powersurge
The Redskins helmets that had the feather stripe in the 60's I think would count here.Yes, these...And what about - can you believe this? - the San Diego Chargers, going all out back in the early 60's to support their Chamber of Commerce after San Diego was designated an "All-American City." Talk about a lousy idea!Images are from the excellent helmethut.com.And considering that most of the cities that win the All-America City award tend to just plain suck, it's not something I'd want to help my city play up.I say that because I lived in Green Bay when they won the award in 1999 and thought "if THIS is what American cities are supposed to strive to be, maybe I should move to Canada."7 years later I live on the border LOL! my city (Danbury, CT) won that distinction a while ago. It does indeed "plain suck" now....and we don't even have a real professional sports franchise!!!!!

I thought some team no one cares about replaced the Trashers!!!!Nothing was cooler than some of the Danbury High School Hatters logos from back in the late 80s, like the Mad Hatter running with a football, etc.
StefOn
The Hamburg Blue Devils of the German Football League (NOT the NFLE Hamburg Sea Devils) had a pretty weird helmet in 2004. They moved their (great) logo to the back to make room for AOL on the sides... (Yes, Euro-Teams need money). They since have abandoned that "all-over" design and went back to a navy helmet, but still have the sponsor on the sides and their logo on the back. It's weird seeing a corporate logo on the helmet. Have you ever looked at sports logos...ON WEED?

AmazinLary
helmethut.com had pics of Navy circa 62 with "Beat Army" on the front and a Jolly Roger in the same spot in 63.
StefOn
Yeah, thats pretty bad. Could they have whored themselves out any worse? This actually is one of the uglier helmets regarding advertising. Most European teams sell space on their helmets. But almost none sell the space on the sides. Becoming a whore is sometimes appealing when bankruptcy nears.
Gothamite
Indiana, 1960 back and front IU logos:I had forgotten that they did that. I would have love to have seen a 1960 Wisconsin / Indiana game. The Green Bay Packers Uniform Database! Now in a handy blog.

B-Rich
You know, if you took away all the ads on the helmet, to me that's a pretty interesting design for a "devils" named or themed team. Incorporating the horns in a two-level paint job... distinctive. I think I'd handle the "tail" on the back differently, though-- maybe put it straight down the middle instead of going sideways.....a quick and dirty photoshop of how it would look without the ads.... It is what it is.

mjrbaseball
A while back I did a concept about what NFL helmets would be like if they were designed like Dartmouth's, with the logo on the front and the sweeping diagonal stripes. You can find it here:"The Dartmouth Project" (on CCSLC concepts forum)
