What's the worst you've ever been burned on a jersey purchase?

Houston Aeros, AHL minor league hockey, home white from 1999. They won the IHL championship and changed the design next year. Bought next years version. Very nice old school jersey, one of my favorite jerseys. Next year changed the logo. So I was 0 for 2.

YOU were NOT burned. The home white 1999 Aeros jersey is one of the all-time most popular, beloved jerseys in all of hockey AND they won a championship while wearing it. You are lucky to have one no matter what weird, corporate descisions they made afterwards. Proof? The team went BACK to the old school logo.

Also, the "old school" jersey is also a great jersey. For those not familiar with it, it's a modern update of the classic 70's WHA jersey and is another solid purchase before the team was sold to the Wild and adopted the corporate Wild jersey template and colors, which did bad, bad things to the logo when it was recolored and subsequently dumped.

Actually It was the blue one. I would never get rid of them. But I was burned in the fact they changed in the next year. But your point is well taken. I take back being burned.

The blue one is even better since it was a one year only style. They introduced the white one as an alternate in 02-03 and made it the primary in 03-04 and needed to add the blue to complete the set and then went "Wild" the next year.

Hello everyone, I've been lurking for a few days and this thread has caught my attention.

This is not so much a jersey purchase as what happened to my jersey. For my birthday, my grandparents gave me money so I bought the new Ducks black replica jersey. I know its not very popular, but for some reason I've liked the black, gold, and orange scheme. Well fast forward to April 4th, my wife and I went to the Ducks-Sharks home finale while we were in California on vacation. I had decided that I wanted to get the jersey personalized and got Selanne put on it. A few days later I discovered they had put a small hole in my jersey. No big deal, you would have to look hard to find it, so I wasn't too upset.

Until the following Tuesday when I noticed that the nameplate on the Selanne jersey was coming off. One corner was peeling off substantially. Sure enough it peeled right off, as did the 8# on the back, which was also coming off. The numbers on the sleeves came right off as well, leaving glue residue and marks on the jersey. I have yet to decide how I want to repair this thing. Every time I look at it I get ticked off about it.

They'll fix it up. Send them photos and such.

Thanks for the link! How good is their work?

It's top-notch. They used the correct material for my Titans jersey (it's a "ridgy" tackle twill) and managed to get the vertically-arched lettering on my Andres Galarraga Braves jersey correct. Highly recommended.

I have a story from a few years back when I was burned, kind of.

I wanted a Detroit Ben Wallace Jersey, I think this was the year before they won their title, or during their title run (since my b-day is in January).

I open up my present on, and what do I see, a white Blazers Jersey with Wallace on the back.

My mom was like, whoops.

It was a really nice one too, I think one of the ones between replica and authentic, and she got it for a good price( since I think he had already been traded by then).

But it got all worked on when we returned it and ordered a Ben Wallace Jersey from eastbay, although not as good of quality.

The World Basketball Championship, the Davis Cup, Ryder Cup, Iraq: Every day there's further proof that we, as a nation, are not very good at international competition.

My biggest burn was an Islanders #1 Roberto Luongo jersey. He had been the number one prospect in hockey for 2 years running, had finally stuck with the team for the later half of the season, figured if anyone was safe with the team for the long run, it was him!

Well, stupid me, I should have known with Mad Mike nobody is safe. 1 month later he is traded to the Panthers.

So I took the nameplate off and just wore it with the #1 on it...then I got a lucky break, our new goalie of the future Ricky D comes up and is wearing #1! Hooray, I can just get a nameplate with DiPietro on the back put on.

So I do that and am happily wearing my DiPietro #1 jersey, and then he goes and changes his number to #39. So back to having just a nameless #1 Islanders jersey.

Let's see... dropped $175 on an authentic Ray Allen Bucks jersey two weeks before George "it's easier to piss away a franchise player than it is to do my :censored:in' job" Karl traded him away to Seattle.

And this december I bought an Ahman Green Packers jersey.

So yea... this seems to be a pretty good pattern with me. From now I'm stickin' to throwbacks.

Did you get it iorned up at the Pond? If so, take it back and have it redone. I picked up a new Ducks Black jersey the day they were released to the public and had it personalized in the same way, and had the same problems. I noticed my jersey wasnt fully pressed before I even walked out of the store and the guy gladly repressed it. The guy behind the counter said if there was any kind of problem to take it back and they'll heat press it to your satisfaction.

Boy is this topic right up my alley :D

Where to start....

Glenn Foley Jets (I was young and just liked the retro design)

Ravens Vinny Testaverde (bought the first year of the franchise, thought it looked cool)

Eagles Ricky Watters

Drew Bledsoe Patriots (purchased year before the coming of Brady)

Grant Hill Pistons (Yeah, the teal and black, I still think it looked cool)

Ron Dayne Giants (nuff said)

Buccaneers Trent Dilfer (Don't ask)

Joey Harrington AND Charles Rogers Lions (double ouch)

David Carr Texans

Jevon Kearse Titans

A-Rod Rangers (I took the name & number off and it looked good blank)

Chris Pronger Blues (he promptly missed a whole season, then got traded to Edmonton 2 years later)

Brian Griese Broncos (he's still my favorite quarterback of all time, I have a Bears version I wear proudly as well)

Dany Heatley Thrashers alternate (Authentic, took about 3 months to get lettered and he never stepped on the ice for ATL after I bought it and he was traded, but he's my favorite player and I have an Ottawa version as well. I also love the Thrashers alternate with an unbridled passion.)

Wow, reading my own list makes me realize what a hopeless obscure jersey lover I am...

I hope people don't lose respect for me after this...

I NEARLY bought a Chris Pronger #44 Oilers home blue jersey in March 2006, thinking he was a safe one with a 5 year contract and all.

Luckily I decided that I wanted to wait until the summer and spend some money on playoff tickets instead, so I didn't end up with a deadbeat on the back of my jersey.

Although SCHREMP would have looked good on the back too if I had gotten it, I could just replace the nameplate.

I did get it done there, unfortunately I live in Phoenix and I'm not sure when I'll be able to get out that way again. In a way, I'm happy to know I'm not the only one whose had that issue.

Now, when I was there it was some fat guy with a moustache who did the heat press, and I noticed that there were a bunch of people who came back annoyed that he didnt do a satisfactory job.
