CFL Jerseys unveiling today!

Recommended Posts

In any case, I've found CFL fans to be far less interested in the particulars of team logos, shirts, and other merchandise than our American football counterparts. Not saying CFL fans are apathetic, it's just that I always find we are more flexible to change on issues off the field.

Can you blame them when the CFL makes boneheaded branding moves like this?

The NFL is a branding machine that knows the importance of their identity property. They protect them well and market them very well.

The CFL has yet to develop a solid marketing relationship with its fans outside of perhaps the "Grey Cup" brand.

Team's fans connections lie (at most) as deep as the logo from a brand persepctive. For a few teams, the connection is only as deep as the team colours (such as the Renegades, Bombers, and Argos).

The wholesale changes has/will put a dent in the brand connection, and I fear that by using such generic uniforms; however, in most cases positive changes quickly earn back the connection, and potentially (although rarely) can surpass the previous levels.

This should have been a realizable objective for the CFL; however, I feel they have incurred the expected dent but, by using such generic uniforms, have also very much capped the level of attachment they can achieve, destroying any hope of building beyond where they had come.

Coincidence? You decide.

Number font? Okay.

New wordmark? Sure.

Black sleeve striping? I can deal with it.

That red... thing... across the shoulders?

I'd rather gouge my eyes out with a plastic spoon.

Here's hoping they're not wearing red pants with the red jerseys, too. That would just be criminal.

Um, there's a major difference there. One's a football player and the other... Well, the other is a clown.

If anything, accuse Calgary for jacking Atlanta's look (BTW, Calgary fans: Don't be shocked if angry Falcon fans call you for taking their look).

In my honest opinion, B.C. has the best jersey. Why? They have an orange jersey! I must have that orange jersey.

Edit: Eh, so I was wrong about the Stampeders' jersey. What can I say except I haven't heard jack about the CFL until now.

Um, guys, if you look at those Calgary jerseys, you'll realize that they're not particularly close to the Atlanta jerseys.

They're ugly as sin, especially the whites, but not Atlanta clones.

Buy some t-shirts and stuff at KJ Shop!

No, those would be the yet-to-be-released Lions black thirds. They're Atlanta templates, using orange instead of red on the sleeves.

I continue to remain underwhelmed.

In fact, if I had any talent and ability, I'd attempt to start a contest about what could have been with the CFL jerseys. They surely could have done more than this. If anyone feels so inclined to liberate this idea and run with it, be my guest.

B.C. nailed this one. These look way better than the silver and black jersey's they had last year. Best current CFL jersey. Bringing back the orange was a great idea. I don't mind the black stripe at all. GO BC! :D

OMG! I know I'm not Canadian, but the BC Lions have completely ditched silver from their color scheme!

They're reverting to their white helmets, which they wore in the 80s- but they're going without any stripes this time. Here's a photo of BC vs Hamilton in the '85 Grey Cup game.

I gotta say this... the CFL uniforms are a mixture of interest and some odd ways... I went "DANG" when I saw the uniforms for the first time.. thought they looked interesting.. some jerseys I like.. a few I dont even like..ehhh.. but if the CFL is going that way with the jerseys...I can only hope that will work out...dunno on that..

Here's a couple of other things to hate about the CFL's new jerseys...

Reebok has apparently only made replica jerseys available for sale to fans.

What's more, everywhere I've checked into personalization of the replicas - the CFL merchandise site, individual team merchandise sites, third-party sites like River City Sports - lists the following disclaimer with regard to customization:

Replica customizing will be block number style, with 2 colors max.

So much for Reebok's introduction of team-unique numeric fonts to the jerseys of the CFL. Bottom line? If you're planning on getting your new CFL team jersey customized, you can forget about having your team's official new number style applied to said jersey.

I love BC look it reminds me of a college team.

Yeah, it reminds me of not Tennessee so much as the Miami Hurricanes, especially that stripe going across the top... which, upon seeing those detailed photos from that Slam! link earlier this thread, brings up a criticism I have with the new unis, even the good ones like Hamilton and Edmonton... almost all of them have a similar stripe going across. To me, it takes away from the rest of the uniform, as if to demand everyone, "Hey! Notice this stripe!!"

I think that is actually their intention, so people will automatically associate them as Reebok when they see the trademark piping patterns. It's the same as the ubiquitous Adidas three stripes on soccer shorts, etc. People are supposed to get that they are Reebok, even if they can't see their badges from a distance.
