When I think of a duck, I don't exactly think of steel grating. It looks like Nike is trying to make them look like something from Halo. And how stupid can these players be? How are they graduating? They actually chose to look like this? The jerseys might look slightly better without the steel look. Which leads me to my conclusion-why do I feel like I need to buy one? :D

Its been one heck of a week for teams named the Ducks.

You realize that Oregon does this because of the publicity, right? We talk about the University of Oregon all the time for being different. A kid in high school could narrows his choices to a few schools, then sees that he is going to get the most attention if he goes to Oregon. Nike continues to outfit the Ducks, and the life cycle continues. If you really hate Nike that much, and want them to go away, stop being so critical of them and just flat out ignore them. If you say this is impossible to do, well, guess what? That means Nike and Oregon are getting exactly what they wanted. Also, can anyone else come up with a way to say vomit on this thread?

Completely agree. The majority of readers on this board slam the uni's for being non-traditional and out there - but that's entirely the point. Nobody's sitting around talking about a run of the mill Adidas Tenessee jersey.

People talk about them, they get the best technology, and they get the most cutting edge designs in the country. It's a win for U of Oregon AND Nike.

Also, Nike often sells more Nebraska gear in Lincoln than Adidas does - despite Adidas' on-field license. As many Nike haters there are on this board, there are a whole lot MORE people who support and prefer Nike products and designs.

Gotta agree with you here. When EVER has a uniform gotten this much attention from this board? There is no such thing as bad publicity. They are ALWAYS being talked about, whether you love the uniforms or not the University of Oregon doesn't care. Right on guys! I agree with both of you completely.

I was really upset when I saw the black jerseys before the civil war (remember that? yeah, they used those to KILL OSU), and if they just lost the stupid god-damned diamond plating look then they'd be MUCH better off. I don't mind the fonts so much, it's just the diamond-plate thing that's killing me.

and get off us on the "ZOMG WTF 48 different uniss!!!11!!" thing. C'mon. they have four uniforms (which *is* ridiculous) just 48 combinations. It has the O, the Oregon font, those numbers, that *puke* diamond plating, in green, white, or yellow and green then you know it's the Ducks. it's not that hard, people.

and the reason you don't see people wearing Ducks stuff out in the East Coast: nobody freaking sells it. when I went to Indy in January they had stupid designer-looking hats for UCLA, USC, Cal and UW at the Lids in the downtown mall there - that was it. can you find much Penn St. or Wisconsin stuff in a mall in Portland? Doubtful. Oregon are trying to get up to a place, ala Michigan or the U of Miami where they're recognized nation-wide, but it sure as hell isn't working so far. I like the 1998-update font, O logo, etc....I just don't like these new unis.

guess that means I'll be trying to track down one of the last Clemens 11 jerseys at GI-Joes over the summer then.

just for the record, even though he lives MUCH closer to the stadium than I do, gordie wouldn't have gone to the football games this year anyways. he's slightly allergic to fun :P

to steal an adage from auto racing, "fast cars look good." the only way to make these things remotely acceptable? well...nah, not going to say it. not gonna go there yet.

ghost flames - good idea, bad execution. yellow helmet? traditional...but with ghost flames, see previous comment. white helmet? my dad thinks it'll be a bad-luck charm ala when OSU went to orange helmets...I don't mind it but I love the current dark green with black that we use anyways, with that new yellow one (if it were minus flames) a close second.

The paint on the traditional green helmets, for instance, is made with glass beads and costs $2,400 per gallon.

GOOD GAWD!!

I guess that means Home Depot won't have that paint in their Team Colors selection...

Its like the color shifiting paint. You know, the paint that is a different color from every angle? Anyway, when Dupont first came out with that it cost almost $1,500 for a jar the size of model car paint. When they first unveiled it to the public they painted one of Jeff Gordon's cars for the Budwieser Shootout "mirrage" as the color is called, and the paint job was worth more than the car itself.

Todd Van Horne, Nike executive's father-in law is the president of UO.

Huh? Do you mean he is married to one of Dave Frohnmayer (President of U of O)'s daughter?

bingo!

Don't think so. He had two daughters die from Fanconi anemia, and his third daughter is only 19.

"We're a happenin' place," Oregon athletic director Bill Moos said, "and young people like that."

"You know, we're bad. 'Bad' meaning 'good'. Like the kids say."

Interesting, in all that masterbatory blather from the Oregon sports information department and Nike, nobody trumpets the company's jersey sales or the school's recruitment efforts. You know, the things that usually matter in such affairs. In short, other than making a lot of noise, what's the point?

We already know why they don't mention recruiting, other than the breathless line "Oregon recruits swoon": Oregon's recuiting is flat-out terrible, the worst in the Pac 10.

But why don't they mention jersey sales? They must be really slow.

So again, other than to make a lot of noise, what's the point of all this?

Now that you mention it, Gothamite, here in Chicago you can find all kinds of jerseys from schools nationwide in stores, including the lineup of Nike's heavy hitters. Never, not once, have I seen an Oregon jersey for sale in any of these stores. Nor have I ever seen anyone wearing one. If these radical design changes are all about marketing and generating broad-base appeal, it's not working.

Both of you are correct, I never see Oregon items in my travels (typically 1 week a month). Plus, collegefootballnews.com has Oregon as #10 in recruiting since they are consistently heavy on JuCo players. That is typical for them, but how "happening" can you be if you have to get true freshmen? I don't mind the white, but they will still be no better than 8-3 on average.

Yep. Terrible.

List of thoughts on the new look:

1. Hey, some team has to be liberal about unis and test the market and look on the field. :woot:

2. SWEET!... but why not block numbers or the ones they used previously?

3. Ditch the black uniforms altogether.

4. No mix and matching either. That will be the day hell will officially freeze over. Although it might have when Oregon got whipped in their last bowl game. Remember the uni combo they had?

5. Love the yellow. Gives them the advantage by blinding the opposing teams and their fans during day games.

6. Best dark green uniform so far.

7. Still the white ones during the Harrington era are still the best.

8. Ok, the white unis are uglier than the black ones, but at least the helmet matches.

9. THREE (3) helmets!!! Beat THAT WAZU! (dance)

10. If you follow the placement of helmets with the players, will they break out the yellow helmets with the black unis? That will hauntingly remind me of really a bad honey mustard and mayo mix. YUCK!

11. Please don't get any uglier than this. I'm at my limit.

I do have to say that these are the worst and I do mean the worst uniforms ever in football. Does Nike think there will be a stampede to the Oregon book store to buy those jerseys? I liked the duck logo on the sleeve.

Some of the worst color combinations have been at the smaller schools - like FAMU - birght orange and green? But Nike U, I mean Oregon U is deifintely the worst.
