red flag” and the “team never needed him to begin with” and “such a terrible look on Johnson” for doing this.

Its not the guy’s fault for taking a step back and realizing he’s probably in a very comfortable position with his current team.

He probably realized that 1) Josh Harris is a lousy person to root for and that franchise is still not set up in a way to allow him to succeed, 2) Pete Carroll's continued presence (in whatever capacity) would loom over him in Seattle, 3) he'd ignore 1 and 2 if someone paid him the salary of a 15-time SB winner, but obviously that's not happening, and 4) it's very likely that Dallas, Philadelphia, and maybe a few other higher-profile jobs will be open next year.

I will never blame someone from striking while the iron is hot and cashing that check,, but long term, how many young-hotshot coordinators that fizzle out in their first HC job (even if it was because they entered a lousy situation with a crap org) get second chances?  Long term, it's probably better to wait for an opening on a team with a stable ownership situation, a history of competence, and a support system that gives you the best chance to succeed.   Seattle should be that, but Washington is certainly not.

That, or he just didn't like either team's uniforms.

I laughed so hard when I saw that report a day or two ago. That said, I will give ol' Artie this credit: he did figure out how to run an offense during the second half of the Snatit's 2021 season. You might recall that was the season in which they dressed like 93 players because everyone including King Henry kept getting hurt which had D'Onta Foreman step in (outgoing Adrian Peterson in the process) for the King and do damage. So perhaps with Najee Harris in Pittsburgh ol' Artie can figure it out again.

That won't help them with those quarterbacks, though, unless Pickett has a 1998 Trent Dilfer lightbulb season and goes beserk on 'em...

That'd be Clint Hurtt. With a name like that, you got to be a DL or D-line coach some kind of way...

his hire is probably why the Seahawks will keep Geno Smith.  A veteran QB like Geno can deal with having multiple offensive play callers in multiple years better than a rookie can, which is probably what will happen if Seattle has a successful offense and the OC leaves to be a head coach.

I heard somewhere that Micah Parsons is super loyal to Quinn and said he wants to follow him. I can’t remember where I heard or read it so take it with a complete grain of salt.

Mike Vrabel taking a year off is something.  I wonder if he will be commentating games or if he would be good at it.

Ryan Day's seat might combust if Ohio State doesn't have an undefeated type of season with that roster.

Serious Q: Who takes a risk next year (or any year going forward) on Bill Belichick? He will be approaching 75 years old and tack another year of rust built on top of his sad, final years in New England. His head coaching years might actually be over.

He had is legendary run. It's over. No team in their right mind should let him near their personal/draft.

Vrabel seems to me like a guy who doesn't want to deal with NIL or the Transfer Portal on a daily basis.
