Spring Training Photos - New Hats and Jerseys

These new spring training/BP caps with their faux ear flap looking color thing look stupid.

Tom Gage of The Detroit News wrote today, "...The Tigers are wearing new hats, but only for spring training, thankfully. That inside-out look over the ears isn't the best."

i bought the mets hat more because i'm a merchandise whore than anything else. i'm more amped to get the new mets bp jersey because i think it looks so much sharper without the black shoulders. having a full blue jersey for this team is such a step up.

but i must say the hats fit pretty well. the only thing i wish teams had done is, like paul at uniwatchblog said, is keep the color of the satin the same as the color of the hat like the red sox, yanks, blue jays, rangers and other teams did. it's a less harsh contrast.

If you look closely at the Mets BP jerseys, there looks to be a new extra white outline around 'Mets', the names and the numbers. One would think outline-dropshadow-outline would be way overboard, but I actually don't mind the way it looks. Anyone notice any other clubs w/ similar additions?

D-Backs would be better off with a sand snake with red diamonds with the black background. I actually like the sand piping and red on the side of the hat because it gives the sense of the desert and hot climate in the area of Arizona. But, God, that Red Snake looks awful.

I Really think that the D-backs can do wonders with their jersey if they use a different color jersey as the base since its really plain as well... Like Sand snake on white.

How is it the mets can get more outlines around their numbers while the Jays lose them? Here is an actual pic of the numbers on the back of the Jays BP jerseys.

More importantly, look how stupid the 'new' helmet paint pattern looks on an old unvented helmet. Are we all in agreement that the Mets batting helmets are the worst baseball uniform innovation since the original Devil Rays?

That Rangers cap looks sweet, I must say.

The Reds cap may well be the ugliest thing I've ever seen.

Astros one looks very nice...and the flap and piping pop on the new D<>backs cap, but I agree the neo-Dsnake colors need a tweak.

from what it looks like most of the teams have two different colors on their hats/ side panels.. the teams that don't are

Red Sox, Yankees, White Sox, Phillies, Marlins, Astros, Athletics, Twins, Giants

I sort of wish their was more of a consistancy with all the hats.. so all of them had a alternate color on the side panels. (such as teal on the marlins, orange on the giants.. ect)

The Tribe hat is like that too.

Both Boston BP hats are the same way too

The Angels cap doesnt look to have the Flaps either, nor the pipping that goes with it.

Ok so theres something REEEEEEEEEEEELY fishy going on with the new Angels BP caps. I was at the mall today checking out some more of the new BP caps and when I got to the Angels caps they were DEFINATELY the new style and cut but half of them had the stupid ear flap, the other half didnt. And like I said, the ones without the flap were DEFINATELY the new cut. Im wondering if they started producing the BP caps and halfway through decided to toss on the stupid ear flap, and only like half of the angels caps ended up with the flap. Hmmm. Very interesting.

We covered this up-thread. The Angels cap in the picture is of last season's cap. The new one has the same side panels just like everyone else. Starstruck, MLB Shop, etc, confirmed this.

The new cap and the old cap are both essentially the same style and cut, but the only real difference is the side panels. That store you went to had the two styles (old & new) mixed on the shelf. That's inattention/laziness on the part of the store employees.

Actually this has not been totally fixed yet, because the Angels store on MLB.com still has the old looking hat and all of the Spring Training Angels pictures do as well...whats going on?

No. Your incorrect sir. I can say with 100% certainty that BOTH caps I saw yesterday were of the new style. Everything down to the material used was of the new style. I worked at a Lids out in SoCal last year and sold a ton of the old Angels BP caps so I have a pretty good idea of what they look like.

i wore one of the new one style BoSox BP hats today during my shift.

i am not impressed. i do like the crown of the hat, but the ear flaps have to go. it looks really goofy backwards. i think the flaps are much more uncomfortable than one with out flaps.

i wish they would make a 39/30 version of the old mesh BP hats from like 6 years ago. man i wish i could have gotten a few of those before they stoped making them.

yeah the last years model is destictively different. the crown of last years model is much more flimsy and the sizing is way different.

I went out last Friday and bought the Cubs Spring Training/BP cap (yes, this one that was universally pooped on earlier):

But I just had to get it after seeing it in person (on my head), and seeing how well it fit... I never liked the 39thirty, as the sizing was just a bit off for my 7 5/8 head (I was just between a M/L and a L/XL), but the new caps fit me like a glove... Much nicer than the old, and I like the look better than in the pic (which I don't think does the cap justice...)
