ESPN's Monday Night Football

It is extremely annoying and gets in the way of the occasional play...

Kornheiser was brought in to be a "the funny guy" and he isn't doing that great a job, he's more annoying than anything else. I miss MNF on ABC already...

On a similar note (different channel) CBS changed their look (FINALLY) and it's much more modern than what they used to have, I like their change in the scoreboard since it's not so boring anymore...

I like the ESPN ingame score at the bottom center of the screen, no other stuff cluttering the frame.

The trio is Mike Tirico play by play, Joe Theisman - analyst and Tony Kornheiser providing color.

I cannot not stand Thiesman, I like Kornheiser's columns and schtick on "Pardon The Interruption" but his football insight is sub par so far

You guys are nuts. Kornheiser is great! Toreco was a great college football analyst and I think he's still just as good at the professional level. Kornheiser is the guy who shut up that stupid Joe Theisman whenever he makes his dumbass comments about "the time honored traditions of pro football".

I do agree Madden and Michaels were/are much better, but c'mon Tony Kornheiser is the man!

It's like 5 minutes into the second game, and I'm finding out that Nessler, Vermeil, and Jaws blow the other three out of the water. This is a good group of announcers.

Smart is believing half of what you hear. Genius is knowing which half.

Vermiel was always a good anaylyst before he went back to coaching. You're right that group on the second game is kicking the crap out of the first gamers. Tony Kornheiser has the same problem that Dennis Miller had which is trying to be funny all the time when the situation doesn't warrant a funny response. And I like Joe Theismann, I'm probably the only one, but I think he's a good guy and sometimes the stuff Kornheiser says to him seem a little offensive to a guy like him.

Joe Theisman= Tim McCarver just hearing his voice sometimes makes me cringe and its the type of cringe that makes me want to see the LT play again and again and again.

you are the only one.

i also don't think that kornheiser has clicked yet, but i think he will eventually. it takes time to build rapport with two other people, especially when you probably are light years ahead of them in terms of intelligence.

Now, I like Brad Nessler, but he seems so amazingly out of place doing NFL games. When im not watching the game and let myself trail I think for just a split second that its a big college game going on.

That was an awful game the Raiders should be ashamed of themselves they brought shame to their uniforms, with that performance.

27-0 yikes.

BTW if I lost my fanatsy game this week I will be kicking myself for not startingh the Chargers D, wont make that mistake next week, at least I won with the game Tony Gonzalez had :D

THough to be honest Jake Plummer helped me allot more :P the Jay Cutler watch has started in Denver.

I think both Kornheiser and Theisman may get better when Washington is not involved in the game.

Kornheiser's best line was about the players and hyperbaric chambers.

"The views expressed here are mine and do not reflect the official opinion of my employer or the organization through which the Internet was accessed."

Dr. Kelso: My son is a big baseball fan. Not so much playing it, but more the designing and sewing of uniforms.

Tyler: That's neat.

Dr. Kelso: No, it's not.

Was it just me, or was Dick Vermiel a hell of a lot funnier that Tony Kornheiser?

I hope the suits at ESPN take note of who was the better broadcast team.

I once had a car but I crashed it. I once had a guitar but I smashed it. I once, wait where am I going with this?

I agree that Jaws (who is great during Eagles preseason games) and Vermeil were very good. Nessler was ok, but seemed out place. I miss Mike Patrick doing NFL games.

I don't think Theismann makes a good announcer. Nothing can make me respect a guy who, in an interview, once said this:

Everybody remembers what they were doing when my leg was broken.

That says it all...

MNF opener draws ESPN's highest rating ever

NFL.com wire reports

NEW YORK (Sept. 12, 2006) -- ESPN's first regular-season Monday night NFL game under the new contract drew the cable network's biggest audience ever.

The game between the Minnesota Vikings and Washington Redskins, won 19-16 by Minnesota, drew a 9.9 rating, representing an average of between nearly 9.2 million and 12.57 million households, the network said. The previous record was 8.9 million households on Christmas Day 2004 for a game between Detroit and Miami.

ESPN's second Monday night game, San Diego's 27-0 victory against Oakland, received a rating of 8.5 and was seen in an average of 7.87 million households.

The first game began at 7 p.m. ET and the second started at 10:15.

I'm 100% sure Miami & Detroit didn't play on Christmas in 2004. Even so, why would that be the highest rated game on ESPN? Both teams were awful that year.

...because there was nothing else to watch?

[Croatia National Team Manager Slavan] Bilic then went on to explain how Croatia's success can partially be put down to his progressive man-management techniques. "Sometimes I lie in the bed with my players. I go to the room of Vedran Corluka and Luka Modric when I see they have a problem and I lie in bed with them and we talk for 10 minutes." Maybe Capello could try getting through to his players this way too? Although how far he'd get with Joe Cole jumping up and down on the mattress and Rooney demanding to be read his favourite page from The Very Hungry Caterpillar is open to question. --The Guardian's Fiver, 08 September 2008
