Oh :censored:

If this really DOES happen within the next hour, i'll be beside myself.

What, you can't stomach having an MVP candidate and future Hall of Fame QB on your team?

If Favre goes to Tampa, the Bucs become instant favorites to make the NFC title game alongside Dallas. The Bucs were a playoff team last year and having Favre could put them over the top in the NFC.

If Favre goes to New York, the Jets are still Wild Card at best. It doesn't make NY better than the Pats, nor would the move put them ahead of Indy or San Diego.

Knowing this, Brett will most likely become a Tampa Bay Buccaneer by weeks end. (Boy, that's gonna be rough on the eyes)

Wow, what a prediction. I couldn't disagree more. Since the players around you have far more to do with success than most people realize, you're basically saying that other than at QB Tampa is better than Green Bay. The last couple of years don't really support that. Last year's Bucs were handed a victory at New Orleans, then went 1-3 the rest of the way with losses to Houston, San Francisco, and Carolina. Take away that win over the Saints and you're talking 1-4 in their last 5 games. Hardly a promising roll.

When all is said and done - wherever Fav-ruh goes - the result will just be another sad addition to this series:

Insert pic of Favre wearing the (fill in team) uniform.

BTW, that pic of the great Emmitt Smith in that hideous Cards' all-red mono is just wrong.

All these guys you just listed were all but finished by they time they arrived in their new cities. Unitas won a Super Bowl as a backup in Baltimore before he went to San Diego. Broadway Joe had been nothing better than an average quarterback after the NFL-AFL merger before New York finally gave up on him. And Emmitt wasn't wanted/needed in Dallas after he lost his job to Tony Hambrick.

As for Favre, the guy was an overtime away from leading his team to the Super Bowl, and would probably have been league MVP last year if not for the dominant season Tom Brady and Randy Moss had. Brett still has another good year or two left in him for sure. Yeah, he might not lead Tampa or the Jets to a Super Bowl win, but he can still make a huge impact to whatever team he ends up on.

Ok "handed" a victory or not, a win is still a win. And yes, we did lose a really bad one to Houston, but then the next week we beat Atlanta to win the division and shut the shop down due to injuries, trying to rest our guys for the playoffs. In the San Fran game (Which I was at) and the Carolina game our starters played a total of maybe one series. Tampa's biggest problem last season was bad timing.

I think you guys are overrating Favre big-time and underrating the rest of the Packers as the reason for last season's success. This is a perfect example of how so many players are outstanding performers then go somewhere else and disappear. Not to say they're not great players, they definitely are. But Emmitt behind the glory years o-lines in Dallas is a much different back than Emmitt behind the Cardinals line. A reverse example is Steve Young, who would have been Archie Manning II had he stayed in Tampa Bay. Archie was a fantastic quarterback, way ahead of his time, but was stuck in the NFL quicksand that was the Saints of the 70's and early 80's and unlike Young, he never escaped to a good team.

One good thing for New Orleans should 'Hurricane Brett' (Colin Cowherd's name for the Favre phenomenon) go to the Bucs: the entire sports universe will be focused on the Superdome for that opening game and if that and that boneheaded giveaway last season doesn't motivate the Saints to lay the wood to Tampa Bay, nothing will. What a test for New Orleans' rebuilt defense. Should be interesting.

Brett Favre is in no position after this circus to lead anyone to the SB. I think last year he was playing over his head, and it all comes crashing down this year. And no, I'm not being bitter because he's not gonna be a Viking. I didn't want him here for those same reasons.

You know, the more I think about it, the more I realize that the Bucs simply HAVE to land Favre at this point. Garcia is already not happy with his contract, and with the Bucs basically a lock for Favre at the time I went to bed last night, I feel the damage has already been done to Garcia. I mean if we don't get Favre Garcia will still be our QB and do well, but he'll be another player to split after the season on bad terms. I'm getting really tired of that more than anything.

It's being reported that the Jets have offered the Packers a 4th round pick in exchange for Favre.

I would imagine it's going to take a greater offer than that to beat out Tampa for Brett, like at least a 2nd or 3rd rounder.

ESPNews just said that Green bay wants a third rounder and Griese. I'd happily give them that and a hug for Favre.

Based on Favre's performance, the Jets' 4th rounder could turn into a 2nd rounder for the Pack.

If I'm Green Bay, I take the New York's offer. They don't need three backup-caliber quarterbacks fighting for Brett's old job.

Packers want Griese, possible second-round pick

August 6, 2008 7:30 PM

Posted by ESPN.com's Pat Yasinskas.

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fl. -- We're now starting to get an idea of what the Packers want in terms of compensation for Brett Favre.

ESPN's Sal Paolantonio is reporting the New York Jets have offered a fourth-round pick in 2009 that has the potential to turn into a second-round choice if certain performance standards are met by Favre and the team.

Paolantonio also reports the Packers have told Bucs General Manager Bruce Allen that Green Bay would accept a third-round pick in 2009 that could turn into a second-round pick along with reserve quarterback Brian Griese.

Including Griese as part of the package could be a key because the Packers want a veteran presence to go with Aaron Rodgers and Brian Brohm. Griese is expendable because Tampa Bay also has Jeff Garcia, Chris Simms, Luke McCown and Josh Johnson on the roster. Garcia and Simms also could be candidates for trades if the Bucs land Favre.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers, New York Jets, Brett Favre, Brian Griese, Green Bay Packers

I say go for it.

Yep, and what happened? He threw an interception...again.

This, along with your last post on the matter, suggest that all Favre does is throw interceptions. Sure, he has the NFL record, but he's been around 17 seasons. As I've said before, chalk that up to longevity; the former holder, George Blanda, played 7 more years than Favre but had 4751 fewer attempts -- HALF the pass attempts Favre had. His TD:INT ratio and INT/Attempt (%) are well under that of most QBs historically. He's 20th of 33 active QBs in INT%, but he ranks above Ben Roethlisberger, Eli Manning, and many others that I bet the Bucs wouldn't mind having.

And you say that we're over-estimating him, but I believe you're underestimating him. You only care about this because of how it affects the Saints, so you're already putting a negative and subjective spin on it, forgetting that he was SECOND IN MVP VOTING, FIRST in the NFC. That's like Chris Paul, Jimmy Rollins, or Matt Holliday being traded and people saying that it's the downfall of the team. I'm almost willing to bet that he'll pick it up in Tampa (assuming he goes there) without the Buccaneers missing a beat.

NFL Network Pat Kirwan says that he is in Orlando right now and he says his source in the Bucs say there is a sense of frustration in the Bucs front office and they believe that the Packers are playing "compensation games." He says the Packers have changed their mind several times today of what compensation they want from the Bucs.

It might be because the Jets apparently have posted a better offer. A conditional pick that could become a 1st round pick based on performance.

No, I'm basing it on having watched Favre play. He throws a LOT of stupid and/or critical interceptions, especially later in his career. He's been going downhill for a while now and last year was more of a fluke than a trend IMO. I will admit to being sick to death of this whole ridiculous soap opera.

Who knows, maybe you're right and he'll be great wherever he goes. Time will tell.
