Favre to retire?

Supposedly will be announced in a day or two (he pretty much said he wasn't into it anymore the other day)..

Is he in the all time top 10?

How many are better than him?

I think he's in the all time top 1

One thing that is different about favre as compared to guys like Marino is that Green Bay's offense is a more run oriented attack, so for him to put up huge numbers, to me is more impressive than a guy like marino who just threw the ball all the time.

Marino had to throw, because Miami couldn't run the ball. So, you could argue that teams played more nickel and dime defense against him and d-linemen could rush the passer on every down, but Marino still put up huge numbers

Favee's passing numbers are impressive since he was still slingin' it in Nov and Dec when most cold weather teams were going conservative.

I don't know about him being the best ever. He does have a string of MVP awards, a whole bunch of yards, and the consecutive start streak, but he threw a lot of INTs and (fairly or unfairly) he only won 1 Super Bowl, the same number as Mark Rypien and Trent Dilfer.

Favre is certainly top 10 material.

He's probably 8 or 9 in my book. Then again, I'm a Bears fan.

Awwww.....poor John Madden. Now who's salad will he get to toss? Nothing against Favre's carrer, but if there one thing I couldn't stand was the near Chuck Norris-like butt kissing Madden gave Favre every time he covered a Packers game- and even a few times when he didn't.

I can just picture Madden a year from now; "Oh yeah sure (insert Manning, Vick, Brady, ect) is good, but I remember when Brett Farve could stop the rotation of the earth with his feet and hit his man blindfolded...oh gawd....*sob.....I miss Brett sooo much!"

Brett if you can hear me, can you take Madden with you? Please?

We all have our little faults. Mine's in California.

That is a bold statement. Better than Marino? Montana? Elway?

I am probably biased. As a Vikings fan in Wisconsin, I saw him pull off so many miracles and got so frustrated by it. I knew if he got the ball with more than a minute left and the Vikes up by less than 7, the game was over.

I am not a numbers person in football, but while his were impressive, it is the intangibles. I saw him win many games that I honestly thought "any other QB does not win that game.

He is obviouly in the top ten and I think the top 5. #1? He's my pick, but you can't go wrong with Montana, Marino, Elway, Unitas.

Does Favre make my Top 10? ....

1. Joe Montana

2. John Elway

3. Dan Marino

4. Johnny Unitas

5. Steve Young

6. Brett Favre

No need to go on ... Brett makes my list.

I pretty much agree with your rankings, except Elway is six and everyone bumps up one spot. I just don't like Elway.

why is it the greatest players ever are ALWAYS quarterbacks?

This is my just list of Top QBs. I don't think Favre makes Top 10 of all time though, but he's close.

Heres mine

1. Joe Montana

2. Brett Farve

3. Terry Bradshaw

4. Steve Young

5. Dan Marino

T 6. John Elway/Tom Brady

Im basing this off of a few things. Overall talent, Super Bowl Success (why Marino could drop even further) and exposure (to me anyway. Im sure i would have put Unitas or whoever, but i never really saw them. I never saw any really quality footage of him.)

So with Favre retiring and all... can the Packers go ahead and fire this McCarthy guy?

Face it Green Bay, hiring him to keep Favre from quitting didn't work You took a risk, it didn't pay off, now it's time to move on and bring in someone that will actually win you a few games.

Farve is a top ten QB.

Not top 5. Not a top ten of all players.

Been overrated and riding his past successes for 3 years now.
