2008 MLB All-Star Game

NL wise its not too bad. I think Fukudome got in because of his name, his stats aren't All Star worthy in my eyes. I think D Lee should be in but I think he got pushed out by Adrian Gonzalez from the Padres and they need a player.

I can certainly see why Derrek Lee didn't make the National League squad because of the overflow of first basemen in the NL, but would it have hurt to put him in the Final Vote contest? .... expecially over the likes of Pat Burrell and Corey Hart?!

As far as the American reserves go, I've got an issue with Francona taking J.D. Drew and Joe Crede over Jermaine Dye and Evan Longoria. I'm sure he took Drew for obvious reasons, but Crede puzzles me. Longoria has been putting up great numbers, even with the limited times he's seen this season. However, I will give Francona some credit for the selection of his pitching staff. Everyone listed in more than deserving.

No kidding. How can Tampa Bay, the biggest surprise of not only the season, but possibly the history of mankind, not to mention the team with the best record in baseball this late in the season, only get two guys on the damn team? As far as I'm concerned, thrown in a player or two from the other first place teams with the Tampa Bay squad and you have your AL All-Star team right there. A-Rod's been hurt a lot this year, so I don't know if he should be on there, but Jeter and Rivera? Ok. But 7 Sox players? What the...? Papi's on the frickin DL and has done nothing before that. And this is the team that is BEHIND the Rays in the standings. Yeah, this voting process isn't flawed at all. <_<

I still think that the fans, Clint Hurdle, and everyone else is absolutely INSANE for not making Andruw Jones the nod for a starting spot.

No kidding.

Andruw Jones has got to be the most consistant player in the majors. Without a doubt, the biggest snub of them all.

Who's got the prettier swing-and-miss: Andruw Jones or Pat Burrell?

Both Burrell and Hart are better than Lee this year. Sorry, but it's the truth. Have fun losing the game for the NL with all the Scrubs on the roster.

I gotta give that nod to Pat the Bat. Granted, I get to see his beautiful one-handed swing-and-a-miss on an outside pitch on a daily basis, but when he strikes out, it just looks great. I hope that if I were an all-or-nothing hitter like Pat, I'd at least look as good as him while doing so.

The numbers are very comparable, but I don't see how Burrell or Hart are both having better years than D-Lee.

Derrek Lee

107 H, 15 HR, 52 RBI, .302 AVG

Pat Burrell

79 H, 21 HR, 53 RBI, .278 AVG

Corey Hart

97 H, 14 HR, 53 RBI, .294 AVG

The AL, on the other hand, has to realize that the league is not just Boston and New York and then everyone else.

You mean to tell me there's other teams in baseball?

Sort of. There's The ESPN/FOX League which consists of Boston and New York. And then there's the Top Secret League which is only known about by the people who live outside Boston and New York and those who don't watch ESPN. The Top Secret League is kinda like a secret society or Bigfoot. Since it's never on TV, it's actual existence is hard to prove but take my word for it, there are other baseball teams. None of them are of any real importance when compared to Boston or New York but they do exist.

NL Out:

Soriano, Fukadome

NL In:

Burrell, Lee (you could always put Berkman in the OF for an inning or 2)

AL Out:

Jeter (I'm sorry maybe as a reserve, but no way starting), Ortiz, Varitek, A-Rod as a starter, Ichiro

AL In:

Quintan, Kinsler as starting SS (he's played there before), Dye, Longoria as starting 3B

You don't really need 3 catchers either. Unless you want to have one as an emergency, but still, All-Star games years ago had extra inning games and no issue with players.

From what I heard, Varitek was voted in by the players.

Not that that excuses the pick. He's been absolutely terrible.

Manny shouldn't be on the team either. But JD Drew, on the other hand, certainly deserves his spot.

Lincecum was a no brainer but I'm glad Brian Wilson got an All-Star spot. Hopefully if Lincecum wins his start on Wednesday against the Mets he will get the starting nod in Yankee Stadium. Even though Giant pitchers have not fared to well in All-Star Games. I'm crossing my fingers on that one.

Seriously dude, any player who has been as consistant as Jones is something else, but for him to do it with the type of money he's making is something else.

6+ strikeouts for every RBI. That's simply incredible.

And he had four of them IN A ROW vs the Giants on 4th of July. Now if that's not impressive, I don't know what is. It takes work to be that consistant.

Unbelievable.

You, along with the other 40,446 in attendance, must have been in absolute shock.
