The Nationals released Odalis Perez today after he didn't show up for camp.

Story

Good for them.

no returned phone calls, nothing. he signed the damn contract. good riddance.

anyways the day is wasted for Nats news considering the "Mayor" of NatsTown Jim Bowden is being investigated by the FBI for skimming bonus money from Dominican prospects. ridiculous. the guy needs to resign to save face for the organization, they cant handle anymore bad press. bad enough turned us into his own perverted version of the Cincinnati Reds, now hes under investigation by the freakin FBI. go figure.

it makes people feel like "we waited over 30 years for this??" these Nats are just as bad as the expansion Senators if not worse. at least we know the teams not going anywhere with all the money the city just blew on a new park.

And to think if it weren't for the strike in '94 this franchise may have been one of the shining stars of Major League Baseball.

if it werent for the strike of 94 the Expos wouldve never moved. i hate taking teams from cities, but DC without baseball is a sad thing. the city just produced its first major leaguer in over 30 years last year (Emmanuel Burriss).

im going to be patient with this team honestly, i know what its like to have a rebuilding franchise, the Caps have done that a couple times in their history. i'll still support them, but i really hope Bowden steps down over this, its not like the team was winning alot under him, then the investigation happened. Kasten needs to do the right thing and advise Bowden to step down or take a leave of absence till this thing is over with. the team is too young to handle such a distraction.

Distractions aside, it's not like they can do worse than last year, right?

(Although I have a feeling I may eat those words come October)

I'd rather spend my summer time volunteering than witnessing another Nats loss.

And yes, I currently volunteer in and around the DC area :)

When I get back to the States for good in June, I will have to spend a night in D.C. I would love to go check out a game at the new stadium, even if they are not doing so hot. I was going to go last time I was in D.C. But the cab ride was too far from Dulles and I wouldn't have made the start of the game.

Yeesh, and he's not much of a prospect either.

The BA Top 100 Prospect Rankings are out.

Top 10:

1. Matt Wieters, Orioles

2. David Price, Rays

3. Colby Rasmus, Cardinals

4. Tommy Hanson, Braves

5. Jason Heyward, Braves

6. Travis Snider, Blue Jays

7. Brett Anderson, A's

8. Cameron Maybin, Marlins

9. Mason Bumgarner, Giants

10. Neftali Feliz, Rangers

Overall, 4 Rangers prospects in the top 37 and 7 overall (with cases to be made for 3 more or so).

I can deal with that. :)

Nats have only ONE top prospect, Jordan Zimmermann, listed at number 41.

Good to see the O's represented:

1. Matt Wieters

22. Chris Tillman

25. Brian Matusz

67. Jake Arrieta

The future looks bright if all three of the pitchers develop as expected. It will be awesome to see Wieters this year. Markakis was alot of fun to watch when he was a rookie, I imagine Wieters will be about 10x better. I just hope the O's wait a couple weeks, so we can get an extra year out of him.
