Osgood back in Detroit...

Bye Jospeh... bye Hasek... oh ya, this guy!Β

For Old Times' Sake

Ahhhh ...... thanks for the memories. I was at that game.

Not sure if Osgood was the smartest move for the Wings. They need Datsyuk and Zetterberg. But considering the price they got Osgood for, it's wasn't a stupid move.

Which brings us to the second part of the question: Why does Pittsburgh deserve a team more than Kansas City or Winnipeg (or Quebec, or Hartford, for that matter)?

Why do those cities deserve the team more than Pittsburgh? I'm guessing that the revenue potential is pretty even for all of them, and since the team is already in Pittsburgh, why move it if there won't be a significant benefit? I'm not slamming KC or WPG or Hartford or QC, I'm sure any of those cities could support the new NHL.

I can't believe I'm defending Pittsburgh, because I totally agree with all the bad words directed at them for their actions in the early '90s. But in the new system, and with competant ownership, they should be an asset to the league.

Love the Gretzky suit! :notworthy:

I just wish the Minnesota Wild would have shown up on this thread. Cripes, we've been out spent by the Predators, Blue Jackets and Penguins of all teams! SOAB! :cursing:

Is the logo supposed to be misaligned on the bottom of the C? What's with the "general motors place" words being hap-hazardly dropped on the ice? It's tough to look at.

I'm sure it won't stay like that for long. All the different words and logos have likely been printed onto big sheets that they will lay down (like you can see them doing with the whale and the paint rollers in one shot) and then put layers of ice over top.

I worked in the arena in Lethbridge one summer when they installed the ice for the Hurricanes, and it wasn't as easy as it would be in Vancouver. For that rink, they laid down a couple of layers of ice with white colouring, then built it up to about a quarter of an inch thick, when they put down the logos and the lines. The lines literally came in rolls of paper a foot wide. The logos were on large sheets of paper, but only little holes were in the sheets (no ink), which were laid down in position and then had blue chalk run over them. So you had the outlines of the logos in blue chalk, and the crew then proceeded to get down on hands and knees and manually paint each one of them in. I remember doing one of the Canada Post logos in the neutral zone. I'm glad I had to leave to go back to school in Calgary before they started on the giant Tasmanian devil at centre ice.

The logo is like their team in the playoffs. Falling apart.

It was the summer between my first and second years of college. I was working at a liquor store, but I wasn't really earning enough money. My parents had a friend who worked at the City, who operate the arena, and he got me an interview. It was basically a general maintenance job ? I remember coming to work one night and sitting through about half a performance of the Shrine Circus before cleaning up the stands afterward ? and once mid-August rolled around, it was time to get the ice in.

So while a team from a small city like Pittsburgh won't ever be near the top of revenue, it would still bring in (with a good economic structure) enough so that the rest of the teams aren't supporting them (unlike the Podunk example.)

Which brings us to the second part of the question: Why does Pittsburgh deserve a team more than Kansas City or Winnipeg (or Quebec, or Hartford, for that matter)?

easy answer: pittsburgh dosn't deserve a team more then kc, winnipeg, qc, or hartford.

Certainly they do. In the modern era, Pittsburgh has stayed put (however tenuously). The other four have not. La.

Sportsnet.ca's Hockey Hearsay section is reporting a possible pending blockbuster:

A report in the Montreal Gazette says rumours are flying about a deal brewing between Montreal and Florida which would see the teams switch goaltenders.

The rumoured deal would send Montreal native Roberto Luongo to (the Habs) for former Hart Trophy and Vezina Trophy winner Jose Theodore.

Florida's insistence of the inclusion of Calder Trophy finalist Michael Ryder is the sticking point for the deal.
