I am a big fan of the current LSU uniforms and helmets. Most people are.

Same here, but the white helmets they used a few years abck did look slick

I agree with BigShoop -- LSU needs a different look to its helmets.

For one thing, the LSU over the Tiger logo looks awful. Just like here in North Dakota where the UND Sioux hockey team has the word "Sioux" above the logo on the jerseys. In both cases, the lettering seems to take away from the logos.

Either go with a logo or go with lettering -- not both. Or, better yet, mix a logo within lettering (like the Detroit Tigers logo wither the Tiger is in the Olde English D).

Here's LSU's current helmet:

The ONLY thing that needs to change is the tiger head. They need to use the head from this logo.

That's the worst idea since, well, the beginning of time.

A. The new tiger is BLACK and gold.

B. It looks really NOT-intimidating.

C. It's terribly executed, but in a bad way.

See fig. 1

The LSU on our helmet does look like electrical tape, but it has been that way for over 30 years so tradition and nostalgia takes over at some point. I think the white helmet looked good, but 80% of the people in Baton Rouge can't stand it. Anytime there is talk of change, fan pressure smothers it quickly (Over the summer they were talking about changing the tiger head like you suggested as well as changing the LSU to the geaux font.) LSU will never change and if they do, whoever initiates it will be run out of town in no time and order will be restored (guaranteed).

Anyone who has seen LSU in person knows they have nailed that uniform perfectly. The color of the helmets/pants doesn't come across as good on TV, but it is awesome in person. Gold (yellow/orange) is here to stay.

LSU's helmet is the one of the best in college football. I wouldn't change a thing, not the tiger head, not the "LSU", nothing. It's college football at its finest - doesn't look like a NFL helmet, and is a step up from a high school helmet.

Smart is believing half of what you hear. Genius is knowing which half.

Please, explain: What makes LSU's helmet one of the best in college football? (And by the way, saying it looks like a college football helmet doesn't sway me because I can think of so many more college football helmets that look better.)

I'm with you on this. There is absolutely no way people in Baton Rouge would allow a change in the uniforms or helmet. They are all about tradition for the football team. I still hear people complaining about purple pants they wore once during the Dinardo era.

I think they helmet logo does look dated, but it is to the point now where it has gone from dated to traditional, like Arkansas or South Carolina's helmets. I hope they stick with it for a long time.

.....you can almost guess how I feel about LSU's duds. Except for 1958 and the mid-late 80's, their "tradition" has been the last 5 years. They have just looked bad for so long, geniuses in Red Stick believe that they have some sort of tradition going on here, so why change it? If you know ANYTHING about ANYTHING in Louisiana....change is a four-letter word.

I can't wait for the day they start to look like Curley Hallman's squads in those "bruised banana" outfits.

LSU fans and supporters seem to be diehard traditionalists. The only thing I see changing about that helmet would be to standardize the colors (they seem a little off at first glance) and to replace the "LSU" with the Geaux font, because it would be a subtle modification that makes it more consistent with the entire athletic identity. The letters are almost already there, except for the L.

One of you graphic geniuses need to gimme some new LSU uniforms. They're horrible, and they're helmet is absolutely god awful.

Obvious flame attempt, but what would you expect from a guy with a Devil Rays banner? How many uniforms have they had in their dreadful existence?

Actually, it would be the last six seasons (number of consecutive bowl games with four bowl wins in that time). Tulane has four bowl wins in 10 tries in its history, period. When you reach the status of a big-time Division I-A football powerhouse, then you get the right to call out LSU's supposed football tradition.

Tulane Bowl History

The LSU uniform is fine. The Tiger head on the helmet should be part of a new logo because the Toonces cat logo with the dropshadowed LSU Tigers is awful.

I'm very surprised that so many people like the LSU helmet. The yellow looks great, and I can deal with the traditional stripes, and maybe even the electrical tape. But that tiger logo is just plain awful. It is all but undistinguishable, even from just a few feet away. Step back a little more and it looks like someone squashed a bug on the side of the helmet. They either need a (different) tiger or the "LSU", but not both. It's too busy with both.
