BBTV
You know, come to think of it, I don't believe seals get as far south as Anaheim. Matter of fact, I don't believe Anaheim has any coastline whatsoever. Are seals the same as sea-lions? If so, I saw a ton of them when I was in San Diego last summer. I went to a beach in La Jolla where part of it was overrun with them. GeorgesL
That name actually does sound a lot more appealing than the Mighty Ducks. Now that you mention it, Mighty Ducks sounds more like a pee-wee team more and more than a professional team.I suppose it's one of those fads that just fade away....like the Spice Girls. winters in buffalo
The Name Ducks is not bad if they drop Mighty Agreed. I originally thought the disney name was silly. But "Ducks" on its own is pretty unique.
rmered
... NHL sources said Samueli likely would seek the NHL's permission to rename the club, maybe turning to the gold and green California Golden Seals uniforms to spark merchandise sales. Hmmm... the NHL sources' claim seems to fly in the face of Mr. Samueli's own comments in the February 26th edition of the Los Angeles Times."We like the name Mighty Ducks and certainly see no compelling reason to change it. If the fans want to change, we'll change it."So, are we to believe that in the nearly three weeks since his statement was published, Mr. Samueli has been inundated with requests from Southern California hockey fans to specifically change the team's name to the Golden Seals? If we accept the information from NHL sources, it would seem as though Mr. Samueli is attempting to "play both ends against the middle". He initially said that he and his wife liked the current name, presumably to placate fans of the existing identity. Meanwhile, he was already floating the idea of a change past the folks at the NHL's properties division. Almost exactly what Michael Heisley said about keeping his newly purchased NBA tema in Vancouver."We love it here, we want to keep the team here. And if the fans buy season tickets and want us to stay, we will."I think it was about 6 months later they announced the move to Memphis. I like the name since it Guy Herbert eliminated teh Wings in the 90's and JSG beat the Stars in 2003. Super Duck I hated, but Golden Seals, please. Why? Are white skates next? Roger Clemente
Think about this for a second, people. There is two reasons why this shouldn't happen:1. They are God's team.2. If you change the team name, you won't be able to make the greatest rhyme of all time:"The Greatest Team Of All Time:The Mighty Ducks Of Anaheim."Well, the name can change I suppose, but don't touch the logos or jerseys, (for the sole reason that I can't think of anything else that might work for them as great as they currently do.)--Roger "Time?" IronChefShark
the "Seals" name should not be used anywhere in the NHL. the only way it would make a comeback is if it was used by a team based in either San Francisco or Oakland, and we all know that will not happen anytime soon.can we go a year without an Anaheim team going through a million name changes please?
