Forgettable sports teams

I highly recommend that Sporcle. I got 120, forgetting only the Sabres (upset about that) and the Hurricanes (understandable). Baseball and football were a breeze because I know every division and who is in it, but I can't remember the divisions in others sports. I mean, who the hell cares about division in the NBA?

I tried the quiz and missed 8 teams. In the NHL, I forgot about Columbus. While in the MLB, I somehow both missed both Metro Los Angeles teams, which made me realize that there are too many teams in the state of California nowadays. Please eliminate three!

I don't know what's worse, the fact that I missed those teams, or the fact that I used both twice in that sentence! Crap!!

Sporting Venue Count (for games): OHL: 19 (28 Total)- 770 games (after 18-19),

MLB: 13 (15 Total), NHL: 4

Somehow, I missed the freaking Yankees and Mets on the first go around a few days ago. (along with the Seahawks, Buccaneers, Timberwolves, and Magic.)

Just tried again for a second time, only missed the Jaguars and again the Orlando Magic.

That's nothing. The one MLB team I got stuck on was...wait for it...the Angels. It's not like they're one of my favorite teams, or that one of my favorite players plays for them, or that I own two Angels jerseys and three hats, or used to have their logo in my sig or anything. B)

 First thing I did was my favorite teams and the teams in their immediate locale. IDK how you screwed that

I am a fair bit surprised a native Ohian and noted Browns fan could possibly like any sports team from Pittsburgh.

I'm not here to judge. I love being a fair bit of a hypocrite. But it is curious to me.

First off, it's Ohioan, not Ohian. (But don't obsess on being wrong about it)

Second, I think the whole "the Browns and Steelers are rivals so Browns fans should hate all Pittsburgh teams" thing is really, really stupid. I should hate the Penguins because the I don't like Steelers? Yeah, that makes perfect sense.

Third, somewhere amongst my 15,000+ posts you'll find a few posts that are relevant to your "curiosity" and might answer your questions.

One of those posts states that I don't really have what one would call a "favorite" baseball team. I just have teams that I like more than others. I watch baseball because I love the sport, not because I have a vested, rooting interest in how well "my team" does.

Another of those 15,000 posts will explain in detail where I stand with the "new Browns" (it's also been addressed on BASS and the Logocast.) Long story short, I still consider myself a Browns fan, but it's nothing like it was with the original Browns/Ravens. Once I bought Packers stock, they kind of moved to the front of the line. Having a real vested interest in a team changed everything. Consider the Browns like an ex-wife who I am on very good terms with. I root for their success, I'll always have a soft spot for them, I'll never root against them, but they just don't mean what they used to to me.

Then there's a post out there somewhere that explains my entire philosophy on my personal "fandom." Again, long story short, it basically says that, thanks to years of covering teams combined with reaching a certain age, being a fan of a particular team means less to me than just enjoying the games I'm watching. In short, I more interested in seeing a great game than I am anything else. As long as the Yankees and Red Sox are not winning rings, I'm pretty happy. Of course, none of this applies to my beloved Ohio State Buckeyes.

And there is a post out there somewhere among the 15,000+ explaining that my sig is a mixture of teams I like along with logos I like. Meaning that a team's logo may appear there because I like the logo, not because I'm a fan of that team.

Finally, how can anyone hate the Pirates?

Now go away. B)

Eh, fair enough.

"Eh?" You asked, I answered. What more do you want? Seriously, I'll be happy to go into more detail on any of your questions on the matter. Just send me a PM so we don't fill the thread with stuff no one else cares about.

The best way to complete these tests is by naming off all of the divisions. I got through the NFL and MLB in about a minute apiece because I know each team by division so well. I spent the other ten minutes struggling through the NBA and NHL because I don't know the division breakdowns completely. I typed in the 122nd team, the Memphis Grizzlies, with about ten seconds to go.

With all their controversies over the past couple of years (mainly involving the same player) keeping them as regular headline makers despite a distinctly mediocre set of performances during that time, I have to nominate the following:

I know this isn't the original intention of this topic but at 23 pages in I think a little leeway can be made.

It really does not matter how the team actually performs on the pitch as they still find a way to make news in other ways or failing that, repeatedly fall back on historic successes. What the current players actually do in terms of winning games makes no difference at all.

Jumping in late so these teams may have already been mentioned. But I vote (one for each sport):

Kansas City Royals

Milwaukee Bucks

Tennessee Titans

Florida Panthers

Iowa State Cyclones

What fan gets amped up to see his team play the Bucks? Same for all of these teams. There's exceptions obviously, but I'd say for the most part no one is circling the schedule when any of these teams come to town.

Surely still being news makers and a prominent club despite not being a great team is pretty much the definition of relevance.

A far better example of an irrelevant EPL team is Wigan, they're in the FA Cup final, will therefore be in Europe next year, and still no one gives a crap about them

My point is more directed as the CURRENT TEAM are irrelevant as anything they achieve on the pitch seems to be irrelevant and count for nothing. It is never the actual football which creates the headlines for them. Plus they are so far behind their 'rivals' in so many aspects.

I probably didn't make that clear enough.
